ROL could be Rear Outdoor Lavatory! I really want a small overland unit like this, ready for off grid, super easy to pack/go/manuever and park anywhere. 4 people(2 adults/2 kids of perfect for the couch plus the overhead tent...not too mention a third bed option with the tent on the bed of my Rivian EV pickup (which also acts as a mobile shorepower station). BUT...with 4 people we need an indoor bathroom(especially camping year round here in CA). I'm thinking I could insert a small shower floor basin(drill small drain hole/hose through floor) for a shower, and connect outdoor shower to bring that inside. And then have a mobile toilet inside shower basin that can be emptied in any regular bathroom stop. This would also leave half of the rear storage for a small kitchen(the cooler plus maybe a shelf for a dry box storage for electric stovetop and the griddle.

Great news. I saw the article in RV Times saying that Ashley Bontrager, and a handful of other industry pros who were joining her, were about to launch something that really changes the game. Not sure if that was specific to price, features, durability/construction methods, etc. but I think we can all agree that the industry needs a shake up/wake up. I'm wishing Ember RV the best in doing just that.

For a very long time, I’ve been in the market for just the type of trailer(s) Ember is designing. I’ve had a tent trailer for the better part of thirty years because it’s roomy and I’m able to drag it just about anywhere off-road, but I’ve always wanted a truly off-road/off-grid hard-sided travel trailer...so pardon my rather lengthy post. Since you said that Ember is still fine-tuning their models and looking for consumer feedback, I wanted to put together some specific thoughts based on my camping experience and your video showing the current versions of the prototypes. Some of the things I LOVE about the Overland prototypes are: - The innovative, heavy-duty frame(s) and suspension - The integrated wheel chocks and manual independent stabilizer jacks - Versa coupler and articulating hitch - Rear receiver hitch and spare tire mounted high on the rear wall (so that it doesn’t interfere with a cargo rack or other accessory attached to the rear receiver hitch) - European-style dual pane windows (and that they open more than a few inches) - Size of the windows in both the main living area and the slide - Rear AND side camera prep - Standard TPMS system - The innovative Lippert access steps - Inclusion of the ShowerMiser system (a MUST HAVE for boondocking) - 12 volt fridge in both the interior and exterior kitchen areas (even though I’d prefer to have the option of no exterior kitchen) - Rear cargo door access to the bunk storage area As someone who has been looking for this type of truly off-grid/off-pavement travel trailer, here’s some things I saw in the prototypes that I wish were added or different: - 21’-22’ model with a walkaround bed (like the Rockwood 2109S/Flagstaff 21FBRS/Freedom Express Ultra Lite 192RBS)…there are a lot of small overland trailers like the Overland Micro line on the market now (although the “off-road” ones are not as nice and the ‘nicer’ ones are not as off-road capable as these), but there are virtually no true travel trailers for off-grid/off-road use like the Overland Series. Having said that, a floorplan with a walkaround bed is a MUST DO for the Overland lineup…and if it’s a murphy bed, it HAS TO BE a one-piece lift system - Also a bigger stove with a full oven…I’d much rather have a bigger interior stove/oven than an outside kitchen. Outside kitchens are great for 4th of July RV resort camping, but not very functional when it's cold, windy, storming, too hot and/or too buggy, which are much more typical conditions when off-grid camping. - More storage flexibility with the bunk area(s) instead of outside kitchen…I LOVE when a bunk area has an access door on the back wall, like the 191, as opposed to the side wall (although side wall access is better than no access door). Instead of having the lower bunks flipping up away from a side access door, with a rear access door I like that the bunk flips toward the outer wall (and I’d like to see that for both the upper and lower bunks). This would help protect the side-wall windows from cargo moving (like bike handles), and provide maximum storage flexibility when the bunks are not being used for beds, but (like mentioned above) it would require the removal of the outside kitchen. - Give the buyers options of “top quality” components…obviously a lot of the components on the prototypes are what you see in most industry units (and those found on Jayco RVs) like GoPower Solar, MaxxFan vent fans, etc. If not standard components, let buyer’s choose things like a MaxxFan Deluxe (which has a much lower profile when not in use), Garnet SeeLevel tank sensors, and componentized Solar equipment (like Keystone’s Solar Flex offerings and Victron controllers/monitors). Clearly the Overland series is going to be neither ultra lite or budget offerings, so if buyers are going to be paying premium for a unique product, give them high quality component options to choice from. - Dedicated INTERIOR space for lithium batteries near the main breaker box(es)…it looks like they might have already done this in the Overland 171 and 191 floorplans - Small, dedicated ducting from the interior battery space &/or main breaker box area up to the roof for DIYers to run cabling to the roof if/when they want to expand solar or add additional antennas (for future tech that may not even exist today) - Prewire the solar prep with beefy gauge wire (like 8 gauge)…pre-installed wiring is typically the biggest limiting factor to upgrading solar after purchase - A dedicated spot to store the collapsible ladder…they provide bracing on the exterior walls to hold a ladder steady while in use, but they should also provide a dedicated storage spot to store the ladder while not in use or in transit (like Rockwood/Flagstaff provides in terms of magnets inside the front cargo passthrough to store their manual crankshaft for their stabilizer jacks) - Can you store 30lb propane tanks in the front tongue-mounted cabinet?...it appears that the tanks on the Overland prototypes are 20lbs tanks, and 30lbs tanks are much better for boondocking, but it’s not clear if they would fit in the tongue-mounted steel cabinet. With interior placement of lithium batteries, another option would be to allow for two sets of 20lb tanks on both sides of the cabinet if 30lbs tanks are too tall to fit. - Actual doors on all of the interior cabinets…Given the suspensions on the prototypes and their off-grid focus, they really need doors on the upper cabinets (instead of just the elastic bands) or else anything you have up there will be all over the trailer once you get off of a paved road. - Design/engineer the tank dump outlets to be as high as possible…on the vast majority of travel trailers, even ones with “lift kits”, the dump value locations are, by far, the lowest points of the rig. They are often at the mid-point, or lower, of the tires and typically much lower than the lowest point of the chassis or the stabilizing jacks. On off-grid rigs, you don’t want to impact the chassis or anything below the chassis, least of all your tank dump pipes. - Make these true 4-season campers…the prototypes already have enclosed underbellies, tank heaters and dual-pane windows, so Ember should take the extra steps to get these certified as four-season trailers, which would make them off-road beasts! All in all, these are incredible looking prototypes...and with a few tweaks they would be amazing!

