The Gordie should take a lot of hazmat traffic from the Bluewater bridges in Sarnia. I think the Ambassador bridge still prohibits most hazmat. As of Oct.29th class 3 fuels, and class 8 batteries are allowed, but that traffic will use the Gordie once it opens. Any hazmat coming down the 401 to destinations in Detroit or south will save a few hours, and toll dollars by using the new bridge.

Interesting project! I had heard about it in some videos but didn’t make the effort to follow up. Glad to know this bridge should be open by September 2025; it will undoubtedly be a major attraction for road users and tourists on either side of the Detroit River. One question, though. As I understand it, the Gordie Howe Bridge will be incorporated in the interstate highway network on the U.S. side. Will the bridge have a connection to Highway 401? Might part of the bridge be incorporated in Ontario’s 400-series network as a result of a possible connection to the 401?

There is a bridge in vancouver like this. In the freezing wet weather icicles formed on the cables and when they broke off they landed on the cars. Extremly dangerous.
@bobjonesrealtor77562 күн бұрын
Hi StellasGrampa. I've heard. My daughter lives out there and has told me about it. It's been mentioned in the community from time to time. The GHB has said they have that problem covered, but that will prove right or wrong in the first good winter storm. However, I did a quick search as your comment intrigued me. This is what I found; Both the Port Mann Bridge and the Alex Fraser Bridge have experienced icing problems, with the Port Mann Bridge being more notorious for this issue. The problem still persists, although measures have been taken to mitigate it. ## Port Mann Bridge The Port Mann Bridge has had significant issues with "ice bombs" since its opening in 2012[1][2]. In December 2012, ice and snow falling from overhead cables damaged over 300 vehicles[3]. Despite the installation of cable collars in 2013 to help dislodge accumulated snow and ice, the problem continues. In December 2016, about 50 insurance claims were filed due to falling ice and snow[3]. ## Alex Fraser Bridge The Alex Fraser Bridge has also experienced icing problems, though less frequently than the Port Mann Bridge. In December 2016, 95 claims were filed for damage caused by falling ice on this bridge[3]. The bridge has been shut down multiple times due to "ice bombs," with incidents reported in 2005, 2008, and 2012[3]. ## Current Status As of 2024, both bridges still face challenges with ice accumulation: 1. Climate change has led to more frequent incidents of ice bombs on both bridges in recent years[4]. 2. The cable collar systems installed on both bridges have improved the situation but have not completely eliminated the problem[4]. 3. Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions closely and may implement partial or full closures of the bridges when necessary for safety[4]. Despite ongoing efforts to mitigate the issue, drivers crossing these bridges during winter conditions should remain cautious of potential falling ice and snow. There we have it. Let's hope the Gordie Howe Bridge is the exception! 😎👍 Great post! Hi MrLaxwiz. Maybe, but doesn't seem that way for Aspire in London Ontario. They just let two thirds of their employees go. Their jobs are gone. Canadian taxpayers are still on the hook for the 8.5 million the Trudeau government invested in the cricket factory. EV's are coming. No doubt about that fact. Mandating them into being is in my view the wrong way to do it. If the EV market does not rebound what will the benefit be to Windsor? We still are on the hook for 15 billion invested in this factory Stellantis and LG Energy were going to build for 4.5 billion. Can you give me examples of government giveaways that have been successful? It's one scandal after the other in Canadian politics. I know there are good investments being made. The Gordie Howe Bridge and the infrastructure in Windsor are a couple. For the most part I don't trust the government and/or global corporations any more than I can afford their growing taxes. Just my opinion.

Wow LG lost a complete plant in the USA Due to fire and a 2nd one caught fire, what's the environmental impact on that? The resources needed to extract the materials from the ground is the real concern as that's not a green venture and reduces any environmental advantage of an EV. With the life of the battery and the carbon footprint to build it main concerns for the GREEN 💚 🟩 claims of EV's also the manufactures like Ford actual withholding information related to the battery process with raw materials and the use of child labor in thier annual shareholders proxy votes 2024 does not raise confidence at all as their transparency around batteries is even less than Ice manufacturing e.g PIG iron agreement across a multitude of manufacturers. There is nothing like this around Battery and EV production so what are they hiding. I will not buy any EV until there is a battery subscription like Nio, which gets rid of 1/3rd the cost of the car and the biggest liability both financially and maintenance wise. That's to even consider a purchase as I would never park it in a covered garage or close to a structure I own, let alone charging infrastructure issues and speed of non Tesla fast charging well below 175kw/hr. Policy will never drive the free market and I won't ever by a vehicle based on policy. iD Buzz to replace my unifor 7 passenger family vehicle at $90k plus tax are you insane 😳 I would get an F-250 XLT crewcab 4x4 with Tremor package which will be built in Oakville supporting local job with a 7.3L Godzilla V8 built in Windsor support more local jobs. It will last a good 15+yrs with no range anxiety $89-97k tax in before I buy any EV that's for sure. Sorry not sorry I'll save from now till 2034 and then BAM I'm good for 15yrs or more after 2035 ICE sales ban 2050 I'll let the next generation figure it out and it ain't Batteries that will do it only 25% if that will be EV market max 30% in 2040 and you thought the government bailout of GM and Chrysler aka Stelantis was a waste of tax payers dollars!! 😂🤣🤣

