Chandigarh: The Black Prince is a Hollywood movie based on the life of Maharaja Duleep Singh. The film by director Kavi Raj, starring Satinder Sartaaj and Shabana Azmi was released on Friday (July 21).

I listen the story of maharani zinda and Duleep Singh It was a story of Herat touching story.I remember my grandmother was weeping when she telling this heart breaking story. in order to read more about Maharajah Duleep Singh, i suggest reading a book "The Exile" by navtej sarna. Complete history of duleep singh in the form of novel. its worth reading.

I may or may not get the opportunity to watch this film at a cinema, but I look forward to enjoying it on small screen. Indian cinema is replete with 20th century history on the indian national movement (often shown as monolithic), but there is hardly anything on 19th century struggles except the 1857 mutiny. For the first time we are seeing a cinematic portrayal of 19th century Sikh history. This is a great effort by Raz, and I would encourage film producers like him to make more films promoting the Sikh heritage. I personally would like to see a film on 19th century religious reform movements - the origins of the Singh Sabha and the Arya Samaj movements and their conflicts. I doubt however that it would be as visually pleasing as The Black Prince

Correction of the previous comment about Sophia: Princess,Sufferagette, Revolutionary written in English by Anita Anand on the life of one of the daughters of Maharaja Dalip Singh is a must read book. It has all the elements of a very good film on the subject that will shame the British style of going to any length, including breaking of written agreement with the Lahore government.

What a brilliant analyst S Ajmer Singh is, to be sure! Loved the discussion. I have to be honest, I saw the Punjabi version and was not that impressed as it appeared to be very stilted and felt editing was to be blamed. English version sounds much better as Punjabi dubbing made it unnatural. In spite of all this I feel that all people of Indian origin/background should see this. For only then they will realize Sikhs Raj was not conquered but stolen. And of course our Sikh traitor brethren are also to be blamed. I was educated in England, nobody taught us this part of our history! Excellent interview!

I agree with S. Ajmer Singh.Also,Cut-surd youth is very confused.As they look at their grandparents then they look at themselves they cannot relate their-self to sikh people.Also they are not hindus. So they stuck in middle somewhere and try to fill the emptiness by appreciating their casts..like jutts,chamar,ghumar etc.Also youth in punjab/india is struggling with basics like employment.so his/her decisions on religion becomes secondary thing.
