This Closure Segment is crucial for completing the connection between the Canadian and U.S. sides of the bridge.
Excitement grows to witness the closure section of the bridge deck connect Windsor and Detroit. Today, during our May 10th flyover, we will see the bridge deck sections ever closer to complete.

Since installation of the closure segment will physically enable a new way to cross the Canada-US border, I am thinking the construction of the two ports of entry would have to be completed first.

Hi denelson83. The bridge deck will be complete but they have a lot to do before it is travel ready. Everything is securly fenced off with a non climbable material and 24 hour security patrolling inside. Pretty sure tresspassers would be caught.

Going to be monumental once the span is connected and it officially becomes a bridge. I think the most exciting aspect of the Gordie Howe International Bridge is the pedestrian lanes. It will be cool to ride a bike or walk across the bridge. Also, the Canadians should get the honor of making the final connections since they're the ones financing the project. Edit: Should point out I'm American and live in Michigan so someone doesn't think I am trying to start a fight or something by saying I think Canada should get the honor of putting the final section in, lol.

Hi George. The pedestrain path is a great feature of the bridge. It connects to trails on both the US and Canadain sides. Final connections will be a joint effort from both sides. It'll be interesting to see it go in. Thanks for the great post!

Good to see the cement work nearly finished on the most recent US segment. Looks like they've made good progress on the stay cables, as well. As of yesterday, they still haven't moved the final edge girders and floor beams near the bridge but I'm guessing that will happen in the next day or two. I expect the last US segment to go up by the end of the week. Then we await the appearance and installation of the closure segment. I keep revising my estimate lower on how big that last remaining gap will be. Pretty sure it will be less than 20 feet and will require just one floor beam. We'll soon see.

After using the Ambassador for 30+years I retired 4 years ago. I'm sad I won't be using this beautiful crossing. I remember when Blue water was completed, they have a picture of me in my truck on the Finished roadway.

From the video, it looks like the midspan connector (closure segment) will be around 7 meters instead of their estimated 11 meters, but that is just my unscientific guess! I think right now, there's probably a 22 meter (72.2 feet) gap, one 15 meter segment on the US side, then a ~7 meter midspan connector.

Well it looks like it will happen very soon provided we can get out of this Ark Building weather. The panels are in place and just needs the cement to tie them together. Given the speed I think the deck base will be completed before June. Then it needs a ton of work to finish before it gets traffic but at least the deck will be completed.

At least they won't have to lift their coolers up onto the deck with a crane every day once the approach segments are done! Fun to capture that in the footage.

Looks like June for joining. But the bridge doesn’t open to traffic until 2025.

Hi Dylan. Right. There is a ton of work still to be completed on the Bridge and the Plazas on both sides of the river. Fall opening in 2025.

Hi Lynn. I'd like that date, too, if you hear about it. I think it will take more visits to the site to be ready for the day. Kinda inconvenient, but it's anybodys guess. Could be delayed by weather or whatever. Good question. Thanks for posting.

Hi AU_4591. There are no lost time injuries recorded on the GHB when I did a search. They have won a number of saftey awards as well.