That is wonderful! I love it. First, more cabinets and less "shelving" is better. I personally would never bring anything that needs hanging on a camping trip. Wrinkles and soft cotton are my camping favorites! Lastly, if the door could open over the outdoor cooktop that shelters the cooking area from leaves and debris falling down on the skillet. Thanks for bringing something new... this is very nice.

Ground clearance, Ground clearance, ground clearance. For people like me that will be using it 99% off grid, and towed by a Wrangler or a Jeep Gladiator, and camping on public land in dispersement camping areas. With dirt ungraded and possibly small to medium ruts. Ground clearance a big issue. I really like what I have seeing so far but to actually be good for overlanding you need good ground clearance. That’s where most “off road” RVs fail. Also an inside entertainment system(for the Micro Rock)would be nice. Even if it was just a nice mount or swing arm type thing for your iPhone or iPad. I camp in all weather and all seasons, so would be nice to be able to watch downloaded shows and movies on the inside when it’s cold or rainy. Hopefully the frigid/freezer is Dometic or better. Absolutely love the non scissor jacks, because they look like they will have better ground clearance.

So many things I like, the solar, the awning, the outdoor kitchen, the quality frame and suspension, the steps. Everybody has different needs, depending on if they have kids or if they will be camping as a couple or single. Me personally, would not ever consider buying ANY camper that has a booth style dinette, would never buy any camper with bunks, and doesn't matter how small, I'd never buy a single axle camper. To me, this is a camper for a couple or a single person. If it were a double axle, and the traditional style dinette was replaced with either another reclining sofa with maybe a swivel style small table, and bunks were removed and utilize that space for either more storage or a larger bathroom, I wouldn't hesitate to buy... I have more likes about this companies designs than dislikes. And you did a great job explaining the features. I hope this new company has great success!

