Yes, but mostly we are deeply associated with Krishna, Mahavishnu, Devi ( Amma ) , Mahadevan... We Celebrate Ramayana Maasam, goes to temple all that is right, but the North has more sentimental attachment to Rama than what we have in Kerala, that's true.Like, we may have a Devi, Krishna, or Mahadevan photo in almost every Hindu Homes in Kerala, but Raman photos in Pooja rooms wouldn't be as common as it is.. Whereas other states have Hanuman and Sita-Raman so common as their deity of worship than us.

Dravida nadu is actually the geographical Identity representing the south of the indic civilisat ion. Sanathan is same across this civilisation. Maybe south protected a more puritan form of temples & rituals as north had a very rough 1,000 yrs .Especially moghul period kings imposed sharia based traditions like covering head for women which became part of culture also they introduced persian , Turkish language and arabic script which us not seen much in south india.

Interesting interview. As a South Indian, I am unsure about the views expressed here that Sri Ram (Sri Raman as we call him) is not revered or worshipped as much in South India. There may be fewer temples of Sri Ram compared to Sri Krishna or Sivan (Mahadevan) and Devi for example in Kerala but the reverence for Sri Ram has always been on a very high level and that chant Hare Rama Hare Krishna echoes across the temples in the whole region and austerities are observed during special occasion during the year connected to Bhagwan Ram. I think people often confuse religious practices and rituals observed in different regions of India to gauge the level of devotion. Sri Rama is an integral part of Indian culture and civilisation and even that concept of "North-South" divide should not exist amongst us when it comes to matters of Sanatana Dharma because how can the Lord of the Universe be confined to a region on earth? I understand that there are people who talk in limiting terms but that is their small-mindedness and limited, literal understanding of spirituality. In some cases, politics takes precedence in such conversations. That causes all these erroneous conclusions.

My grandfarther used to tell me the Ramayana story. I am very emotional these days and tamil language is full of references to Ramayana. It is another giid example of how DMK's ideology is not congruent with tamil culture at all.

Becos you are comparing Sri Rama as the GOD in terms of Abrahmic conditions or idea .The goal of every hindu is eventually to attain divinity within and Sri Rama is ideal as he was radiating this divinity in his every action , word & life . We also seek a guru who can who will help us achieve this state , and deity like Sri Rama can help individuals in moksha hence he is a deity. Some seek living GURU to lead while majority seek deity . Lord Rama is not the deity that is worshipped in Rameshawaram. Lord Shiva is the deity of Rameshwaram. Its the place where Lord Rama worshipped to the Shivalinga before waging war with Ravana.
