we can actually calculate the binary for 11 (12 - 1), then flip 1 and 0, it's easier.

No, for positive numbers you don't need to. Try it yourself with few different positive numbers. (You can always verify with online calculators btw) I use another method than division, i just take the powers of two-> "etc.....128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1" and think about how to make the number i need to convert = sums of some of those numbers above so in case of +12, its 8 + 4 so if we put 1 under 4 and under 8 and 0 everywhere else we will get: etc.....128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1 etc..... 0 0 0 0 1 1 0 0 so -> 00001100 which is +12 in binary :D
