If it was just a normal screen, it would be terrible for your eyes, sure. If I heard correctly, though, the idea is that the laser projects directly on the retina. No focusing of the eye's internal lens necessary. You could be staring into the stars at night while reading a book using this thing without the risk of getting lens induced myopia which you'd have if you read book by holding it in your hands.

They're highly reflective, which usually is a characteristic of low-quality glasses. In this case, they probably have to be reflective because of the laser. But nobody wants to wear reflective glasses all the time, it's terrible, especially in sunlight. Also, it makes your eyes look strange to others (like in the video).
@g.e.o.r.g.e...7 жыл бұрын
I don’t think they’re unable to ad an AR coating on the exterior, or even a mirror finish. The design of the frame, being flat and leaving a huge gap between the outside corner of the eyes is a problem for reflections indeed. I think they could make them more form fitting like typical active style Oakleys. Imagine if they had a sharp camera with optical stabilization and like 3.4x zoom that could be projected into the dominant eye with a reticle that’s automatically adjusted for windage and elevation... you could shoot from behind cover accurately without shouldering the rifle. I don’t really see it as being that much more expensive than premium glass, and it could save lives.

I guess you haven't seen Steam or Newegg's recent or 6 month ratings that show up first then... just a couple of examples already existing that fix your concern. Also there is simply no way for an individual human to get their hands on every single product or meet every single person in the world, but collective reviews have been field tested for years, think online shopping, when a product has 2 or 3 stars it always means it has one or more significant flaws that undermine it's use and thus may not be a product worth investing in. To cite a very recent example for me (yesterday in fact) if a motherboard consistently fails to boot up for the vast majority of people, there is a very high chance you will pay for a dud product you can't use and a low chance of support in the near term considering they would have to get to all the other people that have failed products first.

It seems over the years there's still interest in wearable displays so I'm sure without a doubt that some time in the future we will all be wearing something other than what we have now. Just like the upgrade from regular phones to smartphones. If that's 1 year, 10 years or 20 years is hard to say but there seems to be a interest in it regardless. pfft. see schmee... with smart glasses, who needs to 'see' anything anymore?
@gfox92956 жыл бұрын
+Brett Cameratraveler yes, but people who wear prescription glasses still need those glasses on to see actual stuff near, far, or both (seeing what these smartglasses is projecting onto your retina perfectly despite your own vision issues is not a replacement for everything else you need to see moment to moment throughout your day, after all). I don't think many peops are gonna wanna try wearing their normal glasses and these at the same time. If these flipped down to cover normal lenses like some sunglass lenses do, that'd be another thing. Or like Millar said, if you could get custom-made versions of these where the lenses WERE your prescription lenses... there ya go.
