If everyone suddenly agreed that gold was worthless it would still be used in jewelry and tooth fillings and electronics etc.... It's useful and its value could recover. Bitcoin does nothing other than be an agreed upon value... and that's it. If we all agree that it's worthless than it will not be missed. It didn't have a job that something else would then have to fill. Bitcoin is circling the drain my friends. The world of crypto can easily exist without it and soon will.

Using bitcoin, you can transfer any amount of money instantly anywhere with no third party involvement. That's where its value lies. Also, younger generations view it in exactly the same way older generations view gold- a store of wealth, outside of fiat currencies. It doesn't matter what critics like yourself think when there are millions who perceive it as having value - those millions of people are what give bitcoin value, not you. Your opinion in the matter becomes irrelevant to bitcoin value.

@@mart34With regard to money transfer Bitcoin is hardly instant. Nowhere near finality in 3-5 seconds and for a fraction of a penny like Hedera's Hbar for one. That is something Bitcoin can't come close to. And on the subject of value we agree. I don't matter. As long as others see Bitcoin has value then it does. My point was about uses other than that. Gold, regardless of how we all agree on its value, has jobs to do that other metals can't do as well. It will then always have value. Bitcoin can disappear and the only void left behind would be what token takes its place. It would not be missed.

@davehooper6481 You hold fair points. I have been a gold bug for 15 years, stacking primarily silver. I accumulated some bitcoin 7 years ago. The younger generations perceiving bitcoin as having value is not given enough credit. Older generations liked the history of gold, and stacking their precious shiny gold coins as a hedge against fiat currency debasement, corrupt monetary policy etc etc. Younger generations like having their encrypted password protected crypto apps and tokens on their smart phones, for the same reasons (bitcoin was literally invented because of the GFC). The real bitcoin fans are the equivalent to stackers. Nice speaking to you and have a good day

Bitcoin has value because like gold is scarce and is expensive to mine. The mining and scarcity is what give BTC value full stop. 1

It can continue for decades as long as you don't get too many people into Bitcoin. Even with the single purpose of being a store of value it is going to struggle with low tps. World wide usage would crush Bitcoin don't you think? I realize that there are layer 2 'solutions' but do they really make up the difference between Bitcoin and hundreds of more capable networks? Value is subjective and can be sustainable but eventually Bitcoins massive energy requirements are going to make it less attractive compared to all others.
