SO MANY MEMORIES! I was 9, going on 10 at the time. I gifted this for a friend for her 8th birthday. I played it at her house before I even got my own Nintendo. By the time my 10th birthday came, she and another friend gifted this game to my for my 10th birthday! What I also enjoyed about this game is that it even let you design some courses.

What do you think Excitebike brought to the table? I can't really recall a game that was inspired by it. There was a temperature mechanic in the 1980 Atari 2600 game Dragster, and early 80's Motocross for the Intellivision was a motocross game with slopes. You could also design your own tracks. If you want to go older then there were many racing video games made in the 1970's, in fact they are some of the oldest video games you can find. Unless you say that because you really like it, which is fair.
@LPetal863 жыл бұрын
@@videotape2959 No, my point about _Excitebike_ is that we wouldn't have the entire _Excite_ series of games. I was also just thinking about how Nintendo (and Sega, for that matter) took elements of previous games on prior systems that already existed, polished them up, and put them into one package. You no longer needed to go to the arcade to have a game with bright graphics and music and sound, which is cool in my book. The Atari 2600 was the first console I ever had. Imagine going from that, with a single button and joystick with no music and a very limited color palette, all the way to the Sega Genesis with _Sonic the Hedgehog_! I saw but never actually played _Excitebike_ until its re-release on the 3DS. :)

I was thinking about this earlier and thought I'd look it up and OMG as soon as the intro theme started it was like I traveled back to the 80's again. I never realized how old this already was by the time I got it. I was born in 83 but these games were still wildly popular by the time I was 6 or 7. I loved this and paperboy and Contra, Guerilla warfare ( I remember renting it from a local pharmacy and wondering why there were no Gorillas in it lol ) , Godzilla KOTM was another fave. Tiger Heli.... I could go on and on. I miss childhood lol. Funny thing is Im not into playing retro games but still play on my Series X. It's like my mind says " been there did that." I do love them getting rediscovered by the younger gen though.

Firs the arcade game, Vs. Excitebike, then this game, Excitebike, for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). I don't have this for the NES yet, but the side-scrolling engine for Excitebike was later used to develop Super Mario Bros. (1985), which had the effect for Mario or Luigi smoothly accelerating from a walk or run, rather than to move at constant speed like an earlier platformers. The same engine that developed Excitebike went to develop a 1985 NES port of side-scrolling beat 'em up platform arcade game Kung-Fu Master (1984) called Kung Fu. The concept of a platformer in which the player can "strategize while scrolling sideways" over long distances, and has colorful backgrounds rather than black. The game came late in 1985, but I discovered this game in 1989. This game is a staple in any NES collection.
