Dear RomeWise, I have a question: for three days I've been trying to get tickets at that website (for the underground) and I sit from 7am until 9am reloading every few minutes, sometimes every few seconds waiting for tickets to be released. Tickets seem to be released sometime between 8:30 and 9am 30 days in advance. But for the past three days they go from "not available online" to "sold out" in a matter of seconds (or even less). How is this possible? How do people get these tickets? I'm pretty internet savvy and I have bought difficult tickets before (for other things) by doing research first and being online when tickets are released, but this doesn't seem normal. Are these tickets pre-sold somewhere else and I'm just being naive waiting online early every day? Any insight would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Yes, the Attico is truly a crowd-free experience. This is in part due to the size of the elevator. SO they don't sell that many tickets, which is why it can be a hard-to-get ticket. But it's definitely worth it! Glad you had such a great experience!

Are you referring to the Arena 24h ticket? Or to the standard 24 hour ticket? At the Stern entrance, they only accept the Arena 24h ticket. And if they didn't accept it today, it's possible there was a temporary reason for it, or it's possible they are making some changes.

Great video! I did, however, have to learn to navigate the new site on my own because I was trying to get tickets for our visit in mid-June. From my experience, ALL the full experience tickets were difficult to get - even the arena ones. So, I settled for the 24hr Arena only tickets because they were easier to get. I think it should be fine considering our girls (14 years and 9 years) will be traveling with us this time. But I'm glad to see info coming out to help navigate the new ticketing site. It's a lot to learn on your own. Thanks for all you do!

Thank you so much! I'm glad you were able to figure out the new site and get tickets to the Arena 24h entrance. The great thing about this is you WILL see the Colosseum AND you get to visit the SUPER sites on the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill. On the other hand, if you have girls that age, they may not want to spend as much time visiting the Forum / Palatine, but I hope you still will spend time there. In my opinion, it's the best part of the Colosseum ticket!

Tks for the excellent video, Elyssa! I’m going to Rome with my wife in August and your channel has helped us get things done for it ❤ One question about the ticket types, for first timers in Rome which do you recommend the most: Full Experience or Full Experience Attic? Thanks for sharing you Roman knowledge, we’re loving your videos!
@Romewise4 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and for your kind comments. In answer to your question, there are 3 types of Full Experience tickets: 1 - Attico 2 - Arena Floor 3 - Underground + Arena Floor There is no way to get one ticket that includes all 3. The underground and attico are the two with the least availability and highest demand so they are the hardest to come by. If you do book the attico, when you come down, you can head to the internal ticket booths inside the Colosseum and ask if there is space to visit the arena floor. They will usually allow this, giving you a green sticker at no additional cost. This green sticker will get you onto the arena. All the visits are great, so it may come down to what you can easily book.

We've planned so much of our time in the cities of Italy based on your videos Elyssa ... they are just so helpful. We only have two full days in Rome in mid-August and want to make sure we see the Colosseum properly but don't seem to be able to book tickets from the offical site very much in advance. Beginning to wonder if purchasing through one of the ticketing companies like Viator or Get Your Guide isn't a good option for us?
@Romewise4 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I'm glad you find my videos so helpful! Colosseum tickets are released maximum 30 days in advance (and for some tickets, only 7 days in advance). Yes you can get tickets through a third party like GetYourGuide or Viator, and I have links in the description for those. You should very easily find tickets for a standard Colosseum ticket. The issue is that many people want the underground or attico, and there isn't enough supply to go around. So if those are the tickets you are looking for and you get them through a third party, there is a small chance those third-party tickets could be cancelled if the tour operator cannot get the tickets once they are released.

@Romewise6 ай бұрын
I'm HOPING the line does not become super long. It's a bit inconvenient especially if someone wants to purchase a ticket to the Colosseum there. If you buy the ticket at that entrance with the intention of visiting the Colosseum first, you'll have a bit of a trek back to the entrance to the Colosseum. OTOH if you are fine with entering the Roman Forum first, you'll have to 1) book a later time to the Colosseum for that day and 2) make sure you give yourself enough time to visit the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill on this ticket because there is no re-entry.

Hmmm, while it's not up to me, I am not sure this will work. How old are your kids? Typically, they say any children under 18 (those eligible for free tickets) but be accompanied by an adult. You should ask when you arrive, to be sure you don't encounter any problems.

Love your video and advice. Very helpful. On another note...Unfortunately, the Colosseum website only shows booking options for the current month we're in and the month following which shows all dates either sold out, blocked/not open to book/unavailable. This is a big problem that forces most to book with 3rd party sites thereby paying inflated prices/fees and only receiving (9 out of 10x) a non-refundable reservation which at the time of purchase is not a real ticket in the first place! It's such a racket. I also do not see the Attic tour on other sites. Is my only option to just wait, check back on the main Colosseum site, and hope I find an opening on the exact day we need tickets? Sounds hopeless to me. :(
@Romewise3 ай бұрын
Yes, this is just the way it is - ticket supply is limited for the attic, underground and night tours, but that's where demand is highest. I don't know of any way to get the attico tickets except through the Colosseum site. Your best bet if you want one of these tickets is to keep checking the site.

