Reactor 5 was about 70 percent completed and construction of reactor 6 was just getting underway. Construction of both reactors was halted when reactor 4 exploded in 1986. They were ultimately cancelled in 1989 probably because the environment was too hazardous for construction to continue on both reactors. Future plans for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was to construct 6 more RBMK reactors with each generating 1000 megawatts. All 12 reactors were scheduled to be online by 2010. If the Chernobyl nuclear disaster hadn't occurred, I'm sure the plant itself would have become the largest nuclear power plant in the world.
@SQSNSQ4 жыл бұрын
@adam shreds It was not a sabotage, but rather an arrogant stupidity. When the reactor was designed, it's creators knew, the "caseless" design is rather dangerous and built in redundant amount of protection and safety measures. But, people who caused this disaster managed to bypass and turn off all this systems, one by one. They wanted to see, what will happen, if all of those systems will fail (as if it wasn't obvious enough). The idea behind this experiment was to see, what will happen in case of a hostile nuclear strike, which may disable some, or all of the protection systems of the reactor. As it was predetermined by the designers, the reactor went out of control only when the last protective system was turned off during the experiment. The experimentators immediately turned it back on-line, but it was too late. And everything else is history now.
@galahexolion4 жыл бұрын
Dima was just joking, for all the people to know. There is absolutely safe because it never ran, it was never finished. The only scary thing about that reactor is that you could fall through rusted or decayed floor. So don't be worried about that guy who was scared as hell. :D

regarding the dogs : “They’re very friendly, but you want to avoid petting them,” said Claire Corkhill, a nuclear-waste-disposal researcher at the University of Sheffield who’s been assisting with the Chernobyl cleanup. The grown ones can carry radiation in their fur, so until 2018 it was illegal to remove them from the area. Corkill described the dogs as “mangy” and “not very well looked after,” except for by workers at the power plant who feed them scraps or adopt them as pets. Corkhill said the workers are probably petting the dogs quite often, but “they’re the ones going into the reactor every day, so it’s part of the risk.” They are captured and tagged. Not guard dogs, just wild boys who are being looked after by americans.

16:14, radiation is 20mR/h. Quite a lot. But lifting that crane hook was a really stupid move. Some years ago bionerd23 took a paper tissue and scrubbed the surface of the famous crane claw. The paper tissue became radioactive too (not surprisingly). Also she went to that radioactive hospital basement. That sand was extremely dangerous. She always said that she "isn't picky about radiation". But at that time she got a full body protection suit too. And as it turns out the suit protected her body and lungs from several floating radioactive particles which she analysed later. (the particles got tangled in the filters of her mask. So she was able to take them apart and check out what it was. That heavy sand was radioactive.
