"If you talk to the English critics, they hate it; if you talk to the kids, they love it." That's, like, basically true of the consensus on _Be Here Now_ today. Always has been. It's always on these "worst of"s or "'jumped the shark' moments" lists, people talk like it was a total bomb, yet when you talk to just about any Oasis fan, they love it. Not _quite_ as good as the first two, but still so many brilliant songs.
@lucasm38795 ай бұрын
The Masterplan b-sides compliation was far stronger. That had a lot a lot of classic Oasis songs on that weren't even on the first two albums. There were still some good songs on Be Here Now, but about half of it it was a decline in quality, just an inferior version of their earlier output - Magic Pie, All Around The World etc. D'ya Know What I mean and Fade In Out are two great tracks imo, as is Stay Young, which was only a b side for some reason.

No mate, it got great reviews when it came out. And it was shite.

Had to laugh at his comments about never going solo and how he won't be 'pissing around with music at the age of 50 like Clapton'.

I'm a huge oasis fan and I'm very fascinated about oasis in 1998. It really was a changing point, the energy wasn't there anymore. They had reached the peak and were slowly going down. For the first time the drugs and the antics were bigger than the music.
@texaspete77489 ай бұрын
100%. By this point the whole britpop and “cool brittania” movement was in sharp decline. Most of the average bands faded out as people lost interest. Oasis were always bigger than that but by 98 the party was over.

Shortly after this interview, they did their first Australian Tour (March 1998) and he says he doesn't remember much about it. They were drunk most of the time and the tour in even his eyes was a disaster (they were class on their return in 2002 though).

@fredsystra75842 жыл бұрын
Noel is a self admitted ego maniac… I mean I’d probably be an ego maniac as well if my first 2 albums go platinum and I make 100mil from living on the dole. At this point in his career everything he did was great, he had the rock n roll world by the balls. The real hate for be here now wasn’t quite a thing yet at this point and Noel is at his peak drug use here…. He went cold turkey in the summer of 98’ a few months after the tour. I think after the tour is when it kinda set in for the band that the album wasn’t nearly as good as the first 2. Noel had some very very dark times in late 98 til 99… which lead to the lyrics being quite depressing on the following album “Standing on the shoulder of giants”

Noel talks alot of ball dont he..not gonna go solo...ya joking .....the older i get i see it all the time...as for me ...the first 3 albums... and the b side album are wicked...i loved be hear now as much as the first 2.... after that tho ... they didnt do much for me..became to predictable.......his solo stuff is ok ..but it dont get close in my eyes......same for liams solo stuff...the song once is good but the rest are average....but ill always be thankful for those 90s albums...i needed a band like that at the time ..after nirvana there was a hole....and they filled it for a few years for me. Early oasis with guigsy and bonehead ..great live band

Loved early Oasis, and loved the later stuff, but the "Be Here Now" era (as much as it was entertaining) - was a fucking shambles, that album is overproduced shit, the perfect example of what happens when you try and produce a record when your addicted to drugs, endless guitar solos, overdubbing, endless distortion, huge solos, overly long tracks, nonsense lyrics, it's the ultimate cautionary tale Lol.
@crashodeane7 жыл бұрын
Meatloaf's songs are 11 minutes long! To me, It's awesome that the BHN songs are very long because more Rock n Roll! guys say the same thing about Crash Bandicoot The Wrath Of Cortex, about the levels in that game being too long. Again that's not a bad thing because more platforming!
@john_the_boxer7 жыл бұрын
Owen Deane Did you really just compare an Oasis album to a computer game?
@aviation_sean98393 жыл бұрын
It’s such a bad album (by their 90s standards) that it’s fucking brilliant simultaneously 😂 I love be here now especially when I’m getting pissed or stoned, the only thing I still don’t like about it is the length of some of the tunes especially all around the world and D’yer know what I mean, they’re both too long!! But so bad it’s great 😂
