He knows Crawfords as much as he knows his son as they matured in the ring together. He knew Shawn would be willing to go out on his shield with the pride he carries, that being said he knows the danger Crawford possesses if Shawn continued as he would, basically crawford is the better fighter always has been but Shawn has the heart

When you understand boxing it's not that wild bro. Bud had the skill advantage, the speed advantage, the power advantage. He pretty much had all the advantages. All Shawn could hope to do was hurt Bud which he didn't really do. At that point it's just a matter of whether Shawn could survive 12, but with Bud's power and Shawn's need to get on the inside to win, there was always the chance of Shawn getting stopped. His Dad knew that.

Funny how people are criticising a father/son relationship that they have no genuine experience of or such an honest relationship between father and son. Takes a real man to take his son to the heights of boxing and still remain in his life and career without being a ‘yes’ man, rather both of them have been stand-up gentlemen throughout. 💯

I actually thought before the fight Porters getting better every fight. Why retire (or be forced into retirement) when you are at your peak. If he hadnt got knocked down in the 10th and Crawford won those last three rounds, Porter may have still nicked it or, at worst it may have been a draw. You saw Crawford worried in the corner after the 9th ASKING THE JUDGES IF HE WAS AHEAD?! Surely this is not allowed and showed he was worried.

@@mightywhitey718 so when a fighter loses its the trainers fault? You make zero sense. Fighters know or should know how the sport of boxing works and how it is graded. If you need your trainer to tell you then you should not be boxing at the highest level. Fighters with father trainers doesn't work often in the sense that not everyone's father fights or knows the sport of boxing. Shawn porter is a perfect example of a boxer with unlimited potential, stopped and limited by his fathers ego. Ive seen it many times unfortunately in the boxing world, and why roy jones jr left his father as a trainer due to ego. You could tell Kenny CLEARLY did NOT believe his son could beat crawford, but i saw a really good version of porter the first couple rounds and actually had him ahead of crawford at a certain point. Nobody can want it more than you and when your trainer may have the same goal but is on a different page than things like this happen. Sad to see porter leave so soon. Not a good example at all. This was one fight. Shawn had a good career. All of his potential got him 2 world titles and classic fights with the best of the division. He always gave fighters hell and the fight of their lives. His dad didn't limit that. He helped get him there. This was likely Shawn's last fight either way. He was doin well but by nooooo means was be giving Crawford hell. Crawford by mid fight was doing as he pleased. Once he started tossin Shawn into the ring post head first and making him look foolish Shawn became his normal bullish self due to anger and perhaps a bit of competitive embarrassment. Bud was startin to get off on Shawn. Once Shawn became reckless and began lunging in as is second nature for him it seems, it was over. Crawford has the best IQ in boxing right now in my opinion. He continued to go to the body during the exchanges during the earlier rounds. Hard thudding shots to the body. A well timed uppercut in a later round at that point would be disastrous to a tired Shawn lunging in. That's exactly what happened. It was masterful work by Crawford. Porter was about to get knocked out bad. There was nothing he could do. His spirit was breaking. He has no power to stop Bud or hurt him so what could he possibly do at that point. His dad saved a horrendous knockout of his son. No fault in that. Shawn maxed out his potential last night

@joe power "unlimited potential" Shawn Porter is a phenomenal athlete, but only a pretty good boxer, his ring skills are pressure, mauling, amazing recovery ability (after both knockdowns Saturday night he freakishly willed his legs to work) and endurance, his Father has done a fantastic job of exploiting those skills in his son to the elite level and two world world titles! Oh by the way, you're delusional, he's been a pro for thirteen years with 36 fights! 290 amateur fights!

Porter has the best resume in boxing right now. He has fought ALL OF THE TOP GUYS and been in tough fights, not including sparring. He has fought Spence, Thurman, Broner, Brook (in his prime), Ugas, Garcia, Julio Diaz twice, Berto, Crawford, and he has fought guys in the amateurs who went on to be champs in higher weight classes. He has been in hundreds of fights and you can see he is kinda finished.

Porters father definitely did the right thing, he went down with a good shot, he was already taking a beating in that last round, then less than a minute later he was down again, he wasn't displaying any defense, it was definitely over, not only that his father said in training camp he was having a problem with defense, he's a great fighter, one of my favorite fighters, but with little to no defense, no boxer can stand in there, any other trainer would have let him get beat all up and possibly have to go to the hospital, shit he can go right home hug his wife, play with his kids, and get on Xbox and bask at that HOF career, If I was Kenny I wouldn't give a dam what nobody has to say, we were successful and we left healthy

Crawford was ahead on all 3 scorecards at the time of the stoppage. So no, he wasn't winning, and no he wasn't going to. Porter is a shining star who had a great career, fought everyone and is adored. He didn't need to get KO'd. His father knows him better than anyone. He just didn't have enough tonight. Now he gets to enjoy retirement from the ring, but we will see him working in the booth, calling fights.

Anybody who has an actual relationship with their son/daughter knows what the fuck it is. A lot of these so called fans would rather see people fight to the death rather than enjoy their health and family. Granted I feel like Kenny should've been private about the details, but Shawn definitely handled the situation with class and acceptance. Dude can hold his head up high: inarguably one of the top 3 resumes in modern boxing and a hell of an entertaining style inside and outside the ring. Sending my unconditional love and support to Shawn and his family.

I have to comment on Kenny's premature stoppage...it was ridiculous...I have trained fighters and been in the ring as a fighter and im also a father...Kenny thinks he knows everything about his son but he doesn't at all, that fight should have continued, porter was doing great, he wasn't hurt at all, just 2 back to back knockdown in the later rounds and that was nothing, fury was down twice in the same round in the wilder trilogy fight and still came back to win, and many other fighters have been thru worse situations in the ring and still came back to win at the end of the fight....this is boxing and its a physical combat sport Kenny, anything can happen at any time to change the outcome of the fight but your son was doing great the whole time until you stopped it...I totally disagree with your judgment of him...he dominated most of the rounds and put all the pressure on Crawford...Shawn needs to put his feet on the ground and start telling his pops how he really feels...he doesn't decide your destiny, you do...he is not on the big stage, you are!!!! Win, lose or draw, you make that decision for yourself bro..you did great and your father needs some serious life and boxing coaching lessons

Man i know u're frustrated, but Kenny knows his son better than us. As bis trainer and as his father. He knows how his son got prepared, and what he can endure. Two knock downs in the 10. There were still many times remaining in the round and knowing Crawford, it just would have been worst. Crawford was'nt slowing down and his the best finisher in this game. I think Kenny just spare unnecessary damage to his son. We just watch this from our safe place outside the ring, but those guys put their life in danger. We got excitement for 36min or less, but they can get injured for life. So... Please do not go too hard on the man

Couple issues: 1). Would we really not want a Corralis/Castillo possibility in the sport? 2). Do we not want the picture in our minds of Joe Goossen climbing thru the ropes and embracing his fighter? 3). Don’t we want to see if Shawn could hold and dance and survive a tough round? 4). Don’t we want to know if after surviving the round and getting instruction that his superior training gave him the ability to physically come back? 5). Wouldn’t we want to see if Bud gets careless when he knows his opponent is hurt and might get caught coming in? I know that Kenny likes to talk about having breakfast the next day and 1000 more breakfasts going forward…but I wonder if just one of those breakfasts Shawn might look at his dad and say “why didn’t you give me a chance?” Lastly if Kenny said that Shawn didn’t train properly…isn’t that on Kenny? I didn’t like the stoppage obviously for the above stated reasons.
