Aww, Memo this was such a special episode showing us where you grew up and where you got the joy of admiring plants. I loved all the beautiful greenery everywhere there and I couldn't tell it was still winter time. I am curious why you chose to live in the UK and not Greece or Cyprus? Thanks for giving the older generation credibility of just intuitively knowing on repurposing old milk jugs and it all works. They always thought outside of the box and things just worked out for them. I feel as though some of the younger generation have a lot of ego talking about their longest lived plant they have and it's thriving and it's 3 years old for heaven's sake. I'm almost 68 and most of my plants are older than them :))
@Houseplantygoodness7 ай бұрын
Such a heartfelt message, Jackie! I chose the UK for new adventures, but the Mediterranean will always be home. 🌿❤️ And yes, wisdom often comes with age and experience! and of course I know what you mean 3 years is a drop in the ocean, some of these plants in families have been going on for decades, which makes them all the more special 💚💚💚

Thanks for the tour Memo! Such gorgeous plants 😊 I think the cactus @23:04 is a Dancing Bones cactus (Hatiora salicornioides). They start as a compact bush form but grow stems and trunks like your mom's as they age.

.. Wow, that was awesome.. Thank you so very much for the tour around your Parents plants and their adorable Julie.. I had no idea what my crown of thorns would end up like some day😳 I love that bugger, but holy cow Mrs. Memo's are huge.. 🤗18.44 is a very thirsty Peace Lily.. 23.06 is a succulent, Euphorbia Tirucalli (commonly known as Indian tree spurge, naked lady, pencil tree, pencil Cactus, firestick, avaloz or milk bush). It is native to Mocambique, Africa and the milk is poisoning, when it "blooms" it has tiny green leaves all over.. The monstera leaves are as big as weekend bags 😳😁 wow.. .. I love love Syngoniums and Mrs. Memo's are absolutely gorgeous..They actually look like the white butterfly, as it will naturally look like when living in the shade where it prefer to be.. And the Spider plants are beautiful, and very happy too ☺️ .. Living in Denmark i really envy your parents sunny blue sky from the balcony 🌞🤗

Nice to have a tour of your parents plant collections, I can see where your love of plants comes from. My mum was also a huge plant grower too! I’m 56 and got my first plants when I was 19. I have 2 plants still with me from that time still thriving a Ficus elastics tinneke that’s 37 and a Scheffler that’s 36.

@@jackiewhitney5031 Both plants have been cut back several times, the tinneke hit my ceiling numerous times. I also took 3 cuttings from it one of which I passed onto my daughter just as my mum did with me with cuttings from her plants. The schefflera is currently 4 foot but is prone to scale and has been cut back hard twice. Both plants spend the summer out in my garden and love it!

Wow, Thanks for sharing your parent's home and plants. I can relate to the old way people would get around to doing things. Most of what I've learnt came from my dad. He would just stick cuttings straight into soil, or into the ground. And to some extent I tend to do things that way. I do switch back and forth new way too. It all depends. If it works, why not? Sometimes doing it the simple old fashioned way is all that is needed. It doesn't have to be so involved. I live in Southern California... Yuccas and birds of paradise live out doors as do the cacti. I guess it is similar weather here. The ficus I choose to grow are fig fruit trees -F. Carica so there is that. Haha. I enjoyed this episode. Two thumbs up!

I loved the tours of your parent's plants Such beautiful places and the plants are huge.😍 As for us oldies, I have to say that I still learn a lot more about plant care from books, handed down knowledge, and good old trial & error, than I do from Dr. Google. The information is much more reliable, no matter when the book was written. I have books from the 1960s right through to very recent, and to be honest, the care advice really doesn't differ an awful lot. There's been more reclassification of plant genuses than there has been changes in plant care tips 😂 Thanks for sharing and I do hope your father is faring much better 🙏