Wouldn’t like it with closed cabinets, the shelves give it a nicer open space. I really love the hardware they use on the cabinets. Hurray for true queen size bed!! On the bunkhouse the kitchen has such small counter space, a pop up added side shelves would be good to extend counter. The storage is not great but what a nice bathroom! Would like to see theatre seat option as opposed to dinette. It’s so nice to see something “different” I really enjoyed this video and I’m excited to see more detailed information and on it. I love the way the front and rear are attached to the sides, and that they didn't use that cheap plastic stuff to seal them together. 5. I love the European windows. Now for a couple dislikes. 1. The top cabinets inside need doors with strutts. 2. The bathroom definitely needs a little linen storage. Oh and one other huge thing that I love about this unit, the two burner inline cooktop. I love the extra countertop space that it provides. Thanks for finding this company and showing us these prototypes. I hope this wasn't too long winded. Also, thanks for all of your hard work. I'd never be able to hoist one onto the roof by myself. My two suggestions: 1) In the inside kitchen models, put stainless wall panels on the side and back walls next to the stove to make cleanup easier and 2) on the outside back kitchen, make a flip-up or slide cover for the TV. The Southern gal in me likes bacon, butter, and frying pretty much everything, but grease splatters are hard to clean off plain walls - or TV screens.

Been watching this channel for a long time and love the honest presentation of everything you do. A couple of things I think would be worth looking into, notably on the larger slide models. First instead of a love seat or standard dinette, what about a nice matched set of folding chairs and table? It would allow a ton of packing space for coolers and anything other large items that usually get unloaded anyway along with the ability to move it out under the awning. Second, another option to the dinette area, a fair sized wall mount folding table with a pair of euro chairs would be a nice setup. Keep on mind that I'm relatively biased in that I camp with my significant other and all of our friends have their own campers, so sleeping space isn't much of a concern for me. One thought on the exterior. Since there is a collapsible ladder anyway, I would like to see a nice, heavy duty spare tire mount on top of the front box with two matching spares. It would make sense since this trailer is geared towards the overland off road community. The offroad saying for spares, "two is one, and one is none"

Uncle Josh....Thank you! When you turned on the AC unit without being hooked up I said " Hell yeah!" and "It's about time a manufacturer can figure that out". These look very promising and I also think the bar just got raised and the mic dropped for an industry I feel have spent too many years resting and relying on reputation and lacking on innovation. I don't recall seeing outside speakers or the god forsaken blue lights, that's a huge bonus. I love the dimmer controls. Why did it take this many years for a manufacturer to realize your rv or campsite doesn't need to brighter than the sun. Thank you so much for taking us on this road trip. I too am very excited to see what else Ember rolls out with. P.s. I totally identified with the skylight reference to limousines scenes in 80's and 90's movies.

I like that the model numbers make sense. Other manufacturers have gotten away from that, often the # doesn’t directly tell you the length like it used to.

Love what they are doing with these and the materials they are using. They need to add a little bigger floor plan with more storage for longer trips for retires. With the right floor plan, I would buy one of these in a heart beat. Would be nice to have the bunk are have options like maybe a small desk and lots of storage. Very excited to see what other floor plans they come out with. I think these trailers because of their material choices make these units beat what airstream offers!!

Definitely listened to the demands of the consumers and are delivering to those wants and needs. Wide open inside which in a small camper is a major concern, you would want it to feel spacious. Solar for boon-docking is definitely nice to be truly off grid. One term I have always heard from many who go way off trail, you can not overbuild for the overland. A good friend of mine hunts in Alaska and out west, he tents in and always says if he could find a camper that would last the trail he would buy it. Well, Ember listened my friend. Stepping up big time, the Kayak got me… I am a kayaking guy who loves the water. As far as build quality and hitching: Nailed It! The adjustable height hitch is awesome! Seeing the amount of Jeep’s and off road SUV’s this option is awesome for ground clearance issues, after all many go off the trail, and make their own train. Great job Ember!

