+jay 1 Outright wrong. KZbin does 192kbps AAC which is equal to about 256kbps MP3, pretty close to the nigh-lossless 320kbps. To the point where mere genetics have left my hearing unable to hear the difference, as only the 17-20k range is really touched and my hearing stops around 16.8. I can however say that Xkore's mix is outright missing all low-mids in the bass and kick. The track sounds extremely underpowered due to this. I am assuming this mixing decision was made because of the rather unique sub, which, instead of being a plain sine wave, mimicks the wide boominess of a cinema sub bass as you might hear with explosions and buildings collapsing in movies. Still, I don't think it was a good decision, the track is weak in everyting except for the sub as a result of it

It’s round about 128kbps as I’ve stated earlier." If that is the case, then why is a literally 100% direct download of the audio stream from KZbin 192kbps CBR AAC? Listen to a soundcloud 128kbps track and then to a version on KZbin and the difference is night and day. "320kbps isn’t “nigh-lossless” on a setup of 10k, in fact it’s easy to differentiate between 320kbps and any of the lossless formats on quite a few of the sub $1000 studio monitor pairs." By "Nigh-lossless" I don't mean the difference is not audible. Sure, you can hear the difference if you really want to, but since 320kbps MP3 only just so barely scrapes the top end, even the average music listener that does care about audio quality will not notice the difference unless he really really wants to. "And saying that your hearing stops around 16.8kHz means that there’s about 20% of the (general EDM) spectrum which you can’t analyze without tools, so you’re even less equipped to comment on the differences between lossless and lossy audio formats." Consider that 20hz - 20khz is not the average human hearing, it's above average hearing *at birth*. The average young adult only hears up to 17-18k, even without any hearing damage, this is completely normal. Mine is ever so slightly worse but that doesn't mean I cannot comment on the merits of audio codecs, because those can be measured and analyzed. In fact, studies have shown that 192kbps is the cutoff point where most people stop being able to discern audio quality any further. This doesn't mean there aren't people that can. "The track sounds under-powered\weak on your current setup with your current configuration. Sure there are methods to get a track to sound as powerful as it can but that would be a subjective opinion after a certain point." Now here is where it gets interesting. An audio setup relative to another audio setup can sound weak. but in this case, being extremely familiar with my setup, I can judge tracks by comparing them to other tracks. If you listen to a track on laptop speakers and say it's weak while you normally wear headphones that would be fucking dumb. If you use the same headphones 10 hours per day and are able to say that a track sounds weaker than other tracks on those, then it's a weaker track. If you switch to a pair of Beats (yuck) sure the track will sound stronger (compromising everything else in the process because beats), but so will the others, and the other tracks will still sound stronger. It's not at all about objective audio setups, unless you use a shitty gaming headset that doesn't know how to properly reproduce sub frequencies without artifacts or can't properly reach into the highs. As long as it covers 20-20k and is decently flat you can properly cross-reference tracks. I personally use a pair of ATH-M40X, little bit on the cheap side but perfectly covers the spectrum and has been tested to be idiotically true to source and basically the most value for money you can get headphones-wise. And before you go tell me that I am not worthy of discussing this because I have no studio monitors, once again, it's all about relativity, familiarity with your audio devices trumps everything else when it comes to analysis. Also, you brought up audio codecs as being a reason you cannot judge a track well on KZbin, but in this case you can, even if it were 128kbps MP3 ala soundcloud you certainly can, because the high end is fucking fine. Only the 100-400hz range of the track is a real problem, and no actual listenable codec is going to touch that at all. My point was never that he didn't intend this. He did, that's obvious. Problem is it's a kinda foolish intention that ends up pushing the track further back compared to others. I also get a very very strong feeling that xKore mixed the track at a volume level far too high, as at higher volume levels, a more boomy sub feels better and cutting the low-mid range often feels good. This means the track may sound good on large systems at a high volume, but it doesn't translate well to other systems and lower volumes, and a mix that does not translate well, is a bad mix. I still like the track and listen to it a lot, those brutal comb basses are amazing. It just makes me sad to see such a good track have such bad mixing.
