hey! i hope this video gives some of you some comfort or insight into how difficult movement can be both mentally and physically, especially when a disability or health condition gets in the way 🌟
obviously this is just my outlook on exercise and my personal experience with FND and Tourette's, therefore don't take this as the only way to approach things or the only way disability can look ❤️ everybody is different and you will all have your own unique routines that will fit your life best :)

Tourette's syndrome is a neurological condition and disability which causes involuntary movements called tics. I use my platforms on social media such as TikTok, KZbin and Instagram to advocate and raise awareness for the condition and show what it is like living with a disability as a teen in school.
My name is Zara Beth (zeezee25 on tiktok) and I post videos about tics, tic disorders and what its like to be a teen living with Tourette's syndrome, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and a seizure disorder (NEAD/NES).
I show what its like having tics and Tourettes in class and in school and college, vlog, and I also bake, do other challenges and answer all your questions in Q and A videos.
I am also an ambulatory wheelchair user so I show what life looks like using various mobility aids and how needs change from day to day!
I am also a musician! My newest release is my first single (original song) called "She's Mine" which is now available on all streaming services - I sing and play piano, guitar, ukulele and I write, produce, mix and master all my own songs and content myself!

Can confirm, Just Dance is one of my favourite almost-exercise activities to do when I'm struggling with mobility. Even if I'm just half-assing it or just doing the arms, it's so fun and it makes me feel so much better than just sitting and doing nothing on days where I'm struggling. (Not that there's anything wrong with doing nothing, but I just don't like feeling unproductive.)

Exercise is also a huge stress reliever if your going through stress or like you said even a nice walk outside I used to hate exercising but knowing how I feel afterwards makes it worth it even on the days I don’t want to I’ll just simply do like fitness marshal or something that’s still movement and it truly changes my mood! I also have a autoimmune disease makes me so damn tired but as weird as it sounds I’m more tired when I don’t workout but def agree with you hope your well girl 🤍

I am very much an all-or-nothing type person and diet and exercise are hard nuts for me to crack because of chronic pain (and other crud). If I can't do it perfect, 100% of the time, it doesn't happen. I think I'll listen to this vid on repeat for a while. Thank you! You've taught an old dog a new trick. :)

"You just have to do with when you feel good. If you do it when you don't feel good, it's not gonna go well and then it's going to make you hate the thing. I've realized this the hard way. If you force yourself to do it, you're never gonna want to do it, and it's not gonna feel good, you're not gonna get the benefits. You have to do it when you want to do it so that it makes you feel good. There's no point in doing something if it's gonna make you miserable. If you can't do it, it doesn't work in your lifestyle, don't do it - find something else. There's always another option that you can do, so just so what fits you." These are some solid words of wisdom right here, I wish medical professionals had this level of insight. I'm not physically disabled but I have a very bad relationship with sports because I was always in pain during PE classes growing up (and even just outside classes, just walking around a mall for hours without end when my family wanted to go shopping was a nightmare) and my teacher wouldn't believe me because the doctors could never find the origin of my pain, so she's tell my mom I was just "attention seeking" or coming up with excuses not to have to exercise in her class. After over a decade of no longer being in school and not having to deal with PE classes, I was still not doing any exercise because I was too scared to even try, even though a lot of time had passed, I still remembered the pain and wasn't eager to put my body through that experience again. It took me a very long time to start trying to do even very simple and basic things like stretching or going for walks and I still don't do more than the bare minimum because it was a very traumatizing experience. And yet, because depression is one of the things that I also struggle with, my therapist keeps pushing for me to "just exercise more". I understand that, from her point of view, she has a bunch of scientific studies that say exercise helps with depression but, like you so beautifully put it, if you're gonna force yourself to do it and hate every second of it, you're not actually going to get any benefit from it. I do sometimes exercise or dance or go for walks and feel great about it, because I'm doing it on my own terms and only when I'm in the mood. When I try to force myself to exercise because of someone else's expectations for me, exercising doesn't make me feel better, it makes me feel worse. It's great to have science as a guideline but I wish therapists and medical professionals in general were a bit better at adapting to the person in front of them instead of prescribing the same thing to everyone.

@Zara_Beth I would love for you to do a video on your FND. I was recently diagnosed with the same and I am really struggling with it and struggling with being stuck in this dang chair! There aren’t any doctors around me with any kind of knowledge base around it and am having troubles finding any answers or much for ideas of how to get better. Please help!

Hye! I also have Tourette’s - tics can absolutely happen when eating or drinking, but don’t tend to happen when sleeping. It’s like any other movement - if you’re sleeping lightly, you might move around (tics can happen), but when deep asleep, you don’t move so much (tics don’t happen)

I always hated exercise- I used to go to a kids gymnastics club and I really enjoyed that but I just stopped progressing and got bored. I wish I'd carried on cause now I can barely walk sometimes with chronic pain and hypermobility messing me over. I really want to get back into it but it's so hard to stay motivated and stay mobile when everything hurts. I'm trying to get more active by doing old gymnastics tricks I can still do (not alot 😅) but I've been trying and that's what is important I think

Hiya Zara :) Have you ever tried Qi Gong? It's a form of tai chi, which is slow movement, similar to yoga :) You might like it, if you haven't tried it maybe give it a try sometime. (I mention it only so you have another option to add to your repertoire for exercise if you hadn't heard of it.) Have a beautiful day/night when you get around to reading this. Lots of love
