An excellent tribute. Certainly does the Excelsior-class honor. Before the Enterprise-E launched, these had been my favorite ships in Star Trek. Indeed, it was seeing the USS Excelsior in Star Trek 3 that drew me into this Universe to begin with.

She is lovely, the most elegant ship that ever created. She looked strong but yet not harsh. I love this ship. I still remember her for Star Trek VI. Good work

The Excelsior class ships are some of my favorite in Star Trek. I think it would be cool to see an Excelsior with a cloaking device. Also, they have the Miranda class based on the Constitution-class ships and the Nebula class based on the Galaxy-class ships; it would be cool to see a similar small ship like that based on the Excelsior class.

It seems from the implications of their massive presence at the final battles of the Dominion War that the Excelsior design was so efficient that Starfleet stuck to the design and continued to build them even after the introduction of the Galaxy Class starships.It's not a stretch that a starship design could plausibly stay in service for very many decades. We see similar longevity in equipments in the real world. The B52 and the A10.

From what I've heard , the Excelsior Class lasted up to the early 25th century.

John Bockelie I heard the same romor. The real reason the excelsior was used so much was the same reason the old Klingon Battlecruiser was, budget. If the fx team(and art director) was swimming in money they'd probably have designed new ships. But the excelsior was a fan favorite so that worked out great. Thing is if the excelsior lasted so long, the constitution should have as much of a run as well. Even the Ambassador class and the Galaxy. They aren't like terrestrial ships collecting barnacles,deteriorating in the sun, rotting in seawater or going obsolete. Their hulls are just shells (they're also made with a super steel like nothing we have today) , what's inside can be changed, upgraded or swapped out. They aren't like aircrafts either. They're developing some really remarkable steel today. Who knows how strong they'll make it by the 23rd century.

I agree that the Excelcior class was a beautiful class. I also believe that it was like a big cruise ship. If ever in battle it would be slow and clumsy. Thats why by the time Enterprise C came around they were already going smaller. Enterprise D was the ticket. Galaxy class made it possible for a large ship to handle difficult situations.

To me, it looks like both an exploration vessel and a warship, just like the Constitution class and the Galaxy class.

Seems that many wondered why the Enterprise had bright red tail lights in front of its engines. Bright red Bussard Collectors were abandoned in the concept creation of the “refit” Enterprise which was influenced by the success of Star Wars. It's Probably because there were no Star Wars ships with bright red Bussard Collectors and that's why we didn't see them again for a while. The glowing spherical Bussard Collectors were brought back by Probert in the Galaxy Class design as an homage to the..

Love the Excelsior class, one of my favorite Starfleet ships of all time. Although, I did not like the Enterprise B look. Those modifications made the ship look ugly beyond belief. The design they used in Star Trek 3-6 and The Next Generation I really loved though.

A fitting replacement/suppliment to/for the venerable Constitution-class. I love the original design, though it would've been nice if when they appeared in ST:TNG, they were updated to look like they had been upgraded for the mid/late 24th century e.g. phaser strips and shiney blue engines (I realise they did this in ST:DS9)...they looked kinda dated in ST:DS9...HOWEVER...the design is wonderful and is still one of my favourites.

@jadetraveler the USS Centaur that appeared in an episode od DS9 is the type of ship you're describing.

@radioflyer68911 That's always been my belief also. And there's no canon information to suggest that they're not still being built.

@NightwishRaven999 So why doesn't the Excelsior class have a Buzard Collector? I think it would look better with the red glow in front of the nacelles.

by the way, for those who don't know, this is the refit version here, and the reason you see phaser banks instead of arrays is because of the design. this refit was purpose built to fight, phaser strips have proven vulnerable to wepons impacts in the past so the phaser bank design was kept to minimize the phaser emitter surface area and increase their power.
@TheBlackSpider8215 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was just on about the blue glow engines...ofc, there were no phaser strips on the DS9 Excelsior's...I agree that DS9 Excelsior's and I also think the Miranda's in that show looks low budget and weird....just to represent a 'Federation ship'.
