The word thanksgiving came actually from the german word Erntedankfest wich is an very old tradition in the EU.
@loswochos91765 жыл бұрын
How old is this eu your talkin bout? Mean europe?
@patrese9935 жыл бұрын
Erntedankfest (thanks for the harvest celebration), which would be the closest thing to Thanksgiving, is on the first sunday after the 29th of September. But it's not common to celebrate it, only in very rural areas with lot of agriculture. The problem with the pasta: What is called Maccheroni in the US, is actually a variation of Gobbetti or Pipe, not Maccheroni, which are thinner and straight. Barilla.com has pictures of almost every variety.

All imperial units are defined by metric units - so you should be able to convert: 1 lb = 454 g 1 tablespoon = 15 ml 1 cup = 16 tablespoons = 240 ml If you have an electric scale, you might be able to switch from kg to lbs.

Cup - go to Google. Type "unit converter". In the drop down menu choose Volume. Set to US Legal Cup and convert to milliliter or liter - everybody understands that in Europe (if they don't understand milliliter, it is the same as cc or cubic centimeter). Milli is the diminutive of thousand - mille in Italian and French - so it means a one thousandth, or there are 1,000 units in the one that you get when you remove the milli. Or there are 1,000 milliliter in a liter. By the way, a US Legal Cup is 240 cc or about 1/4th liter. It is really surprising that you can find all these things there yourself, especially for cute young girls that may be used that everybody runs to their rescue for anything. ;)

All smiles, here! (Not laughing at all. Very important point!) I do know a thing or two about cooking. 1st thing: I think you did a great job in only have so may ideas and trying to make them real. That was a huge list! When I was your age, I tried to focus on one or 2 dishes that I thought I could manage. Hat's off to you! One misconception: you could not handle a whole turkey: Rule of thumb: the bigger your roast is, the less chance to fail. 'Cause it will take hours. Unless you don't watch it at all: you'll be in control. A "good steak" is much more complicated. And I will give you an example, down below. The Hokkaido pumpkin you can get here does not have to be skinned. You can use the skin, too. The way to use it for a soup: core it, slice it, cook it in broth, blizz it. Maybe use some carrots or leek the same way. (Clean the seeds, soak 'em in salt water overnight and roast 'em in the stove (at 180° C ?) About the "cups" in the US: I made myself an excel file: "The cup". It always drives me crazy! The problem is, that a "cup" describes a volume, instead of a weight. How much is "a cup of onion", roughly chopped, vs an onion puree? Still "a cup of onion". We don't have "kosher salt", here in Germany. "Kosher salt" has a flaky structure. Our (and your) table salt will have twice the weight of kosher salt in a cup. So tricky! I could go on and on. But I wanna encourage you to cook! So here are 2 examples: Chef John from NYC. He is an amazing chef! Great sense of humour, like only the best have: he even shows his mistakes, still. He's not shy to share it. He has proven to be a great chef. (And he makes a lot of european-based recipes, too.) (LMAO!) I just picked one. And it's Mac and Cheese. And he's again soo funny. And I bet it will taste great. I just trust him. (But that is only me!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJSXpWaYoKyYers Another one is a german chef. (And I saw that you do understand quite some german, already.) And he's showing some traditional german recipes. And does no wrong, from what I've ever seen: "CALLE kocht". He's cooking in Buxtehude, not that far from me. And I can't wait to go there and eat. I sent this to my gf in Australia and she loved: the meal. And his passion for it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ip6npoyOnKuiiKc Cabbage rolls are quite popular, here. Another example that I've already tried (fantastic!): Jenny Jones also cooks: my sister-in-law (from the US) remembered her from her childhood. (Maybe your parents do?) She never knew that this woman was into cooking: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5TOfJirfZ6db6M Welcome here! Wanna meet the "cold and unfriendly" ones? Come to meet us here, up north ;-)

A bit late comment - But about the deodorants you asked about in one of the first videos. A lot of the stuff (antiperspirant and germ killing ingrediences) there is in American deodorant are illegal for health's reasons in Europa, as they influence hormons levels and other things like making germes more resistans to treatment (triclosan). That's why the products are less efficient and difrent here. If you look up "Eurofunk" smell there is a lot of accounts of the "smell" diffrence from EU and American, and thats why there are more perfume in European products.
5 жыл бұрын
That is very interesting. I imagine you are talking about zinc, which is an additive in most American antiperspirants. Americans also bathe a lot, mostly everyday. I knew a stewardess who used to tell me that Europeans were the smelliest people in the World, but her perception was that it was because they did not bathe very often. But that was 20 years ago.
@ronni26645 жыл бұрын
@ zinc is not illigal here, but the amount you can put in the product is lower. And I think they mostly use aluminium instead. But no, it's the triclosan and other products like that, that act like a germ killer. It purely a synthetic thing that is added. You can compare it to Atamon you use to clean glasses if you have to pickle things. Really toxic stuff with the bonus that it get into you'r body through the skin contact and attached itself on receptors in you'r body and confuses it's hormonal balance. But I don't think there is any different in how much people bath. Here we bath every day + the high amount of sport makes a big group bath more then once a day (wich also can be bad)

Converting measurements is easy nowadays. Just write your conversion in google. For example 1 cup to dl. In cooking measures are rearly exact so you should be able to calculate those conversions in your head once you know the conversion factor. If you are not good at calculations, I'd like to courage you to practice approximation calculation, it will be useful in life.

IKEA has many measuring cups etc with both metric and imperial units, and electronic scales often come with an option to switch units. As for tablespoons and teaspoons, I think the difference was negligable. If you are using android, I would absolutely recommend the unit converter, it does all kinds of units most people will never even hear of. Probably also for iphone.
