At around 9:00 I hung an exchange. The line is only an idea on how to deviate from the main plans for black. If you are going to play that you have to play Qg6 or Re8 at some point first:) Sorry for the blunder!

In my opinion the exchange french is an amazing weapon for white. Most french players hate to face it and unless at a 2200+ level the chances for a draw are not that high as praised. If you play into a main line advanced for example the chance is high that blacks knows the plans much better than you do

Very nice video! :) I've been interested in the French for black recently and your videos are some of the best explaining videos I've seen! I will certainly recommend your channel to my friends! :) P.S. Against 4.c4 I like to play 4...Bb4+! Not only is it more active than on e7, but it gives a chance for white to make a positional error with 5.Bd2?! Bxd2 either Qx or Nx will leave white with a slight disadvantage - instead of 5.Bd2?! The main move is of course 5.Nc3 Nf6 and black proceeds with a good game :)

Your plan for Black to castle queenside after 4.Nf3 Nc6 5.Bb5 Bd6 6.0-0 Bd7 depends on White playing passively with 7.c3 Qf6 8.Be3. White can play 8.Re1+ instead followed by Bg5 with attack, or even 7.Re1+.
@herrschnupke40445 жыл бұрын
White plays 6.De2+! instead of 6.0-0 in the symetrical Variation. Then at 8:06 white plays 6.c4! instead of castling.

At 12:16, Re1 would free space for the king to run to f1 and allow it to flee to d1 where it would be safe. White is only slightly winning here though.

Interesting ideas, but the fact remains that if White absolutely can't take a draw, he can't play the Exchange French without that being the likely outcome. And, if Black absolutely can't take a draw against an opponent who likely would want one, Black can't play the French and recapture with the pawn on d5(If Black really wants to play with fire, he can re-capture with the Q entering unrecommended positions similar to the Rubenstein variation). If both players agree to play fighting chess (which is typical in Swiss tournaments when the opponents are close to equal rating), both players can be expected to avoid the Exchange French unless both are rated so low, they don't know what to expect.
@claytonbenignus4688 Жыл бұрын
I really hate the Exchange French because it maintains symmetry for so long. I hate it so much that I often play 2 . . . QxP, transposing to the Exchange Winawer. The problem is if White responds 3. c4.
Just notice at 12:51, what if white tries to do the move Bb5 - an attack on black's queen and rook? Is that compensated with good positional play for black?

Hi Stjepan, at 7:52 in position after Bb5-Bd6 what if white doesn`t castle? For example, he can continue the attack on Q side with c4-dxc4, d5-a6, Ba4-b5, dxNc6 -bxBa4. It looks like a very strange position and not very good for black. What do you think?
@19SpDj3 жыл бұрын
Interesting line. But black is able to atack the Bishop with de pawns before taking the c pawn. Don't you think?
@19SpDj3 жыл бұрын
Well, white also can, instead move his bishop, take the d pawn, counterattacking the knight. But, after the trades, it seems decent for black.
@TessaTestarossa5 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, if, in the Monte Carlo variation, black is waiting for me to move my bishop and waste a tempo, can I also play the waiting game, develop dark square bishop and queen and castle queen side? Or would there be something wrong with that?
@sauryasircar53265 жыл бұрын
Castling queen side is probably risky with an advanced d and c pawn, since you don't have the c pawn in front of your king.
