*ESPN talked about a story (I personally never heard before) in which Kenny feels guilty about his brother's death when they were kids.. Kenny talking about how he had it planned to throw the towel on this fight if he didn't like what he saw. I don't think he would be able to handle it if Shawn was ever seriously hurt in a fight on his watch. Cognizant of that, I understand his perspective on his decision today.*

He Said after the fight that he stopped it bc Shawn didn't prepare properly. That's not a concerned father. That's salt and a hurt ego. Shawn is going to take a year off and then comeback without his father. He will have a new trainer. I think it’s just the end of the road for his dad training him. If you have watched the interaction between the 2 during training, his father has all the answers. Shawn has been in the game a long time and a fighter needs to have some input on how he fights because it’s his body. A coach a trainers voice can get old and sometimes you need a new voice. Porter will be back, the people want to see him fight.

@@p215j His dad still see’s him as his son and not a man because those post fight comments in the ring shouldn’t have been said even if that’s how you truly felt and it was ego driven. And leading up to the fight in the training a lot of what Kenny was saying to Shawn was ego driven. At the end of the day Shawn has to get in their and fight, it’s his body and if he feels his way is best win or lose you back him… Kenny be doing too much finger pointing when shit goes bad but wants all the praise when his son wins. And you could look at Shawn’s body language he loves his dad but he has had enough. Sugar Shane had to do the same thing, Floyd too

Fans are so weird man. That’s his father and fans still like to over step there boundaries and talk about shit as if your his best friend or some shit. If he was mad at his fathers decision it would’ve been obvious. Why the hell would his father lie about him not being focused in camp? He has nothing to gain from that. A trainer 99% of the time has all of the answers unless your Floyd mayweather lol he probably wouldn’t have stopped the fight if he knew his son trained properly. At the end of the day the same exact thing happened as what happened in the Errol Spence fight. The difference now is that Crawford was a much more dangerous fighter than Spence and he could’ve seriously ended up being hurt. The only future porter has is in the higher wait classes, no point in him challenging younger fighters like jaron ennis and getting beat even worse

This isn't a father thing. Wilders trainer threw in the towel in the second fight. It's their job to protect these guys

Completely different situation Deontay Wilder was getting destroyed in that fight he had no chance of winning in that fight even though he has that great knockout power he was completely incoherent and had been knocked down the multiple multiple times and he was definitely of danger of getting hurt Shawn Porter wolves very aware and coherent he was actually in that fight still even though he got knocked out he still in opportunity to possibly pull out a victory and proof of it that his father was going off is that the things that he said about his son after the fight

I commend Kenny for stopping the fight before it got really ugly in there but I also condemn Kenny for not allowing Shawn the opportunity to see if he could find a way... All of the greats been hurt but in that defying moment they made a choice that turned the tide. Shawn never had that opportunity because Kenny wasn't willing to see if Shawn could overcome the adversity in that moment.

@@michealjaymurphy I keep seeing this comment. Another trainer that weekend other than Kenny, Shawn is in the hospital with pictures all over the net of his son laid out cause Bud was about to do some damage to that boy. Good decision by Kenny. These fans don't care, Porter gets seriously hurt they'll post a comment saying "damn.... Etc" and get on with their lives

He did let him continue he got knocked down twice right? Crawford had Shawn retreating what don’t y’all get. He was going to get brutalized bud was not going to stop swarming him. He was hurt he started to just lunge with every punch trying to keep bud off him he was leaving huge holes for bud to crack him clean that’s why he got dropped twice. The man was on the canvas fumbling around he was hurt. His father did what he was supposed to do defend his son from himself. There was no coming back he was going to get taken out.

This was an unexpected announcement from Shawn but he already played his dues so this decision is well understood. He will be missed in the sport.

Huge respect for Shawn and Kenny Porter. Both should be very proud of the career Shawn had. He was a warrior and I am really glad to hear Kenny took care of him well and that he is financially set for a long time. That's how it should be if you give your life to this sport.

Nah I think he wanted to retire after that anyway...the comments by his father may have cemented it but I'm sure he was gonna retire regardless...I'm sure he ain't believe Crawford would knock him out so he would have been good with losing by decision and Kenny Porter should have let that happen