I absolutely love them. My pros are : they have a very unique look/ the interior design is very classy with the choice of colors etc. / I like the sky light / I like the cooktop in the center of the counter on the one unit - it allows work space on either side. / 100% everything running on solar is awesome. This should be an option for all of the units. My cons : Skylight dependable screen and window screens / the ROC (and every other existing brand) - the exterior kitchen is doable if you are 6' + tall (Josh you even have trouble back there reaching let alone trying to access cooking safely). No one has taken into consideration that there are average size people of 5' - 5'5 + who would love to havre such a unit (and do) but struggle with that area... Maybe something could be incorporated that would allow a shorter person to have access safely like a flip down stepping area (like what the fenders are made of ? Just a thought... Overall I really like these units!

One of the issues with campers is that the consumer base constantly demands cheaper price for more features and you get shiny products that are poorly assembled and easily broken, that end up not being able to fulfill their purpose. So the demand for cheap actually ends up being MORE expensive in the end. I like that Ember is focusing on build quality and features that are very difficult to do aftermarket. Sitting here it would be badass if a company like Ember made a small off grid camper with big families is mind. I think that could be accomplished if they can have one or two rooftop tents that could be tied into the heating system on a camper. Because the biggest issue with tent camping is it gets cold. That way Mom and Dad sleep in the camper with the littles, and the older kids sleep on top in the tent. And if you could make the tent accessible from the interior of the camper somehow that would make it even more awesome. That way you can get off grid, towing with smaller vehicles, and sleep everyone comfortably.

Reminds me of the Opus or Black Series off-road trailers. Would really like to see a better outdoor kitchen on these (Similar to how Opus does theirs). People go off grid to be outside and a better outside kitchen would be beneficial for the brand. Would also add a window on the bigger trailer on the wall that is blank now and have the pull down screens to keep the bugs out. Anxious to see how the weight and pricing compares to the Opus and Black Series. Thanks for the preview of these!

If they copied the floor plan of the 212 QB (including double axle and the great storage) and found a way to cover the top window when the sun is high in the summer, I would take a serious look at the Ember. I know it will be more expensive and I do have a jumping-off point.

I'm really excited about these trailers. They are addressing a gap in the conventional camper market in North America. I hope they offer a cassette toilet option for those of us that don't dig the stinky slinky life. Given the competition in the country from Australia they will need to get the price right otherwise people will likely buy a proven product instead.

I love these. I like the 171FB. I've been looking as similar models from Jayco and Forest River brands. However, the finishes and ruggedness of the Ember is much better. I agree with you, the front left side needs a window. Additionally, I would like to see cabinet doors for the bed and couch overhead storage and the pantry near the fridge. Also, I think putting a table behind the couch like the Jayco model would be best so its out of the way when not in use. Lastly, does the skylight have a screen slide. Id love to open it for breeze, but don't want the bugs inside. Id also like a digital thermostat instead... lots of other brands have those and I think thats its definitely needed.

Hello Josh, we're new here via computer, been watching you on TV and couldn't comment. Anyway, love the Ember 19 foot model. While this looks fantastic, here's our suggestions: add another floor plan where the bathroom is moved to the door side (remove the bunks and back access door) and move the kitchen to the rear right giving you more counter space, larger appliances and keep the booth dinette! Also an option without the outside kitchen, however, not sure what to do with that space then. Please update us as to weights - especially the hitch - and prices when you can! Very interested! Keep up the great work, love watching your channel!

These trailers are definitely a result of the manufacturers listening to consumer demands. The only thing I personally truly hope for is that the final model does include a lot more storage with the changes that they said they were going to make for the cabinets. As someone who is going to go full time soon, storage is not something that I can sacrifice on

Yeah they’re looking into ways to try to improve that is they recognize it’s a bit of a short coming here.
