What if someone believes in a heresy their whole life not knowing it’s a heresy? What about people who struggle with things like porn but are trying to not do it, is it still mortal? Like addictions, a drug addict trying to stop, vs a drug addict not wanting to stop.
@q-petebassin25574 ай бұрын
@@Tocairosmost of the time addiction doesn’t count. Addiction involves near involuntary will of the mind which means the last 2 requirements of a mortal sin aren’t met. This is the same as some people who believe in heresy. So this applies to Protestants. A Protestant who grew up Protestant in a Protestant community and knows nothing other than Protestantism isn’t a heretic. A heretic or for heresy to be mortal is to know the truth, and willingly reject that and preach something deemed heretical instead. Catholics believe anyone, even atheists can be saved. God is merciful and will find any reason for us to be with him even if it’s the smallest reason there is. For example if you leave the church because you were abused, and join some Pentecostal church, God will not send you to hell over that. He is merciful. (Matthew 5:21) The point I'm trying to make is that viewing some sins as lesser or more okay is fundamentally wrong and a way that will ultimately lead you to commit the unforgivable sin. Jesus didn't say "ah bro you only gossiped or lied a little man, as long as you didn't murder you'll be fine". If you want a biblical example of not checking your sins and letting one sin lead to another then take a look at Genesis chapter 4. Another way to purge you of mortal sin is, perfect contrition. It's repentance, done with the whole heart of the person, and it is out of their selfless love for God, (Unlike imperfect contrition, which basically means it is out of fear of Hell) and a great urge to go to confession immediately. Basically, let's say somebody dies on their way to confession or they had repented and promise to go to confession asap, will they go to hell? Given the circumstance, no. God knows your heart and sees your contrition, and He is not bound by the sacraments (the same way with the circumstance of Saint Dismas, though not able to confess, get baptized, or partake in communion, is nonetheless saved by Christ) Of course, you still cannot receive the Eucharist until you get an absolution, and perfect contrition does not dispose you of going to confession and getting an absolution.
@garyworth60463 ай бұрын
Actually, just nit picking, Dismas is the first sacramental confession, to Jesus Himself no less. Dismas says to Jesus (and the other thief), about the punishment of crucifixion, "we are getting what we deserve." This was an admission of sin, and Dismas was saying he was sorry and asking Jesus for forgiveness. He got it, too. Now, he is St. Dismas.

As a Catholic, I fully trust in the Lord. I know that He is merciful and that His Love for me is endless. Learn to Love Him and it becomes harder to sin. And when you do sin, which for me unfortunately is still often enough, I sit in church and look at the crucifix and it reminds me of why our Lord gave His life for me, for us. If you commit grave sin such as voluntarily stop going to mass for a few years, or gossip heavily about someone and they found themselves in a difficult situation because of what you said, etc. , just know that He pointed out Sister Faustina, His mercy is endless. All you have to do is sincerely ask. And if you’re are concerned that you weren’t sincere enough, just the very fact that you’re concerned shows a level of contrition that is enough for our Lord.

Yes this is indeed a valid point but it’s not valid in the way to keep you safe. God will still hold you accountable to the same degree because you have the same written word in which it is taught. Your unmindfulness of the whole word isn’t an excuse but God in his righteousness will acknowledge it. The real question here is that, will you use this as an excuse to not walk closer to Christ? Is knowing this such a burden that you refuse to come closer to him? Imagine this as Jesus asking Peter to walk out from that boat onto the storming sea to come closer to him. Jesus will not abandon you. He won’t let you drown. He won’t let you sink. Keep yourself in the presence of God. God promises it’s going to be okay. It's a violation of the third commandment. It is grave in nature because you are essentially deliberately choosing to say no to God in worshipping and communing with Him. It is a special day only once a week, it is our Sabbath. But of course, there are circumstances we cannot control. Like when we are sick or taking care of someone that is sick, no churches nearby, there's a storm, or whatever it is that prevents us from going to the Mass. They raised money for charity and went on holidays together. They went to over 100 countries around the world. He paid his church dues by direct debit so he could concentrate more on the Mass. After he died it was revealed that he did voluntary work for the St Vincent de Paul. His divorce didn't stop him from being devotional, a good catholic. He chose that way for himself.

@albertoacosta83734 ай бұрын
Basically Yes: masturbation, fornication, adultery, use of contraception, incest, rape, having thougths of having sex with another person. All of these are mortal sins. A venial sin of lust would be, for example, consent looking at a girl in a not decent way, but almost all sins of lust are mortal.

But why does it say "do not pray for the sin unto death"? It sounds like it is not reversible. Like don't pray bc God will not change His mind. Either that or it's something someone has to repent from on their own. Change their own course. Before they can be helped through others' prayers.

Jesus has a whole teaching where he explains that he forbids divorce and that the ancient Jews before him were allowed only because of the “hardness of their heart.” He then goes on to say that if you divorce and remarry you commit adultery. If you divorce and commit sexual sin other than adultery, you’d still sin. Here is where Jesus talks about divorce: Matthew 19: 3-9 3Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?” 4“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ a 5and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’ b ? 6So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” 7“Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?” 8Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.” Therefore divorce is not just impossible, but a sin.

How many of those grave sins are actually outlined as such in the Bible.? Cause a few of those are regulated in the Word... but the teaching of your "saints" is the voice of God to y'all, even though we're all saints if covered by the passover blood

@derrick.a.martin4 ай бұрын
@@mikejay1385 But there's a clear difference between a mortal sin and a regular one, so I'd figure all the mortal ones would be outlined in the word, not loosely correlated... if you hold that as your traditional belief, you should be able to find the root in the Bible, like divorce... I was just reading Deuteronomy and there is specific verses regarding divorce, and it wasn't outright forbidding it, and the bible said God divorced israel for being unfaithful... and drinking and getting high, if it's harmful to the temple of God, then yes, but there's a few verses I can point to that suggest the wine in the Bible, wasn't always juice... the specific wording is clear on these certain issues, and to call those ones a mortal sin is, in my opinion, adding to scripture
@mikejay13854 ай бұрын
@derricka.martin6403 as for the divorce example, not all divorces are mortal sins within the rules of the church. The two ways a covenential marriage is/can be dissolved is through death and adultery. Referencing it as an example of a mortal sin in the video is referencing the common practice of divorce in today's culture which is "we are divorcing because we don't love eachother anymore, it's too hard, I need something different etc..." none of which are valid reasons, and so all gravely sinful because you are trying to tear apart a sacred Covenant without just cause.

@Justhumbleme "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, IT IS FINISHED: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost", we all have victory in Christ, the work is done, what can you do to assist the power of the lamb of God's blood.? Receive it, then if you don't listen to your church leaders you lose it, no.! victory is victory, we know we are saved, and the bible says we can know... all of this is still work based salvation, like "if you don't live up to the Jesus standard, by our churches standards, then you're not really saved." That's so beyond arrogant to suggest
