I think the thing most people don't understand in the comments section is that wing chun isn't made for sparring or for these kinds of fights. They're made for when someone attacks you in real life. In this sparring you see these guys regularly pull themselves out of balance, out of their stance, and try to do things that aren't wing chun to bridge the gap between them. When you're attacked, the attacker has bridged that gap for you, and that's when wing chun fighters are really playing to their strengths.
@ricksterdrummer21703 жыл бұрын
That's what you're let to believe, but if you ''bridge the gap'' in real-life, people close the distance and move into clinching. That's just a fact.

No chi sao, no Wing Chun. If you don't like chi sao, go do boxing. Kudos to these guys, but they'd be taken apart by a boxer because they're using short range weapons (squared off straight punching) at boxing range.

Alright well looking at this comment section and looking at this fight I feel I have to say there is two camps in the comments and I disagree with them both. The first camp is people who practice wing chun in the non sparring context and are saying this is not wing chun because wing chun concept A isn't applied to correct situation B or whatever. You guys simply do not understand combat shock and the sheer randomness of non pre ordained movement, you actually think when people are moving around and being socked in the head that they will put the correct move on the centerline where it goes in the drills? God you are out of touch, this LOOKS like as much wing chun based movement as you can fit into a moving situation, your drills won't magically make what they are supposed to make happen when the other guy is moving and doing things outside of the drill's 'correct' reponse for that move. As for the other guys.... so yeah the mma comment section dorks (whom I utterly doubt have ever trained a martial art in their life, let alone mma itself) have their usual misconceptions arise from brute hearsay influencing their beer guzzled minds. Okay so first thing first when you watch UFC or even ONE championship you are seeing EXTREMELY high grade athletes competing over their CAREER itself, that is their livelihood, the sheer amount of training and conditioning those guys do every single day is something the average person just cannot do, high level kickboxers and mixed martial artists have sacrificed all other aspects of their lives to be at the level they are at so they can get paid, so all they do is train, if wing chun was a part of their methodology (of which in some it has) they will optimise it's strong points as a part of their curriculum, they just tend to focus on the pieces applicable of the four pillars (mauy thai, boxing, wrestling, bjj) because those arts have long lineages of competition and integration into mma, this is recently starting to change with people introducing practical parts of more exotic martial arts into mma. Now remember, the four pillars as individual arts alone get completely outdone by mma because they each specialise in a certain area and have severe weaknesses and blindspots outside of their combination into mma. Now to further the point if you go and find a local mauy thai or boxing tournament near you, you probably aren't gonna see the immensely crisp movements and display of immense skill you see in the big promotions, you probably won't even see a knockout, in fact you'd have just as much chance of seeing a knockout there as you would at a full strength point sparring competition put on by some karate or tkd lineage.

ultimately this is as good as it can get for wing chun, that is for now, what we need is for the best fighters in this league to start competing against other martial arts within a ruleset that favours wing chun's abilities as well as allowing the other art to show it's strengths, if some of the best fighters start seriously training their wing chun to combat other arts then we will see if over 75% of wing chun can overcome or be adapted to overcome other martial arts, for now this is a step in the right direction.

@johncasarino5627 You said it! Too many WC guys criticize other WC guys for their sparring not looking like a perfect drill, when they have never sparred themselves. They want to feel superior without actually deserving it. And they think they can beat combat athletes in a street fight lol, but most never even watch combat sports, and have never been in an actual fight. They know nothing of the enemy they think they can beat. The four pillars you speak of all have to be adapted for MMA because, as you said, outside of their respective rule sets, they have huge weaknesses. I believe that Wing Chun guys who spar and adapt their methods to MMA rules are going to be very hard to beat in the future. Unfortunately, most wc guys are handicapped by their intellectual pride and lack of athleticism and sparring.

They’re not even doing wing chun moves. Don’t get me wrong I know it’s not gonna look the same as how it looks when you’re training on the dummy or on another person but they aren’t even using wing chun methods. Their stance alone would get them downed in a real mma fight. Boxers can also take advantage seeing as we can be the aggressor while maintaining good posture and defense. This looks like two brothers fighting over nothing.
