Have you ever owned any ceramics featuring miniaturist artwork?

Lady, i have ten buyers right here in Japan who will buy it for 5000 pounds without even looking at it. And you can easily sell it for 10 000, so don't let anyone tell you this is worth 1800 pounds ! I have a miniature tea set by Yabu Meizan and it is worth 1,5 M dollars. If my house burns, i save my cats, dogs and this . Oh and my wife.

Perhaps 1,800 was a fairly accurate estimate when this was filmed in 2005. The appraisal you just watched was done almost 20 years ago.

I am so impressed by this expert !He has never appraised anything japanese in his life, he has no clue what he is talking about. I know when it was made exactly, by whom exactly in which part of Japan, using which techniques and which style and which pigments. I know what each pattern means, what the symbolic of each animal and abstract shapes is. I also know exactly what it is worth. And i know that if it came with its twin brother or sister which hopefully this lady can trace back, then it would be worth over half a million pounds with the right buyer, but without it, it is not even worth 10 000 because those came in pairs and are not worth much when apart. Which is probably why it was given to her father.

The real question is how this piece went from my country Japan to the UK and to this patient. Such a fine piece was not bought, because they weren't for sale in Japan, so chances are that it was stolen during the occupation after the war as so many other pieces starting to show up here and there today.

That’s not correct, a lot of Meiji period ceramics, bronzes etc were made especially for the western market. I am and have been a dealer in these things for years and a lot of these fine things went to both Europe and the USA.

To the winners go the spoils. Been that way for thousands of years. That’s how history works.

@@davidkennedy8929The fact that you a non Japanese assume you know more than me about what was for sale internationally and what was exclusively reserved for the domestic market in Japan, in the late 19th early 20th century, tells me all i need to know. I knew who made this piece before even seeing the seal at the bottom, and even this seal tells us that this piece was exclusively for the domestic market. If you knew anything about pieces by Kinkozan destined to foreign market then you'd know that the seal was not this one and it also had western writing on it. This seal is the original seal f Kinkozan VI not one of the workers of the Kinkozan families which made both domestic and international products. Kinkozan VII the son of Kinkozan VI, produced onpy 47 pieces for the international market, all of which are clearly known and immediately identifiable because they were order made as diplomatic presents to foreign dignitaries. Kinkozan VI NEVER made a single piece for the international trade. That piece is by Kinkozan VI, so it was never destin ed to end up, unless it was stolen. But her, i have been working for the UENO national museum for 33 years as appraisers and graduated from Geidai in fin e arts appreciation and restoration. But by all means give me your "I am and have been a dealer in these THINGS for years " experience. You know the funny thing. Not a single Japanese, not even an expert would dare lecture a French about Art Nouveau pieces or an Italian on renaissance pieces or a Chinese about Ming or Sung or Xing pieces, but let me guess, you are western and you have what 15 years experience in art trade, never specialized in specific Japanese art in particular and yet you come and assume you know better. Nobody who is an art expert refers to art pieces or masterpieces as "those things".