Google gasoline fires in cars
@bobjonesrealtor77562 күн бұрын
Hi Libspar. I have, and I did. Yes I agree there are more gas fires in cars, But they are quite a different animal and hard to compare. This is what I found; Fire-fighting techniques for gasoline and electric vehicle fires differ significantly due to the unique characteristics of each type of vehicle: ## Gasoline Vehicle Fires - Typically extinguished using conventional methods and foam or dry chemical agents[4]. - Firefighters focus on cooling the fuel tank and preventing fuel leakage[4]. - Once the fire is out, it usually stays out[3]. ## Electric Vehicle (EV) Fires - Require large volumes of water for suppression and cooling the battery area[5]. - May take much longer to extinguish compared to conventional fires[5]. - Risk of reignition due to thermal runaway, necessitating continuous monitoring with thermal imaging cameras[5]. - Firefighters may need to access the underside of the vehicle to reach the battery compartment[5]. - Specialized training is required due to the unique challenges posed by lithium-ion battery fires[3]. ## Key Differences 1. **Water Usage**: EV fires may require significantly more water. One fire department reported using over 28,000 gallons on a single EV fire[1]. 2. **Duration**: EV fires can burn longer and reignite even after appearing extinguished[3]. 3. **Approach**: For EVs, firefighters may need to lift the vehicle to access the battery or use specialized tools to reach under the vehicle[5]. 4. **Safety Precautions**: With EVs, firefighters must be cautious of potential electric shock and avoid cutting high-voltage cables[5]. 5. **Post-Fire Procedures**: EVs require extended monitoring and special handling during towing and storage due to the risk of reignition[2]. In some cases, especially in rural areas with limited resources, firefighters may opt to let an EV fire burn out while protecting surrounding exposures[1]. EV's are the future. Don't believe me, then believe no less than the CEO of Ford, Jim Farley. If we don't build production here in North America, then we’re simple handing over the future to the Chinese. Bob, I love your videos, but you're spreading anti-EV disinformation, I hope to god unknowingly. First of all, at the higher price levels, EV's are already cheaper than ICE cars over their lifetime. At the lower levels they will be soon. Hundreds of less parts, and plummeting battery cost will insure that reality, as will the ramping up of the all important supply chain. It's just that the EV industry can only move so fast, and they started at the top end, as they had to, and are working their way down. The Chinese already produce a cheap EV for under $10,000 that’s way better than any comparable ICE car. I unfortunately found your example of a very small ICE car being half the price of a “comparable” EV to be wildly misleading. And if you can't afford an new EV, then do what I've done for years with all types of cars, buy a used one. Range anxiety is also a thing of the past for anyone except the most remote rural folks who have to regularly drive more than a hundred miles from their house. Just take a look at the Tesla supercharger map. Or the Plug Share map. Chargers are all over the place, and more are being added every day. I’ve driven thousands of miles from Montreal down through rural Maine and all through rural Virginia, and I’ve never had a single problem charging my Model Y. As far as EV's lasting half the time of ICE cars, that's one I've literally never hear of before. I expect my EV to last much longer than my ICE cars ever did. Modern batteries, and battery management systems, are much, much better than the batteries of even two years ago, much less ten. And most batteries are projected to outlast their original car. In other words, in all but the driest of climates, most battery will outlast the chassis they're housed in. And as others have said in this comment section, if you're worried about car fires, and no one I know in my entire life has ever even mentioned that fear before the anti-EV fear campaign tried so cynically to make it an issue, then fear of fires might be the very best reason of all to buy an EV over an ICE car. Just check out the insurance statistics. So who shouldn’t buy an EV today? People who regularly have to haul heavy loads more than a hundred and fifty miles and don’t like to stop every two hours. People who for whatever reason don’t want to stop to eat and pee every four hours when they go on a road trip. People who can’t charge at home or at work, and don’t want to have to spend 40 minutes or so a week at a supercharger. Or people who can’t charge at home or work and don’t yet live near a supercharger/fastcharger. Other than that, EV’s are more fun to drive, cheaper to drive, and safer to drive. And the only people telling you differently are fossil fuel interests and legacy ICE car interests. And what possible reason could they have to lie to us?
@bobjonesrealtor77562 күн бұрын
Hi Tom. Great post, thank you! It's totally possible I'm wrong. My opinions are based on what I see, read and hear from sources on both sides of the fence. I think EV's are coming but the technology has not reached its potential as yet. The mandates are wishful and harmful to the industry. I like the idea of EV's, and they work for some such as yourself. The majority of consumers are currently not in the same camp. Again just my opinion. I would never knowingly spread disinformation about anything, just so you know. Thanks for the detailed and informative feedback.👍

