I had my surgery 5 years ago at the age of 15 and it was a huge success , it lasted 10 hours . I just wanna say to scoliosis patients don’t be ashamed of your body before or even after the surgery and believe the surgery helps a lot it’s a little challenging to keep a flexible body after it but with everyday exercise you can do it 😊.

I'm dealing with the same problems as anot4her commenter: 5 years since surgery at 21 y/o and lately the pain in my lower back and especially shoulders has increased greatly. Sitting at my desk too much and unaffordable gym subscriptions are probably the biggest culprits. Having a set of exercises I can do in a few minutes is very helpful and just using the muscles is already making the pain subside a little in the short term. I am curious to see what it will do in the long run. Thank you Align Therapy and most of all thank you Emerson!

@AlignTherapyUtah Жыл бұрын
Not a specific bad outcome. The levels above the fusion can wear out faster. To prevent that, keep your back strong!

My daughter had a c-curve (40 degrees to the right) and was operated a couple of years ago at 13 years of age. She had a VBT surgery which enables her to do everything like bending, twisting and even sports just like normal children and Emmerson has been her inspiration ever since she saw this video. But there are a few remnants of that curve which are very minor. Is there still a way to fix that? We are from India.
@AlignTherapyUtah4 ай бұрын
For a curve that isn't fused that is above and below the fusion, I would do Schroth. If it is within the fusion, it is set.
@ingridramirez4436Ай бұрын
I had the same 40% and I still had very little till to the right still. The first time of surgery one screw got broken. I was very much in pain. This year just on 7/19/24 I had my second surgery Now I am straight. Just 2 months ego and I am just fine Hopefully you daughter is doing ok.

Can we add some rotational components to some exercises? TIA
@AlignTherapyUtah2 ай бұрын
Usually after fusion surgery I wouldn't add rotational components until they had been out a year. It is more stressful on the spine.
@lexohey47185 ай бұрын
I had my surgery less than two months ago my spine (lumbar)was fused from l4 to T10, the surgery took 3 hours and was a success (I’m almost 17 btw ) Please clarify what do u mean by the unfused part will wear out quicker ?? Thanks a lot overall informative video.
@AlignTherapyUtah5 ай бұрын
Because the fused area doesn't move, there is more stress above and below it. This makes the joints and discs have more wear and stress and they tend to have more degeneration later in life. It happens with all fusions.

Surgery should be the LAST option. Bodywork, especially for the tight erector spinae, and whichever quadratus lumborum is too tight do wonders to relieve scoliosis.

Sometimes it is necessary with curves that are progressive. Manual therapy can help but PSSE is really the only thing in the research, along with bracing, that helps stop progression.
