What an amazing analogy: "We have cars, but no one's going to cancel running competitions. We have Usain Bolt, but no one is going to have him competing against a Mercedes Benz".

Garry's masterclass is great for beginners and intermediate players. The finesse and pace of the videos together with Garry esposing on some overarching principles really made it a master class

I love Kasparov as much as the next chess nut.... but that was a 21 minute commercial. Buying his instruction videos so I can "feel his enthusiasm and love of the game" doesn't sound like a smart investment.

Some say that machine learning has killed chess. As Kasparov said, some believe it removed the magic from chess. I think it is caused by the fact that these people perceived themselves/chess players to be the creators of those beautiful games and combinations. And with the arrival of machine learning and its relative domination of chess, it feels like humans have to comfort themselves with the role of being an observer, helpless and unable to compete in the race of creation ("I created this game first"). I believe, we can change this paradigm; to see ourselves and the machines not as creators, but rather, as explorers of chess beauty. To use machines/engines to help us discover beautiful games of chess - with eyes of a wanderer, and set aside the arrogant idea of being the creator of that beauty. It always existed whether we were there or not.

No it's because machines change the game. A couple of years ago we had stockfish and stockfish played the best moves. Stockfish was happy to focus on the kingside and attack it was about 3400 rated and that was how chess players were also happy to play. Then alpha zero came along and showed us that queenside development was as important and post alpha zero games between humans have completely different rhythms where someone like Carlsen will dominate the kingside then retreat and go for the queenside. Machines do change the game and their objective analysis such as the revelation that the ruy lopez is the best opening and the berlin defence is the best response, although I don't expect humans will understand why until alpha zero sheds some more light on it.

Unsubbed, you want to label videos "interviews" when really it's just a commercial, you can waste someone else's time.
