Hi Rhonda, I have made about 18 wine/martini glass blooms . When I applied my first coat of resin, the resin reacted to the minwax and is leaving an uneven smooth surface. Yikes! Is that normal and will a second/third coat of resin fix it?

Nice job on this video! The paint pen is a great idea. I went back to dipping because I couldn’t tolerate those white edges. It never occurred to me to paint them…DUH…. I put a small amount of resin into the divots and let it dry before dipping. The bloom transferred beautifully then.

I love how beautiful this project turned out... may I suggest a solution for the "white showing on the sides of the skins" ? After you glue the two skins together and they are dry, PAINT the sides with a paint pen that match the edges. Then glue the skin to the glass. I hope that helps with the glasses you don't want to paint the edges. ❤

What a brilliant tutorial Rhonda… thanks so much for taking the time to show us each step in detail. I enjoyed every minute of it and certainly didn’t fast forward, even a second!! I learned so much and can’t wait to try it out myself! And, although it is a time consuming process, the idea (for me anyway) is to relax and enjoy every step. I do have a question tho, if you don’t mind… does it not scratch the glass when you’re removing the resin from the rim of the glass? And do you think it would work by using some wet (very fine grit) sandpaper, and this would also be safer than using the exacto knife? Thanks again for such an informative and fun to watch video!! You have yourself a new subscriber!! ♥️♥️🇦🇺

Thank you. You are so very kind. It makes me feel so good. So thanks!!! It does not scratch the glass. I’m guessing sand paper could defiantly work. Try it and let me know how it works. Yea. Very nice. FYI if you use an actual exacto knife which is made for crafting it would glide and cut a lot easier and wouldn't slip. The blade on the utility knife that you are using is at a different angle than an actual exacto knife that is why it slips. Its made for deep cutting. Cutting through a box (not opening the taped seams but a plunge cut into the cardboard) or cutting through carpet. An exacto knife is at an angle to slice using the tip or edge like a razor blade. The glasses are very nice. Great work. Thank you for the tutorial.

I very much enjoyed learning something new. I'm familiar with resin art, but, not so much the paint skins. What size are the tiles you used in this project? ... 9"x9"? ... 12"x12"? Do you purchase sample paints from Sherwin Williams? What was the brush you used? Again thank you for the lesson. I'm finding it much more interesting to try & combine various art forms.

My cousin makes these too. She also uses the extra to make the little magnets too. Her skins aren't white on the bottom tho they are the same color when you peel them up so she doesn't have to put two pieces back to back like that. Why are yours white on the bottom. When you pour paint like that wouldn't it just be the same colors when you flip it over? They are very nice. Thanks for sharing.
@RhondasTriRRRtistry
@RhondasTriRRRtistry 2 жыл бұрын
It’s because I create these from a bloom technique and that has a pillow paint which I use white. So that’s why the bottom is white. Thanks for the idea about the knife as well.

@RhondasTriRRRtistry
@RhondasTriRRRtistry 2 жыл бұрын
You can use mod podge and I was able to peel off the tile after 24 hours and sometimes a bit longer. For sure 48 hours. Then I let the skins set for about a week or so. Not intentionally but just because that was when I had time to glue to the glasses that weekend. So I think you can put them on just a few days after. My educated guess. 😁😜. Thanks so much!!!!

I just came across your video and these are beautiful! I've had the thought of doing something similar but wasn't sure the best way to go about it. Thank you so much for the details video. I was wondering if you could get one of those craft hole punchers, that people use for scrapbooking, to cut out the circles. I'm not a wine drinker so I'm not sure if the bottom of the wine glasses are usually a certain size. Another suggestion, but I think it would take a little longer than the tape, would be to use liquid latex (the stuff they use for making different halloween makeup stuff. Paint that on the top part of the glass where you currently put the tap. Let it dry and then do the resin. Once the resin is dry, just peel off any overage that's on the dried liquid latex. I do this for when I need to dome my resin christmas ornaments. A little of the liquid latex goes a long way! Thanks again for sharing! Absolutely gorgeous!

@RhondasTriRRRtistry
@RhondasTriRRRtistry Жыл бұрын
Sorry if I confused you…this is how I have been doing resin for four years, but I don’t use it except for my glasses and a few other items…so really not that often. If you are confused, I would recommend to reading the resin directions on your bottles. On mine it say one part of each…I am not an expert on resin…but this way has never failed me…HOWEVER when I read the directions maybe my perspective was thinking it was weight when in reality It could mean volume and I have never taken that into consideration. So thanks for brining that up for me. I will look into it. I appreciate the information and will really look at that next time I use resin. Have a great day.

Thanks!!! I have tested many product and have not found one that works. I recommend hand washing in hot soapy water. Super easy, sanitized and the bottoms still look amazing.

It is the base paint that helps me to pealing off easily. But when the paint can’t come off I soak the tile in warm-hot water for a few minutes and this it peels off better. 😜

Shouldn't use resin in that cold of an environment ..also thinking UV Resin on the bottom would be less time consuming and instantaneous hardening.

Thanks for the feedback. This was a year ago and it worked out great. The temp in the garage was well with in the directions of the product and I didn’t let it sit out in the garage. It was just funny to show all the gear. I’ve never heard of UV Resin. I’ll look into it however I would want to test the instantaneous hardening. Not sure that would be good or bad when I’m working with a number of pieces! But doesn’t hurt to try. Thanks again for the input and idea! 😃

I was told by ArtResin that you just measure by volume not weight
@RhondasTriRRRtistry

@@RhondasTriRRRtistry Yeah, totally get the one-to-one ratio and that is how I did it as well, but they were really specific that the 2 parts have different weights, so that's why you must use their product by Volume not weight.

Yep that is correct. They can be washed in hot soapy water like with any other delicates…china. But it isn’t dishwasher safe due to the extreme heat.
