Hi Adam, this video was very helpful! I do have a question and here is my example: rows 9, 10, 11 have employee name, sick time, vacation time, with totals at the end of the rows. I want to be able to hide rows 10 and 11 without using the hide function. Is that possible? I have tried using the drop down, but that didn't work for me, so I thought I would see if filtering would work. Suggestions?
@ProfessorAdamMorgan5 жыл бұрын
Hi Terri, I'm glad this video was helpful. You could highlight the cells within the rows. From there, use the filter button to filter them out by color. Click the filter button, then click filter by color, then choose no color. This should hide any cells with that coloring. I hope this helps.

Excellent video Prof Adam. How can I make such a sheet? I want to use it for a business.
@ProfessorAdamMorgan4 жыл бұрын
Hi Idumijie, You would have to create a table and format the cells as necessary. Here is a link to my Excel playlist, it should have everything you need to get going with Excel tables: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpy2nHx9p86dhbs

How do you do the green bars corresponding to the numbers in column A
@ProfessorAdamMorgan4 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, You need to select the data first. Then go to the Home Tab, Styles Group. Click Conditional Formatting and go to Data Bars. Then choose the color you want. I made a video explaining conditional formatting, here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3aXdZeZiKpgacU

Is it possible to sort within a table. When you sort a range within a table (that is not formatted as an Excel Table), Excel asks if you would like to expand the range or continue with the selection. The same option is not given in Excel Tables (the range automatically expand to include the whole table.
@ProfessorAdamMorgan5 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, Sure, so when you expand the selection, take a look at the check box below the selection. It'll ask if you want to include headers. These headers are the first row of data within your table. If I go to sort a range (rather than a table), I'll usually expand the selection and include headers. Once I do that, I can sort from any columns within the selected range. I hope this helps you out.
@richardgreves61615 жыл бұрын
@@ProfessorAdamMorgan I'm sorry, I don't understand. When I choose a range within an Excel table and then open the sort dialog, the range is expanded to include the entire table automatically. Also, the checkbox (My data has headers is grayed out.

Hi Richard, Sorry, this is a little difficult to solve without seeing the actual data. Have you tried adding applying filters to the data and sorting it using the filters? If not, go to the data you'd like to sort and select it. Then go to the Home Tab and click the Sort and Filter button in the Editing group. You can then Sort A to Z or Z to A and even apply filters for custom sorting. I hope this works for you.

You've shown how to create an Excel file with (say) 5 columns and 30 rows, convert it to a table, and sort it. Let's say I then add 150 new rows to the file (from my documentation). How do I add those new rows to the table so I can sort the whole thing? ( Do I need to check back here periodically, or will I be notified if and when someone replies? )
