I agree with #1. The raw emotion that night was unreal. From Russel Martin throwing the ball off of Shin Soo-Choo's bat to Jose's bat flip. Also, remember there was bad blood between these two teams. They hated eachother. Even when watching from my garage, you could feel the electricity. I cant even imagine what it was like inside that building. Then, Bautista goes deep, and 23 years of frustration, anger and disappointment are released all at once with a collective explosion of emotion. "I'd rather be punched in May then knocked out in October". Classic. One of the greatest moments I have ever experienced in sports.

As a Diamondback fan, I have to state my case that #4 should be #1 instead, especially given the gravity of the situation. The Yankees were in the middle of their "winning the World Series every year" streak, and September 11th happened so the world felt bad for New York and wanted them to win. Oh yeah, it was against one of the best closers of ALL TIME, Mariano Rivera!! The Diamondbacks were essentially just a ragtag team of players at the time in their 3rd year of existence! Oh did I mention the crowd was absolutely amazing? The stadium ran out of beer in like the 5th inning... which is highly impressive given that they stockpiled for the world series, haha. Overall, it seemed like the stars and planets had to align just right in order for the D-backs to win over the behemoth that was the Yankees during that time period.
@reidminto5116 жыл бұрын
I'm an Astros fan so I think I can look at these top 5 fairly objectively, and have to say you're 100% spot on here. The Yanks vs. Diamondbacks 2001 World Series 9th inning comeback should be #1 by a significant margin. You already listed the reasons why - I mean the baseball significance alone - a rally in the 9th inning of a game 7 World Series - come on that's as clutch as it gets, and as baseball fans we dream of such an exciting situation occurring. Add to that the historical significance you mentioned - we're only about a month and a half past 9/11. Also it was right smack dab in the middle of the dominant reign of the NYY - who probably had 2x the payroll of the Diamondbacks here. The videos chosen seem to me to be a "top 10 comeback innings of the century" - not "greatest". #6 was just so historic as well I feel like it should have been much higher, at least top 3 or 5. And - here's my Astros bias obviously - I think it was weird not to have one of the innings from the 2017 World Series Game 5 - the fourth inning for starters was crazy, and this inning basically cements Kershaw's postseason reputation (seeing the dodgers now + kershaw's age it would take some pretty wild happenings to undo this). The 7th inning of this game 5 is another obvious choice, so is the 9th inning (the 10th inning was one of the greatest walkoffs ever but overall inning probably not a good choice). For overall greatest games this century (we all have different definitions of great - some think significant, others may think wild/crazy with lots of lead changes, some think quality of baseball played e.g. great pitcher's duel mixed with high quality offense in a 3-2 or 4-3 game, etc.) - but I have to think the Diamondbacks vs Yankees 2001 World Series game 7 has to be #1, and the Astros game 5 should be top 3 or 5.

HM candidate. 9/6/16 SD v LAD Padres score 3 in the 9th to take a 4 run lead. 9-5. Dodgers hit 4 consecutive homers in the bottom half to tie. SD scores 1 in the 10th and Nomar wins it with a two run blast. C'mon. Bottom 9 and you go HR, HR, HR, HR? Amazing.

It’s still wild to me how loud/numerous the Cubs fans were in Cleveland, we truly are everywhere!
@MickeyKraut4194 жыл бұрын
Nah... you just had a lot of Clevelanders shamefully prove themselves to be mediocre fans by selling their Game 7 tickets at absurd prices to all the Cubs fans willing to buy them. Born and raised in Northeast Ohio... trust me... the Greater Cleveland area has pretty much no love for the Cubs... or Bulls, or Chicago in general.

ThePittsburghKid22 I'm a blue jays fan seeing haap struggling is making me rage and he's an all star and Blake snell didn't but since Corey kluber is injured he's going to the all star game and the red sox have beets who is hitting over .350, J.D Martinez who has 29 homers, 80 RBI AND a great .320 and other people who are batting .282 and before that game he was 10-6 with a 4.44 ERA and blake snell was 12-4 with a ERA that I don't know it's just the red sox have a stacked team that should win the world series

The honorable mentions were better than the most of the one's you chose. I'm more impressed with a team being able to come back from 5 or 6 down in the last inning than to come back from 1 or 2 down in the playoffs.

I remember being at school and the teachers kept updating the score on game 4 of the 2015 Alds between the astros and royals. We were all so happy thinking they were gonna win. At carline they told us the royals had scored two. At home I saw them fall apart. The city of Houston was so upset with Correa, but I blame Will Harris for the lost. Had we not lost that game, we may have never won the World Series.

I remember being at my very first job at work that day during that game. I remember checking in on the score periodically at my desk throughout the afternoon until it seemed hopeless, then I stopped checking and focused solely on working. Soon enough, everyone was huddled around a fellow worker's workstation where he was livestreaming the game (video and audio) on his main computer screen across the office. I went over to see what all the commotion was about, and sure enough, the Royals were in the middle of making an incredible comeback! I was very surprised, to say the least, but happy at the eventual outcome. Of course, we ended up going all the way that year and winning for the first time in thirty years. Woo! ^-^ I will say in that, in retrospect, Houston was by far our toughest opponent in the playoffs that year. Winning that critical Game 4 was essentially like a microcosm of winning the World Series later, since it was the best comeback of the entire postseason for us that year. Glad to see you guys finally feel what it's like to win one too last year (for the first time ever, no less). Can you repeat again this year? It was hard enough for us to SHOW UP twice in a row. It's really tough, but the way you guys can play when it matters most (like we did in 2015), I'd say you certainly have a shot! Perhaps you'll even get another chance at "punishing" the Yankees and/or Red Sox again like you did last year along the way... heh heh! ;-) Beware the Sox, though: they seem like the real deal this year. Only time will tell!

2001 WS and 2016 WS had better moments. Could probably find more than one Red Sox vs Yankees inning as well. 2005 White Sox vs Angels? Well maybe they weren't better but still. The circumstances surrounding the first two and the Red Sox vs Yankees rivalry plus it being the playoffs? Greater.

Bautista's histrionics in an ALDS game that's merely in the 7th inning gets #1? Over Arizona's 9th-inning, Game 7, World Series comeback vs the greatest relief pitcher in MLB history? Over the Cardinals TWICE coming back from 2-run deficits? Over the Bartman-ball inning? Over the Red Sox coming back from the dead vs Rivera on the heels of the most important stolen base in MLB history? Over basically any other inning in this video? Because a guy threw his bat? I watched that game. It was stupid then, and it's stupid now. So is having that inning at #1. But great job compiling this. That was a lot of work. Very well done. Other than the final ranking, excellent job.

As a Cardinals fan, I recall the bottom of the 9th in Game 6 as more highly regarded than the bottom of the 10th. It was so unexpected, given the flow of the game. Id say both of those innings deserve to be mentioned at least. As for the number 1. It was a heck of a "pop" of the crowd. But it was the DS. Just not as high leverage as the WS games.
