Agreed. *DD* could launch right now. This gucci fiasco is a an easy way out if manipulated strategicly. Roll with it for a year but on the low; build up a plan and commercial vendor base of stores and brand ambassadors (entertainment celebs, athletes, etc.) ready to blow it out of the box wearing the *DD* gear during fashion week, All-Star Week, etc. Get silent partners like Kani, Diddy, Daymon John, etc. There are mad possibilities.

I appreciate Mr. Kani’s honesty. He learned how to tap into the international market with his designs, much like musical artists who reach an impasse in the U.S & go overseas to work because their talent is respected & as artists, they are revered. We don’t value our artists or designers enough. To this day, I have to yet to see a documentary that thoroughly covers & honors the contributions of Black designers to the fashion industry & I would love to see that. Growing up, seeing a young Black man design & run his own company meant something to me. I sported my Kani pieces proudly & I am glad to see that he is reintroducing his designs to the U.S market. I hope that he can garner the support that he deserves.

There was an eta of support that no longer exists. Dapper Dan started a different way, and it has come full circle. Building your own brand is great, it’s like starting your own record label but the moment you do that consider your competition. You are in the water with the big boys and you need something unique. I don’t remember any of these brands hip-hop brands standing the test of time. Show me a community that supports and I’ll show you fault in Dan’s approach.

I honestly think dapper dan sign a deal that he can’t go on his own. Some kind of contract that does not allow him to do so. What’s going to happen if he don’t get a good lawyer if this is the situation, Gucci is going to keep him on payroll til he dies and when he does, his clothing will go down in history as art and the amount of money that will be made by Gucci. He should go on his own now. If it’s possible

kenneth green I think it’s call a non competitive contract. Dan knows clothing but I do not think he knows business. That would suck if that’s the situation and most cases it is. Why would I put anyone apart of what I am doing that I can make so much off of, its common for those bigger companies.

Black clothing designer's, such as Hip Hop clothing designer's are not meeting the needs of the entire black community over a five year period of visionary , fashion and Business growth and development. This is why they didn't last. Had they taken a page from Dapper Dan Book, and made some adjustments, they would still be relevant in today's clothing market.

I think this another example of what Dapper Dan was talking about and it seems super simple and obvious to me...but its clearly not that easy. Dapper Dan wants to be luxury...not just a brand. No disrespect to Karl Kani...he's a legend but if it just that easy to do then what happened to his brand? I think Dapper Dan is thinking SMART. Karl had a streetwear brand, not a luxury brand. Theres a difference.

@@gemneyebable I didn't say he said that but he definitely implied never understanding why Dapper Dan wouldn't just take his own name and start something. Watch the Dapper Dan interviews and you'll understand what I mean.

Dapper Dan can’t Be compared to ANY hip hop clothing line. Bc his target consumer isn’t the everyday joe. He’s a LUXURY DESIGNER LIKE GUCCI, LOUIS, TOM FORD, Etc. Karl Kani, Sean John, Rocawear is “urban/street wear. NONLUXURY brands

Basically he's DOING what dapper dan is saying black designers NEED to do as far as getting international distribution. Dapper Dan reminds me of Rick Ross in that he doesn't want to ask anyone for help because of that ego and (mentally) living off of what he had back in the day.