@@Romewise thx for your response. I'll check into it. Separate question, are "add-on/areas" such as the attic" possible to purchase along with a ticket you already hold (if available) at the site box office the day of your Colosseum visit? TIA

@@eagleeye3512 Happy to help. No, adding a "full experience" part of the Colosseum to a standard entry ticket is impossible. You CAN, however, add on (for 4€) the SUPER sites in the Roman Forum/Palatine Hill, which are otherwise inaccessible with the standard entry ticket.

Thanks for watching. Unfortunately, due to huge demand and very limited availability for the underground and the attico tickets, the website often experiences glitches like this. If we need to give it in printed form, is there a booth that will print the ticket for us when we go to the colosseum without waiting in the other ordinary ticket line? And for those under the age of 18, tickets cannot be purchased on the website, so can the person under the age of 18 enter with his/her family without waiting in the other ordinary ticket lines or do they have to wait and buy a ticket? In 1 week I am planning a trip with my family and since we want to visit many places, we do not want to wait in line, thank you for your attention.
@Romewise5 ай бұрын
As I mentioned, you do not need to print your ticket. The pdf on your phone will suffice. If you have kids under 18, and are visiting the Colosseum with a standard entry ticket, you can't book for them on the website. You just book for yourselves and then get their tickets onsite. If you are with kids under 18 and are booking any Full Experience ticket, you MUST book the free tickets for them and provide their names. Either way, you can collect their tickets inside. I show you how here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnnKq6VvjtCke6s

Hi ma’am, awesome and super helpful video. I’m trying to obtain Full Experience Arena floor tickets for Sep 27th however those are not available yet for some reason. Do you know if those only open 7 days in advance vs 30 days? Also, do you know if we are able to buy the arena floor ticket inside the colosseum like you stated for the attic visit if we have the regular colosseum visit ticket? Thank you!

Thank you for the info! Last time we were in Rome (2014) we did not get tickets and they were not letting anyone else into the Colosseum. Also, the Trevi Fountain was under construction and we only got to see that with the water turned off. We plan to go again in 2025, hopefully we will see the things we missed the first time. 😊

Thank you for the video. Very informative. Have a question. What is the Parco Membership?
@Romewise3 ай бұрын
Thank you! The Parco Membership is available to anyone. It's a card that gives you one year of nearly unlimited access to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill and all the SUPER sites. It's 50€ for an individual or 80€ for a family. For the Roman Forum / Palatine hill, you don't need to book in advance but you do for the Colosseum. But it's easy and you can always get a ticket for standard entry. The membership does not give you free entry or allow for easier access to the difficult to get tickets like the underground or attico, but you do get discounts. Here is the official site with more details: ticketing.colosseo.it/en/eventi/parco-membership/

Great video. Is Rome as busy in late August as it is in the middle of the summer?
@Romewise5 ай бұрын
Lately, Rome has been busy pretty much year-round except for a few weeks in January after the Christmas holidays end on January 6. Late August can be a bit quieter than the height of summer and it's certainly a bit less crowded than the peak seasons of September and October, but I wouldn't count on it not being busy at all.
@velocci66665 ай бұрын
@Romewise thanks for the reply. I just saw a video of the outside of the Pantheon in March and there were a lot of people. How does late August compare to March?
@Romewise5 ай бұрын
@@velocci6666 Lately Rome is just crowded from around mid-February through late October. It's hard to say if late August is more or less crowded than March. There will be crowds during both seasons, and the Pantheon is one of Rome's biggest attractions so you can expect crowds there throughout the year.

Thanks, I'm glad you find it helpful. The attico is one of the most popular tickets and it's in extremely high demand with low supply so it's not possible for everyone who wants to visit it to get tickets. The only way to book through a third party is to book a private tour and have the tour company get the tickets for you, but this is quite expensive and still there is no guarantee they can get these tickets. The best thing to do is to keep trying.

Can you please explain the difference Guided tours are available here and Tourist guide dedicated slots are available here under Full Experience option. Thnx.
@Romewise3 ай бұрын
I am not sure I understand your question. If you are asking about the difference between the tours I suggest in my description vs. the tours you can find directly on the Colosseum website, the answer is this: On the Colosseum website, you can book a tour JUST of the Colosseum and it does not include the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Tours offered by third parties typically include a more complete tour that includes the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and palatine Hill, and perhaps even more like the Imperial Forums, the Mamertine Prison, etc.

Great video! If you get the FULL EXPERIENCE TICKET WITH ENTRY TO THE ARENA OF THE COLOSSEUM (includes SUPER) can you visit palatine hill and Roman forum before your entry to Colosseum, as long as it’s within 24hrs of your timed entry. There is a 6pm Colosseum slot and was thinking could do SUPER spots before earlier in the day and then Colloseum at 6pm…?
@Romewise5 ай бұрын
Yes, as I mentioned, your one-time entry to the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill is good for up to 24 hours on EITHER side of your Colosseum entry time. So yes, you can visit the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill earlier in the day before your 6pm Colosseum visit. Just remember, that entrance to the park is one-time and there is no re-entry with the same ticket. So if you intend to get the most out of the park and include the SUPER sites, I recommend you make a plan for what you want to see and get into the park as early as possible to allow yourself to cover a lot of ground.

