There are many reasons for Tesla’s successes. The biggest reason is rarely mentioned, the products are designed and produced to satisfy the buyers needs. Notably for safety, fun to drive, hardware and software technologies and affordability/reliability.
@shepherdsknoll4 күн бұрын
You left out that Teslas are proprietary, fully integrated vehicles, their biggest advantage. This means Tesla manufacturers their own components and write their own software. This is extremely important because it allows all the components of the car to talk to each other seamlessly. If you are GM or Ford, you buy your components from Bosch, AC Delco and others who write their own software and cannot be talked to by one single GPU. I think I saw somewhere that Ford has something like 5 different operating systems in the Mustang EV. This becomes more and more important as Tesla moves to more and more sophisticated systems like Ethernet to control the functions of the car. When people buy any random EV because because it has a battery and a electric motor and they like the way it looks, they are making a big mistake- they are buying the equivalent of a flip phone, when you buy a Tesla, you are buying the equivalent of a smart phone.

Why do they need to take it ? They can have all the techology for free! Tesla purposely have made their technologies available with open source patents. How do you think the Chinese got so good at it? They took advantage of it, plain and simple. Legacy automakers talked a game for a while but balked. In 2023 Musk said: "If there are no trade barriers, Chinese EV will pretty much demolish most other car companies in the world." This video proves his point.

By the time China cars add on all the crap required by the US DOT, they will have little financial advantage here in the US and Teslas won't be effected all that much. The risk is not China but the US DOT insane regulations which Americans can no longer afford to buy. A stupid replacement for a lost chipped key for a car at a dealer is over $300.00. A key for my old 2006 truck is $2.00. Talk about stupid. I don't know what China is building but GM, Ford, Toyota and VW build cars which explode as soon as the warranty is over. Engines with rubber belts driving oil pumps. Water pumps inside the front timing cover, when they leak it goes right in the oil and good by engine.

Tesla is too technologically ahead for legacy auto to adapt to any part of Tesla. That train left the station years ago. Tesla seamlessly evolves, is vertically integrated, has superior scaling, supply chains, and a vibrant workforce. The hierarchy structure of legacy auto led to stagnation (as Sandy Monroe points out.) Theoretically, a Tesla janitor with a singularly great idea could explain it to Musk directly. Jeannine

The legacy automakers are smart. If anything, their perspective just needs tweaking for the new market. For instance, they've already adapted Tesla's gigapress paradigm. Therefore, they're quick to adopt the manufacturing paradigm. However, It seems odd especially for Ford and GM who have been making plug-in hybrids for years to not have come out with a competitive BEV model by now. They could just setup a small skunkworks utilizing some talent from top tier suppliers who know how to write it to work on the software if that's the key area that they're lacking. Plug-in hybrids would already have the electric motor/drivetrain.
@lawrencesmith90594 күн бұрын
The right pathway for these other brands is to focus on hiring Tesla software engineering talent (just pay them enough) and create a software company that works for multiple companies. They also need to focus on building a battery company that is competitive with BYD, CATL.

Aweaome interview 🙌 Is it fair or accurate to say that China, despite being state funded, needs to prove their model is profitable in foreign markets (like Tesla) before they takeover anything? Otherwise, they are subsidizing foreign markets at a loss which is unsustainable. Also, assuming Tesla completes FSD lvl 5, and their autos peoduce 5x more, then no other auto co. can compete car for car whether state owned or not. Also also, I think the 50/50 remark was inaccurate. Based on what was said, Chine would apply pressure or cut ties if they didn’t need them, and reading between the lines, Tesla wouldn't be leveraging their relationship shopping around with "talks" of new factories (some closer to China than others) to keep their options open while securing more business where it makes the most sense atm - China. I am amazed at how deflty Musk and Tesla continue to out maneuver everybody else at their own game incredible. China is making nice EVs, I hope they can be competitive in all markets.
@nguyep42 күн бұрын
Elon knows China's ambition and what it means. Elon knows the strength in their ability to innovate and out compete all. China would never jeopardize its relationship with Tesla unless it declared war. Tesla has too much to offer, unless Ai isn't what Elon thought to be, then anything could happen in China. But Tesla would still be dominate in EV.
