Excelsior - Restoring New York's Mountain Railway

This video share's our non-profit society's vision for restoring the Mount Beacon Incline Railway in New York's majestic Hudson Highlands.

Yes! Bring it back! I'm 52 years old and I"m still waiting for my turn to go up the incline rail like my family intended to back when I was little. Then, we went there one Sunday, there was a long line. Then my Dad just turned around. I don't remember now, if we even got out of the car. But he said that there was a malfunction and we couldn't go on it. And apparently, it was the last day that a rail car would go up or down that incline. It would be cool if my Dad, who is still around, me, and my two brothers could go up, and finish what we started. My mom had passed a few years ago, but she could have gone if she was around too, to make it complete. Nothing like the old days.

We need and want this wonderful railway!! I rode it up as a child to my family''s cabin on top. Today I am alot older and not able to hike up. I would love to be able to go back up. I have spoken to others who feel the same. It could be made into something special! It would bring people and money and if handled right all of us could benefit. Thank you!

This piece brought tears to my eyes! I have vivid memories of childhood summers spent at Mt Beacon- Mom would drive us up from Nyack in her 1965 Blue Bonneville. She would often dress my 2 Sisters & I , like triplets... the ride up in the crickety carts was scary! We would close our eyes tight and pray. But once at the top it was always Festive & Lively! I always remember there being a lot of Spanish people from the city w/a live band, bodies swaying, plenty of food & drinking, and the casino! There really wasn't much for us kids to do, but explore every crevasse of the Big Rock! Don't know what happened to all the family photos taken at Mt Beacon, but those "Oh, Summer Days, Sweet Summer Days!" memories are forever etched in my mind! Thank you, Ma-Freda! #SIP💓

please rebuild the powerhouse to it's original glory. I can say with certainty, especially to people like me, it would be an attraction all it's own.

The Incline Railway Association, if it even exists anymore, has had this nostalgia trip for some time now with no concern for the residents at the base of Mt. Beacon nor how several acres of woodland would be destroyed in order to install a parking lot for 200 cars. This whole plan is riddled with problems…who is going to pay for the people running the railroad cars? When it shuts down for the winter, which it always has, how will they be able to support it? This is not something that can be run year round, unless it’s a cable car which is not connected to the ground, like they have in mountainous regions of Europe. I suggested this to them years ago, but their heads are foggy with nostalgia; they have no common sense.
