A perfect movie. Arthur : Which is the greatest quality of knighthood? Courage? Compassion? Loyalty? Humility? What do you say, Merlin? Merlin : Hmm? Ah. Ah. Ah, the greatest. Uh, well, they blend, like the metals we mix to make a good sword. Arthur : No poetry. Just a straight answer. Which is it? Merlin : All right, then. Truth. That's it. Yes. It must be truth above all. When a man lies, he murders some part of the world. You should know that.

I feel Excalibur (1981) is a bit of a forgotten gem of an epic sword and sorcery movie. It's my absolute favorite from Boorman. The shiny/shimmering metals in the movie are STUNNING on camera. Merlin's steely skullcap always looks very modern to me. It's such an intriguing piece. Honorable prop mention to Merlin's staff with it's phosphorus white light element, as well as the smooth sleek roundtable inside the halls of Camelot, and the actual Excalibur sword itself. Another stunning prop.

The best King Arthur movie ever made, by far. One of John Boorman's regrets with this movie is that he made the knights' teeth too sparkly white. In reality they would not have been so perfect (modern dentistry!). But I wholeheartedly forgive him!
