It is even MORE impressive a feat of the Empire when you consider that the Death Star was designed by the Geonosians before the Clone Wars even started. You could argue that the Second Death Star was 100% Imperial, but they’re just iterating on the first one. It was bigger, had a much faster cool-down timer between shots, and made a point of getting the super laser online first. And was designed such that when it got inevitably destroyed, the wreckage looked exactly like the dagger from Ep IX, and arranged it so that piece would crash onto a different moon, land with the right side up, fall on a part of the moon so it was still visible, etc.

To be fair, it had already taken a lot of damage (at least one engine was out, probably two or three, it had exchanged broadsides with multiple ships, it's shield generator was destroyed, etc). But yes, it suffered the common problem of large imperial capital ships, trench run syndrome.

As jay said, it was a perfect storm for the ship. Once the bridge lost control with the A-Wing, the secondary bridge and engineering stations didn't have enough time to regain control to stabilize the vessel before it crashed into the DS2. In all reality, had the Empire not got into knife fighting range with the Rebels, they would have easily decimated them with the firepower of the SSD.

I think the problem was that it was too close to the Death Star. The loss of the Bridge meant that, for some reason, it got pulled into the Death Star's gravity well, and they were unable to get the secondary Bridge up in time and pull the ship out in time. I think it was mentioned in a book or a comic (retcon 🤪) that Admiral Piett had placed the ship too close to the Death Star.

All that craft and design and a single A-Wing takes one out. There is an older cgi fan film single shot of the battle of Coruscant where the SSD Lusankya literally emerges from under the Senate buildings and hyperspace jumps within the atmosphere. It's an amazing video

You should not forget that that one A-Wing only gave the final blow... the Executor took very heavy damage from the complete rebel fleet before that. AND the Executor did not attack during that battle...only defend...because the emperor gave that specific order in his megalomania.

It does, it has several auxillary bridges, it's just it had taken on too much damage by then to be of use. The part you didn't see is that they continued to fire on it even after they had taken out the main bridge, it didn't sustain all that aft damage from just the bridge being destroyed. This dealt critical damage to the death star in fact, this was a devastating attack in many ways. There are lots of things that they never mentioned in the movies that other media has covered.

If you notice they did start evacuating the death Star before they had blown the reactor, this was because of damage from the SSD. The hanger bay explosion was from this, it wasn't from the reactor explosion.

A bit too repetitive with the AI-based description on the technical breakdown. Though it could be interesting to use this model to create some stories of how a Super Star Destroyer handles different political and military encounters. These kind of technical breakdowns are fun, but create an uncomfortable distinction between lore and what is seen in the movies. The battle for Endor, lore-wise should've been a complete and total victory for the Empire. The Death Star popping off capital ships, and ISDs with this SSD flanking the rebels with superior firepower, there's now way the rebel fleet should've been able to survive when looking at the military advantage the Empire had according to the technology lore. However, what we see is the rebel fleet able to survive bombardment and then pop off ISDs and able to completely surround and destroy the SSD in seemingly a matter of moments. I love the "idea" and aesthetics of Star Wars and its technology, but its implementation in the movies doesn't hold up to all the hard work lore-makers have put into this universe.

There's a class of ship from the Star Wars Expanded Universe called the Viscount-class Star Defender. It was the New Republic's version of the Executor. I hope you decide to do a video on it

Remember, this is the same Empire that inherited the military-industrial complexes of BOTH the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy, and according to various sources, they had control over around 1.5 million developed worlds and 69 million smaller colonies. As for how these ships were built, that's what planets like Kuat, which had a giant artificial ring around it dedicated to making ships, were for.

What is that ship going behind Cloud City on Bespin? It must be bigger than an SSD because Cloud City is the same size in diameter and this was from behind it. I've never seen any info on this ship type though, it literally looks like a first order variant of an SSD. Meaning that it's about 3/4ths bigger if we're going by the Resurgent class, somewhere in the 35 kilometer range.

The simplest explanation of that particular ship is that it was an animation/continuity error, but from an in-lore perspective, it likely was the FO's equivalent of a more "standardized" SSD, not quite as large or comprehensive as the Supremacy (which would be a one-off ultra-prototype mobile HQ with all sorts of unique aspects and technologies on it) , but which could have been built in very small numbers to act in a similar operational role, that being a mobile HQ ship with massive amounts of centralized command & control capabilities, as well as the space for capital ship construction and maintenance. The class could have been designed as a command ship for each Oversector, and assuming the FO's campaign to conquer the galaxy actually succeeded, more and more would be built until there was one for each sector. That seems like a reasonable long-term goal, to have a mobile HW and shipyard for each standardized sector fleet (or whatever scale they would have assigned one to oversee) whose main purpose was to optimize the actions of the sector fleet and other local forces, only getting into direct combat as a last resort and primarily for defense and power projection over strategic areas the FO would want defended. Granted, this is all just my headcanon for such a ship, but I tried to have it make sense from the FO's internal logic.
