We're playing a Half-Life Cut content recreation mod, Half-Life: Absolute Zero, with one of the original level designers from Valve Software, Brett Johnson. Mr. Johnson worked at Valve from 1996 until 1999, and was responsible for most of the design of Anomalous Materials, Unforeseen Consequences, Surface Tension, the multiplayer map Stalkyard, among many other things. We play through his sections of this recreation mod, judging it's accuracy, and telling stories of what Valve was like back in the 90s.
This one is special, thank you Brett.

So amazing to read the comments here. You guys are awesome! Some notes: "Named the game" - 😆 in a roundabout way, yes. It's not like I walked in and said "hey everyone, here's the name!" 🤦‍♂ @1:55 The guy circled is actually Dario. (I'm the guy with the black shirt and folded arms above Mark and Kelly.) I didn't do the office complex (I believe those were largely John's levels) IIRC, In the final game I did pre and post labs, most of the topside most of the alien world, Stalkyard and TFC The Hunted. Keep in mind, most, if not all, levels were touched by multiple designers at some point.

Every bit of editing you did to clarify which person was being talked about or explaining what a certain term means; this is a really special video for any Half-Life or Valve historian fan; truly well done. 11:45 That is one of the things I find especially amazing about Valve. All their employees are able to do something. Even Marc Laidlaw made maps for HL2 during its devolopment and he is just a writer. Also, I just noticed: he is wearing a Black Mesa shirt. Absolutely lovely.

I am wondering if it's possible to do the same thing with other HL devs, maybe even HL2 and the episodes. Information on behind the scene development is always something I am ready to hear and watch. And with Half-Life, it could even lead into making amazing mods based on these developers info. Maybe I am asking much, but you think you can get in touch with other developers and designers Tyler? I know this sound silly of me, yet no harm is asking, right?

Interesting to see the thought process and evolution behind some aspects, like the hallway details just being a spontaneous thing, "Oh, that guy did that" or the chair animations and it having a long-term lasting impact on the games legacy and its atmosphere.
