What is he correct about, that all men are right about football and all women are wrong? Plenty of blokes talk utter nonsense about the game, and if what a woman is saying happens to be a valid point then does it matter that she is a woman? Either the point is valid or she is talking nonsense and if it is a case of the latter then by all means pull her about the merits of what she is saying, rather than just disagree because she is a woman. And what if a female pundit makes a point about something and then a male pundit agrees with her, before elaborating on it further? Does her point only become valid once the male confirms what she has said?

Barton has always been a legend in his own mind. Women should fear him, he has a track record. His "amazingly successful" career in football coaching tells you all a person needs to know about his knowledge on the finer points of the game. He is simply jealous that nobody really wants him as a pundit. If he truly believes in a meritocracy, he should agree that he doesn't merit a job as a football pundit, so many more qualified than him, regardless of gender. BT used an all-woman analysis crew for a match last season on International Women's Day and they were actually better than than the men, as they focused entirely on the game and tactics, rather than joking around and talking guff like a lot of the males ex-pros do (I think we all know who I'm likely referring to here). Like in anything, getting hired and put in front of the camera should be down to how good of a job you can do, that's all that matters. I could care less how many England caps you've had, or how famous you were as a player. Of course, the same goes for how many boxes you tick. I've heard more sense talked by people who've never played the game at a high level than by many of the well-known pundits who are regulars on TV currently. So i get where Barton is coming from regarding tokenism, but disagree that giving these opportunities to a bunch of recognizable ex-players is a good idea; they've always done this and the quality of commentating and analysis is pretty low.

Love how Carl kept his mouth shut when it came to making comparisons between men's and women's boxing! The depth of talent and skill required to compete in the mens boxing vastly outclasses the womens! Just look at some of the former world champions, Shannon Courtney didn't start boxing until her 20's coming from a cold, overweight start. Ebanie Bridges didn't start until just before her 30th birthday! Even in commentating I don't see how you can make a case for the two afformentioned boxers being pundits/ commentators over men, yet they both have!

Listen to him carefully, he said every time on TV there is someone who ticks the D&I box. I agree with him to a certain extent but he is generalising. 15/20 years ago there was a lot less Black pundits (who are within the D&I box) but you see them now. I would say rightly so the likes of Henry; Micah;Evra;Jermaine Jenas. I watched the Piers Morgan show where he was challenge to give specific examples on who isnt qualified. When we used the so called “merit” in the past we didnt have woman and black people in those positions.What is his idea of merit? How do we measure it? If we put himself against the achievements of some of pundits he was criticising he hasnt achieved much! Its even worse if we put his achievements against the D&I male pundits he is attacking. Saying that female achievements do not count because they are female its then out of order!
