i can’t thank Mr. Saunders enough for giving us these insights. Even more, my gratitude to him for writing this incredible, hilarious, sad, moving book. It has become one of my favorite books ever. And thanks to Service 95 for bringing it to us!

I just finished the book a couple of days ago. A few pages in I had done a quick Google for help in making sense of the narrative, which was enough to continue reading without too great confusion. Saunders' explanation here seems to me ideal, and I feel happily inclined to reread the book right away. It's not lengthy, and the reading experience should be less bumpy this time around.

I am deeply grateful for this kind and thoughtful “troubleshooting” guide. I chose this book for a book club and my lovely wife found this video and sent it to our fellow book club members. It helped a lot of people through their initial challenges towards a much more enjoyable experience.

Currently LISTENING to this via Audible. I am also realizing what I don't get to visualize. that is the lower case/upper case innuendo, Now I am OK with that. I completely understand and appreciate the playfulness with the written word. I also listen and multitask which I never did when I read a novel. It got me thinking about E. E. Cummings and his poem 'Buffalo Bill's' and the construction and placement of words and how you would miss that in audio. Now I did read the summary about Lincoln is in a graveyard having conversations and that appealed to my curiosity. I looked up 'Bardo' and got that OK there may be a kind of train station element to this. Part of me started thinking about how long someone stays there but resolved that it differs from person/ghost to person/ghost. I have to bit more to listen to so some of those thoughts might get resolved. I like the references to historic back ground setting up dialogue exchanges. Thanks for the pointers.

I loved this book. I found the writing propulsive , somewhat seductive. I'm easily distracted and abandon a lot of books but not this one. After watching this explainer I realise I barely understood half of what was going on 😀 . Brilliant book : thanks for this deconstruction !

This is a brilliant dissection of the first bit of this amazing book. If you’re struggling with the book I urge you to persevere, as it completely pays off in the end.

Thanks! I'm not sure I picked up the lowercase = deceased, uppercase = alive when I read the book. I wanna reread it some day so I'll rewatch this one too before that.

Anyone else getting a sort of Disco Elysium vibe?

Having read the book and finished Disco a few times you just blew my mind a little bit. There’s a deeper spiritual connection between the two than I’ve ever put together.
