I find the idea of a limited (and looping!) world to be fascinating. It may seem bad at first, but then you discover the gateways into other worlds and realise it isnt so limiting. It somewhat reminds me of terraria as you can play multiple worlds with the same avatar, however these gateways may implement these worlds way better than simple menu screens Yes the art is shoddy at best, but im sure theyll update all the graphics for the full release. It seems unique enough to compete with minecraft, and if anyones gonna compete itll be 4J

On the other hand, I feel it's done poorly in Minecraft. I dont mind it being an upgrade but it sucks to get your only real alternative movement option at the end of the game.

@@tetros5265 I honestly think its fair, Minecraft is much more than only beating the ender dragon anyway. I think its the perfect late game item. And minecarts, boats and other transportation methods would be too fast obsolete if you could get it early.

REFORJ is a pretty good play on words. Re-4J, as in 4J is redoing everything after the original Minecraft console port FORJ, sounds like 4J added their studio's name into the game's name Forge, meaning something you can make yourself

I really love the building in the new engine! Mumbo's build is very impressive and really shows off a lot of the engine's capabilities. I hope that there are good RPG mechanics and progression too like terraria. That would complete the game for me

Toycat has singlehandedly got me excited for a game from a studio I had never heard of before this channel. I can't wait to see how Reforj turns out! Also it's cool to see how Minecraft has influenced (at least Mumbo's) approach to building in Reforj, notably building a roof with stair blocks even though slopes exist.

That's exactly what a prealpha is. pre alpha = game exists in a technical functional or playable state, most major features are not introduced. Graphics are basic for development.

This is one of the first minecraft "clones" that actually looks like it's doing things right. I feel like this game has a lot of potential even in it's early alpha. If I were to trust anyone to create good mechanics and well-polished games, it would be 4J. It's also interesting to see things from console bleed into this game, such as a minimap in place of your 'starter map' in console edition.

4J needs a better art direction. This game looks straight out of roblox and the character design is atrocious. The new technology is excellent, but the art needs so much work. Visual appeal can make or break a game. I see huge potential for this title given it's 4J making it, but the presentation, even if it's alpha needs to be appealing. I have no reason to play this when Minecraft has an appealing art style that doesn't have a clashing real life looking person running around in that world.

I think the whole cyclical limited world + gateways idea is absolutely amazing! I always get so paranoid about exploring in Minecraft because I don’t want to load in too many chunks for both file size and future updates I still hope they’ll allow us to reset unaltered chunks in the future so we can get new features in old worlds 🙏🏻😭

Something that I really 4J does to Rejorj is that more than 8 players can join the game. The ability to also create worlds and have anybody join similar to Fortnite or Bedrock would be great. Better multiplayer compatibility is a must in 2024.

Interesting! That reminds me of the old voxel terrain that Roblox removed about a decade ago. Before Roblox's new smooth terrain got forced into all games, there was something much like this: voxels scupled into blocks, slopes, inner corner slopes, outer corner slopes, etc. Now I can't wait to explore the potentially larger palette variety this game has to offer!

One thing that really needs an upgrade is the UI in general. This looks like the kinda default Roblox UI you get in like “Build to survive” type games. It needs to get its own personality just like Minecraft’s has.

Im very interested in how pvp and combat in general will be added. I really loved that about minecraft in minigames like the battle minigame. If there is no fun combat i would not be interested in buying this game but the building looks very fun

The player model is my biggest gripe. I also hope that there's a decent amount of progression into other realms, etc. because, as you stated, the wingsuit is unlocked early on, and the act of obtaining reaources seems vastly streamlined. So I hope that doesn't end up in me getting through content relatively quick. I get that's never the point of these types of games, but idk I just hope such concerns are addressed appreopriately. Looking forward to it :)

so they took popular minecraft mods and made it into a game. Not to be a hater or anything but I hope that they step away from showing off this game for awhile until they have an art style for the game down and most of the core systems down. The reason why is because most kids and teens don't care about following a project and waiting for it to get good or look good. They want fancy graphics from the start or full blown systems and functions from day one. I will say this game has a shot no doubt plus all of us who grew up with 4j's minecraft version ofc will want to see them rack in that sweet cash from this game. But showing your cards too early/game too early now and days can do more harm.

The building style is amazing! I like the way you can turn blocks into stairs or slabs just be clicking on an edge. One thing to note: As mentioned, this game is its own engine, so it can do all of this stuff. However, Minecraft is also its own engine (some people forget that) but the game is not coded in a way that allows such a unique building style. Its great to see that feature implemented in a way thats user friendly and leaves room for a lot more blocks without clogging the inventory.

I would love it if Minecraft added a Chisel tool that allowed for the player to sculpt a block in a similar fashion to how Reforj has done it. If the Chisel could remove 1/8 corner of the block, the blocks would still look "Minecrafty" but it would allow for the equivalent of a Vertical Slab, Sideways Stairs, and other really cool shapes. Minecraft will likely never have curves like Reforj, but I still think that Mojang can learn from this and implement this in Minecraft especially given that this mechanic exists in the game when they released the Cheese Block as part of the 2023 April Fool's Update. As for the rest of Reforj, it looks pretty good so far. I'll be watching intently to see where 4J takes this.

I do want this game to succeed, and I loved my time playing Xbox 360 Edition back in the day. That being said, this just doesn't appeal to me right now ☹️ I know it's in really early stages and has room to grow, and I hope it does! But at this point it's SO close to Minecraft - it's got a unique-ish style and some nice little gameplay tweaks, but so much can be accomplished with Minecraft modding, plugins, and texture packs. There are so many games like this - basically Minecraft with slight differences - that don't get any attention, and I feel this one is only getting so much attention because 4J is making it. Competing with the 15-year-old goliath that is Minecraft is really hard, and without major differences in design philosophy and direction, this seems like it will just be another small Minecraft clone, albeit with a slightly larger community due to the love for 4J. All that being said, I hope I'm proven wrong and this game really differentiates itself!

I can’t fully tell from the gameplay presented, but I do worry that they might make resource gathering too quick and efficient. One of the draws of minecraft survival is the fact that the things you make were all obtained through your own work. It’s what can make even creating a tiny dirt hut a satisfying experience for some players. Another concern is with access to gliding. Games that present it as an option can really struggle to present a proper counter to it, which can seriously affect how combat gets structured. If they want to have a PvP community or good PvE challenges, proper combat counters to flight need to exist. This world type is also quite cool for combat purposes, because enderdragon-type bosses now have an arena you cannot simply escape from. The art and sound are obviously going to take work, the engine has clearly been their main focus thus far

This is an EXTREMELY solid foundation and the tech can probably power tons of possibilities that the base minecraft can't do as well, I'm just worried about what the content of the game will be. I'm hoping they emulate terrarias progression and abilities as that plus this game engine would easily create one of the best sandbox games of all time.

9:04 actually it used to be possible, like starting a godbridge if you were to move backwards at the correct time, it would place a block underneath you. I remember doing this as a trap in servers like the hive and cubecraft with my friends

My criticisms of the game so far are mostly about aesthetics. The colors are too blown out, the textures don't match the shape of the blocks well, and all the blocks look exactly the same with just different textures, which is quite strange when it comes to the leaves on the trees, which look very solid. These three points together make the game very unattractive, uncomfortable to look at and to interact with when moving certain blocks out of place. My solutions to these issues are: - Slightly more sober colors and with more gradients; - Grass reliefs on the grass floor; - Bumps and gaps in the leaves of the trees; - A terrain break effect that affects the surrounding blocks so that corners don't form; - And block textures that are a little more detailed and more consistent with their shape.