Love your videos! Quick question: I know you’re working on a video for Colosseum tickets for kids, but my visit is 30 days from tomorrow and I want to be ready to buy my timed entry. I have 3 teenagers under 18 traveling with me. Do I just buy my own ticket online, and then show up to pick up their tickets on the assigned day and time, or is there a way I should reserve my one ticket, plus 3 kids? I’ve tried practicing to see if there is a place where I can enter the kids’ info, but I’m afraid I’ll accidentally buy tickets for the wrong day. And if I wait until 30 days out, I’m afraid I won’t be quick enough to secure tickets. Any advice?
@Romewise5 ай бұрын
If you purchase standard entry tickets, then you just get the tickets for the adults. Then, when you arrive at the Colosseum, go inside with your tickets (and your kids), and go to the internal ticket counter and collect your free kids' tickets there. If you purchase any Full Experience tickets, then choose the Free Ticket option for your kids (along with your tickets), and you'll see a bunch of options. The free kid's option is the last une "under 18", so click there. You'll need to enter everyone's names for these tickets, including your kids'.

So the night tours go on sale 7 days in advance at midnight Italy time and are now 50 euros a person ? Is that correct ? I’ve heard 30 days but looking at the website that’s not the case. And are they only on certain days? Just found your channel plan on watching more videos! Thanks for the great information . 😊
@Romewise4 ай бұрын
Yes, since I made this video, they added night tours. At this time, they are only offering them once a week (Thursdays.) I hope they will add more dates/times. And yes, I was surprised but also happy to see they'd raised the price to 50€. This is such a special visit and it includes a lot. It also finally includes access to the Roman Forum /Palatine Hill, which was not the case previously. For the night tours and the Full Experience Arena tours, it seems that they are only offering these up to one week in advance, while all other Colosseum tickets and tours are offered up to 30 days in advance. Again, I hope this will change. Their site and ticketing system is still relatively new and I think it will keep evolving. I suggest to keep checking back if you don't find what you want!

Great video, saw your video on the night tour of the Colosseum last year, you mentioned your tix were from Coopculture. With Coopculture no longer doing tickets. Is there any 3rd party that still provides night tours of the Colosseum that you would reccomend?
@Romewise6 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot! Yes, I made the night video when CoopCulture was still the vendor. Right now, the Colosseum is not offering night tours but when they do, you can purchase tickets on their site. And once they start offering the night visits, third-party vendors will start re-selling them, too. You can still use the links in my night tour video to book these night tours, but don't book anything until the Colosseum officially starts selling them again.

The official ticketing website says that it is temporarily unavailable. The whole ticketing system is a mess.

Yes they have been experiencing heavy traffic demand and sometimes the site can be tricky but overall it's doing a much better job and is less confusing than the older system used by CoopCulture.

Hello thank you for this video! Do you get to skip the line if you choose the guided tour?
@Romewise4 ай бұрын
Skip-the-line refers to skipping the line to purchase same-day tickets. No matter how you visit the Colosseum, there will be others that have the same timeframe as you, and everyone must go through security. But these lines are not usually very long and with a pre-purchased ticket or tour, you can be inside in less than 10 minutes.

LOVE your videos! So helpful. I do have one question. Is there a ticket option for a guided tour of the Colosseum PLUS a guided tour of the underground? Or would you need to buy separate tickets for this? Thank you!
@Romewise5 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! If you are asking about getting a guided tour of these sites via the Colosseum website, then the answer is KIND of no. However, if you book a tour of the underground through the Colosseum, they do include the history of the Colosseum so that they can better explain the underground portion. What's missing from these Colosseum tours is a tour of the Roman Forum. So, if you want a more complete tour, whether of the monument itself, or of the whole park, including the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill, you'll need to book through an outside tour company. I have links to some of these in my description.

Thank you so much for your kind words and for subscribing! I'm very grateful! Tickets to the Colosseum go on sale 30 days in advance. They don't necessarily go on sale on the specific hour of the visit, and tickets are not all released at once for a given time slot, so if you don't see the tickets you want, keep checking back. It's VERY easy to get standard entry Colosseum tickets so you should have no problem with those. The FULL Experience tickets are harder to come by so if that's what you want, you'll need a bit of patience, time, and luck. Have a great visit!

Great video-tons of info.. Understanding what you said about tour companies, does that mean there are no longer skip the line tours?? We want to see the underground, main floor and tier 2, is that a possible skip the line tour?? If so, is there a company you could recommend?
@Romewise5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! All tickets you purchase in advance allow you to skip the line - the line to buy tickets. Because tour companies get your tickets for you, all tours are skip-the-line. You may encounter a short line of others with your time slot going in at the same time. Then, everyone must go through security. But all of this usually takes 5, max 10 minutes. In the description of this video, and in the pinned comment, you'll find links to the tours I recommend. But if you can't find availability with them, there are a lot of providers who offer these tours, and they mostly all do a good job. The issue is being able to secure your underground tickets.