Great video Bob..I’ve owned two hybrid vehicles Prius and a Fusion and they both were reliable vehicles.I was leaning towards a EV but after my research I’m not convinced as of today that it’s a good investment.I believe consumers have to be confident spending these outrageous prices and range anxiety is a deal breaker,the top vehicle’s on average have a range of 500kms on a full charge but factor in weather such as our Canadian climate and that drops to around 400kms.Now a typical ICE has a range of 800-900kms.I think the younger generation will buy these vehicles in 15-20 years and I still don’t understand why these companies didn’t go with a lighter vehicle with longer range to convince buyers like me that buying a small EV’s with longer range makes sense.(cents)….thanks again Bob!

Hi Michael how are you doing? :) Glad to have you here. I think it is too early to judge. As time rolls on, and more EV's take to the streets, the advantages and disadvantages will define themselves. However you are right about ICE vehicles more likely to catch fire. Good points, so I did a quick search and this is what I got back; Based on the available data, it appears that fires are less likely to occur in electric vehicle (EV) accidents compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle accidents, even when the EV's battery is compromised[2][3]. However, it's important to note that when EV fires do occur, they can be more challenging to extinguish and may pose unique risks. Several studies and reports indicate lower fire rates for EVs: 1. The Swedish Contingencies Agency found that ICE vehicles were twenty times more likely to catch fire than EVs in Sweden[2]. 2. A global study on EV battery fires for 2010-2020 showed a rate of 0.0012% for passenger vehicle batteries catching fire, compared to 0.1% for ICE passenger vehicles[2]. 3. Data compiled by Auto Insurance EZ found that EVs had just 25.1 fires per 100,000 sales, compared to 1529.9 fires per 100,000 sales for ICE vehicles[2]. However, it's crucial to consider that: 1. EV fires, when they do occur, can be more severe and challenging to extinguish, often requiring significantly more water than ICE vehicle fires[2][3]. 2. The risk of thermal runaway in damaged EV batteries can lead to reignition and prolonged firefighting efforts[1][3]. 3. The data on EV fires is still limited, and as the number of EVs on the road increases and they age, fire risks may change[3]. In conclusion, while current data suggests that EV fires are less likely to occur in accidents compared to ICE vehicles, the severity and challenges associated with EV fires when they do happen should not be underestimated. So your correct, but the data may be slanted. Also the issues with EV fires is quite different to a gas fire. The number of ICE to EV's on the road hasn't had time to make a proper analysis. As the EV revolution evolves, and hopefully the needed infrastructure catches up, so will public opinion. Using batteries for cars is still at its infancy stage, so there are going to be lots of changes and things that people are impossible will become possible. If we don't move forward some other country will and we will be left behind. It's like years ago when people first bought cars. "Why are you buying a car? Where are you going to fuel up? There aren't many gas stations! I can feed my horse along the side of the road any time I want!"

Louis, you are right. Lots of changes. Incredible things are on the cusp of becoming part of our reality. That said, the politics and courruption and theft of taxpayer money is rampant in Canada. Officials are being exposed in scandles they shield in the name of cc. If you bend a stick too far it breaks. Most things in life self correct, and the EV market is no different. The pullback against EV's, in my personal opinion is just that, a correction. Thanks for the thoughtful post!:)

@@bobjonesrealtor7756 Many people get into politics with pure intentions but power corrupts unless a person makes a real concerted effort to prevent that from happening. We had a politician back in the day acquire a piece of land after he retired from politics. The local media found out he got the land that had an estimated value of $175,000 around 1977 for one dollar! He told the media that the person who sold him the property was a "friend". I wish I had a "friend" like that!
