That would be perfect for when you speak to someone in a different country and you can't understand them, say if you're traveling and try and order food or catch a train. You'll know what's being said to you because these could have the translation beamed right into your vision.

If it was just a normal screen, it would be terrible for your eyes, sure. If I heard correctly, though, the idea is that the laser projects directly on the retina. No focusing of the eye's internal lens necessary. You could be staring into the stars at night while reading a book using this thing without the risk of getting lens induced myopia which you'd have if you read book by holding it in your hands.

They're highly reflective, which usually is a characteristic of low-quality glasses. In this case, they probably have to be reflective because of the laser. But nobody wants to wear reflective glasses all the time, it's terrible, especially in sunlight. Also, it makes your eyes look strange to others (like in the video).
@g.e.o.r.g.e...
@g.e.o.r.g.e... 7 жыл бұрын
I don’t think they’re unable to ad an AR coating on the exterior, or even a mirror finish. The design of the frame, being flat and leaving a huge gap between the outside corner of the eyes is a problem for reflections indeed. I think they could make them more form fitting like typical active style Oakleys. Imagine if they had a sharp camera with optical stabilization and like 3.4x zoom that could be projected into the dominant eye with a reticle that’s automatically adjusted for windage and elevation... you could shoot from behind cover accurately without shouldering the rifle. I don’t really see it as being that much more expensive than premium glass, and it could save lives.

Well, the light source is not debatable. It's a laser-based technology, but unlike a traditional laser, VCSEL's phased photons are emitted perpendicular from the top surface. What you call laser is better known as an edge-emitting semiconductor laser or an in-plane laser. He made no mistake stating that it was not a laser. VCSELs are an order of magnitude more efficient than an in-plane laser.

Great for commuting. 18) face recognition for certain events which you opt into. Therefore people can see your profile and name. 19) F1 - keep track of lap number and who is the leader. 20) live tennis scores for live events. 21) Check traffic status of routes and get live updates. 22) star constellations. Because this is all so data intensive. It will definitely require Bluetooth to your phone. Wasn’t hard for me to think up loads of good ideas for wearables.

@R X a lot of those points would need more sophisticated smart glasses with cameras. e.g. 2, 3, 11, 22 or would need a lot of integration with your smartphone e.g. 13 (only works if the phone knows what TV channel you're on), 7 (very exact indoor tracking + integration by the museum). But none of these are impossible, just probably something for generation 2 or 3

I guess you haven't seen Steam or Newegg's recent or 6 month ratings that show up first then... just a couple of examples already existing that fix your concern. Also there is simply no way for an individual human to get their hands on every single product or meet every single person in the world, but collective reviews have been field tested for years, think online shopping, when a product has 2 or 3 stars it always means it has one or more significant flaws that undermine it's use and thus may not be a product worth investing in. To cite a very recent example for me (yesterday in fact) if a motherboard consistently fails to boot up for the vast majority of people, there is a very high chance you will pay for a dud product you can't use and a low chance of support in the near term considering they would have to get to all the other people that have failed products first.

It seems over the years there's still interest in wearable displays so I'm sure without a doubt that some time in the future we will all be wearing something other than what we have now. Just like the upgrade from regular phones to smartphones. If that's 1 year, 10 years or 20 years is hard to say but there seems to be a interest in it regardless. If it's a quality of life upgrade, it'll probably go quick.

Traditional tests will eventually become useless in determining intelligence when we can just leverage the task of memory and knowledge to a machine. A future where machine minds are placed into human ones isn't all that unlikely either.

It does not even have to be cell phones. It could be used for sports, engineering or flying. The applications and details are endless. And when Ai is layered on top of AR it will mean that the human experience will change very very rapidly.

While it is possible, it requires the surgical implantation of a device into one’s brain. Vision has also only partially been restored in the form of movement detection, allowing for one to see the edges and rough outlines of objects, but nothing more currently.

This is fascinating and of course, mildly disturbing. The interesting part is what new technologies and innovations come out of the process of creating the tech/hardware, as well as what developers come up with. At this point, I have zero interest in having this kind of data on my face, but who knows, maybe some day this will become the norm. It’s disturbing to think of someone slightly shaking their head while you’re trying to have a conversation. Ignore people more efficiently!

If you don't need to have good vision to see it sharp on your eye sight could you use this or maybe a more developed future technology to make glasses that actually picked the 180° image of a normal eye sight and display it in the eye ball of a person with bad eye sight and make them see properly? With like..."very high" resolution cameras/sensors in the glasses?

I don't mind tech on my face BUT I wear prescript glasses AND contacts. I know this is new tech but we as wearers of glasses NEED this to work cohesively with those things. Also, they'd need to be able to be polycarbonate, photo chromatic ,etc. I'd gladly test any of these out for you guys! ;-)

Actually they mention in the video that they are prescription ignostic. You're good to go. I would think its because they are using a laser to project the image which would allow the display to work at any focus distance.

@gfox9295
@gfox9295 6 жыл бұрын
+Brett Cameratraveler yes, but people who wear prescription glasses still need those glasses on to see actual stuff near, far, or both (seeing what these smartglasses is projecting onto your retina perfectly despite your own vision issues is not a replacement for everything else you need to see moment to moment throughout your day, after all). I don't think many peops are gonna wanna try wearing their normal glasses and these at the same time. If these flipped down to cover normal lenses like some sunglass lenses do, that'd be another thing. Or like Millar said, if you could get custom-made versions of these where the lenses WERE your prescription lenses... there ya go.
