The Standing on the Shoulder of Giants period is such an interesting moment for Oasis. It’s like an extended hangover. Noel seems lost and unsure during every interview I’ve seen from this period while Liam’s trying his hardest to keep putting on the “loud rockstar who doesn’t give a fuck” act but it’s so clear that both of them know Oasis’ time as the biggest band on the world is pretty much done.

I don’t think your right about Liam he lived and breathed the rock star image he thought Oasis would go on and on but I agree Noel seems unsure of himself and lost, having children may have made him change his mind about the band lifestyle and the thought of going alone where he can please himself rather than the band starts to grow from about this time.

Remember Noel’s fighting with addiction issues. He started getting away from the Devils dandruff at this time & going through a very strained marriage then divorce within months of this interview & he was also on anxiety medication to get his head around being of the gear! It’s palpable watching him in 97 2000 then in 2002 he is such a different person by 2002. I agree he’s always very inconsistent in a lot of interviews around this period but he was just coming down from a 6 year massive bender which got bigger every year. ✌️👍✌️

He has all Irish family, Irish parents and spent his childhood going to Ireland, but was born in Manchester, so clearly he has a connection to both countries. After this he's stated during this period he was very uninspired about making music, he was in an unhappy marriage (with a newborn daughter) and had only in the last year or 2 gotten off drugs and changed his lifestyle a lot. He would still act all rockstar attitude arroant twat in front of the cameras a lot of the time but really he wasn't a happy chap and probably feeling quite shit in general. You can see here he's just having a chat going through the motions but not really putting on the oasis front.

The agreement for noel to be leader came from before definitely maybe they asked noel to be the manager liam talked noel into jamming with them. Also noel might have been the band leader but every oasis gig ive been to liam got the crowd going and was the crowds favourite by a massive margin they only chant noel after he sings a song.
