That was some video. A lot of work went into it and a lot of good information. I will have to watch it again so i can write down some of the veggies you are trying plus the ones that have worked for you. I think i will go with the peas this year also. I usually grow the pods to add to stir fries but the shelling peas sound interesting and i have a great trellis for them. The early jersey wakefield cabbage is one of my favorites. Love the shape. I will also try some of your other suggestions after i watch it again. Florida Gardener (Citrus County) Zone 9a Hi neighbor!

I didn’t think I liked radish either until I had them in France. They toasted them like potatoes and were amazing! They also sliced them like coins, spread butter on them and sprinkled with salt. Fabulous and not a bit spicy. Try these two ways before giving them away. Also the trombocino squash starts as a summer squash but will store all winter and turns orange like a butternut. It’s amazing They are 3’ long! I still have some from a year ago that are fine

I enjoy your channel - it's nice to see content that applies to my zone and climate (I'm in North Florida). Wanted to let you know I was really excited to try out that Seed time app, but they immediately bombarded me (before even letting me look around at the tools) to upgrade to a paid account. I was never able to even get in, even though I sat through the multiple videos, because I wouldn't click the upsell button. Just wanted to make you aware....it might be a great tool - it looked pretty cool when you showed it - but I'd like to at least have a test drive before I decide to pay for any bells and whistles. Worst case scenario, I go back to UF/IFAS for help with planning and organizing my garden. And continue to enjoy the information you share. Thanks!

I don’t really like radishes either but I found a way to make them where I like them. I quarter them and roast them like herbed potatoes and have them as a side dish. They are really good with rosemary and thyme and garlic. I was quite surprised how much I enjoyed them that way and all the spice was gone. I also like them sliced and cooked in with meat as a kind of scalloped “potato” hash as well. Also surprisingly good and I liked the texture as well. So maybe you might like them after all? ☺️😉You never know right? Also if they bolt, the seed pods are edible in salads and aren’t as spicy either. Who knew they were so versatile? 😁 Also, I think you’ll enjoy the Tromboccino squash. I grow it every year, it gets huge, tastes very good and if you let it mature can last and cure like a winter squash. I’ve also never had any pest issues with it! It does vine everywhere though so keep that in mind! It’s also called zucchini Rampicante and that’s because it’s rampant with its vining lol.

Maybe, one day, they will create "variable terracing" garden beds. As an example, an 8 foot garden bed that comes in two, 4 foot sections: the height of each section can be raised or lowered by means of a lever or hand crank (like jacking up a car). That way, your tall plants don't shade out the short ones.

Patrina...after spending all day in the 90 degree heat here on the east coast of central Fl, all I thought about was coming in and watching this video AGAIN! I literally had to rip out 75% of my plants in my raised beds due to poor planning. I felt like I just wanted to call you and cry! Okra, Eggplant, Cowpeas, Zinnias, Basil etc. I didnt take the time to do what you did in this video and man...did I learn my lesson. So many of those plants were leggy, and shaded out by each other. I am sitting here now with my 2023 Wild Floridian Garden Planner and ready to take notes and PLAN my fall garden.

Wow! Petrina! So much work, and more great information! I will drag out my seeds and get down to the business of really narrowing down what has to be grown in the fall. But the summer garden is still going, including eggplants, sweet potatoes and tropical greens. Thai Red Roselle has proven much more resistant to aphids, and though they have not flowered yet, I think I will have enough calyxes to think about dehydrating for tea (I don't want to say 'jam' cause I don't want to jinx myself) so thats two containers that will not be available until winter. Lots to think about. Start with the big rocks....LOL, thanks for keeping it real.

Petrina, I love your channel. I dream of moving to Florida to garden all year so I’m making a file of all the varieties that work for you. You mentioned that you don’t like to keep alcohol in the house because you once had a problem with it. I kind of do to. I’m great all day, but then cooking dinner is a big trigger for me. Do you have any tricks or tips if you dealt with dinner time triggers? I try to prep dinner earlier in the day to avoid that, but my schedule doesn’t always allow me to do that Thanks so much
@HomegrownFloridaZ9a
@HomegrownFloridaZ9a Жыл бұрын
My trigger was dinner too. The first thing I did was stop keeping any alcohol in the house. I ordered my groceries for pick up or delivery rather than shopping to keep me from walking past those aisle. I bought cherry limeaid soda and maraschino cherries to make a mocktail to drink with dinner. I also made commitments to not drink for a day/week/month and eventually that became a year and it became much easier. It takes time but it is possible and give yourself grace. Perfection is hard to achieve so aim for progress.
