There's only one adult cast member left, Shin Hamano who played the Japanese Candy Store Owner (Uncredited), In the scene when the hunt for Golden Tickets began and he had no dialogue. Also left are four Ooompa Loompas played by Rusty Goffe, Albert Wilkinson, Rudy Borgstaller and Pepi Poupee.

That very Pan Am airplane crashed. Also the other day I was mad at my laptop as if it was a human being and I thought of this...then tragically find out today this actor passed away from the damn covid. A long life though I hope blessed.

@@tami8458 The name on the side of the plane says “Clipper Climax” (Pan Am would often name their planes “Clipper ___”) Clipper Climax would later fly as Pan Am flight 812, a flight from Hong Kong to Los Angeles, on 22 April 1974, three years after this film was made. On approach to Denpasar airport in Indonesia, it crashed into mountains, killing everyone on board. The fact he wanted to walk his own mother home shows how much he cares about his family and how he us such a gentleman. The other kids would have just taken the stuff their parents gave them and go, but he stayed, A PURE HEART OF GOLD!

I’m not sure,, but I think that this scene was loosely inspired by something that happened in the book. A scientist called Professor Foulbody invented a machine with a mechanical arm that shot out and grabbed the nearest object with any trace of gold in it, but it backfired when the arm tried to grab the gold tooth of a nearby duchess, and the crowd watching ended up smashing the machine.

According to Julie Dawn Cole (Veruca Salt), this was one of the last scenes to be filmed. The crew was allegedly simultaneously packing up shop and were like ‘yeayeayea just do it we’re leaving’ The cast commentary for this film is fantastic for behind the scenes info
