Neat Excel tip for adding extra lines to cells in Excel. This allows you to have paragraph style formatting for text within a cell whereby you can enter text on lines below other text within the same cell in Excel. This allows you to have better looking and better formatting spreadsheets in Excel. You can also use this technique to insert blank lines after or before text within a cell in Excel.
This method of entering text into cells allows you to avoid using the text box to enter large amounts of text in Excel.

@TeachExcel how about having let's say 3 lines. Two in normal style and one hyperlink to a google maps location? Can you have hyperlink in a cell and add some text without hyperlink? Specifically google maps link. So a box would contain: lunch at (hyperlink) then a movie all in one box but only the hyperlink line colored and underlined...

On Mac it's Option + Return. But, how do you get the horizontal lines closer together? See how much spacing is between the first line of text and the second line of text?

Hi. Thank you for this video. 😊 Do you know how I can separate text into individual rows and cells? I work on a Spreadsheet where my department has it set up with the multiple lines within one cell, but I need to count only certain data. Countif won't work, nor will filter in this format. What's worse is I am looking for specific names with certain criteria. Example, how names might be listed in the cells by column throughout the spreadsheet: N: George/Amy*/Adam N: George N: Adam*/George (Each one of these will be in their own cell with multiple lines of additional data.) I used the asterisk to represent a bolded name. Let's say I'm counting for George. I would only count him once because, although he is listed in a group of other names, I only count him if he is in bold or on a line by himself. Is there any way I can split the cell so all data moves to its own row? If I can make that happen, then I could sort. This spreadsheet is difficult because it's pretty big, especially with all the large cells that have multiple lines within one cell. I have no idea what else to do. I'd appreciate any guidance! Thank you!

For Macbook it is "control option ENT" you hold control and option at the same time then press enter. I have Office Mac 2011 and that's how i do it.

I have a followup question that I can't seem to get worded right, in order to find the answer. Now that I've done this step and I've created multiple lines in Column A. All of the other columns for Line 1 have multiple lines in them as well. How do I type on those lines in column b, c, d etc. Say I have 3 lines created in Column A Line 1, when I move over to column b and attempt to type, I cannot access the higher lines and if I use ctrl+enter, it adds a 4th or 5th line.

Since you can have up to 32,767 characters in an Excel cell, you could turn a spreadsheet into a compact, basic note-taking app. Just extend the formula bar and you have a large area to fill with text.
