Could you give a proper incentive why a scoliosis patient would choose to have to do these laborious exercises for the rest of their life when they can just get their scoliosis corrected and aligned with surgery?
@AlignTherapyUtah6 ай бұрын
@@education7281 great question. Usually surgery goes well, but sometimes it doesn't. If we don't need the risk then great!

@@AlignTherapyUtah yeah most of the time the patients are happy after surgery and their pain is alleviated. With the results this high and reliable why not just recommend your patients for the operation, it is better done when they are young? Have you encountered times that it didn't work out with your patients, if so please explain the downsides/consequences experienced. I'd also like to know what you think when adults over age 35 undergo the scoliosis operation, does it generally go as well as with teens in your experience when it comes to pain relief and complications?
@AlignTherapyUtah6 ай бұрын
@@education7281 over 35 it doesn't usually go as smooth. Definitely have have a good outcome but recovery is harder. The reason I dont recommend the operation until they get to 45 is there are complications I have seen like infections, hardware issues, etc that I would like to avoid if possible. Also, surgery isn't indicated until 45 degrees anyway. The research is not showing as much need before that to limit progression. Most surgeons I know don't even consider it till 45 in kids. If they suggest it at lower than that, I would be wary.
@education72816 ай бұрын
"over 35 it doesn't usually go as smooth. Definitely have have a good outcome but recovery is harder. " Could you explain in what you mean not as smooth for surgeries over age 35? Do you mean that they dont resolve their pain and discomfort as well? Also with the surgicsl complications you see with your patients like harware issues, neurologic issues and infections, do they often resolve after pt or revision surgery or is the patient just left worse off than had they not had surgery? If surgeries are only presribed to patients over 45 deg due to a probability of a low risk of complications, but how about those with pain/discomfort and sitting tolerance and fatigue issues with their scoliosis? Cant they have surgery to address those issues alone even if their curves are not large enough knowing there is no correlation between curve size and pain

@remionno54613 жыл бұрын
Probably to prevent the curve from getting worse and possibly reduce the curve a little. I did schroth physiotherapy for 3 years and used a back brace. It reduced my curve! :)

It does NOT straighten the spine.

Do you recommend doing unilateral back excerices if there's a muscle imbalance caused by the scoliosis or focusing primarily on correcting the spine curvature first?
@AlignTherapyUtah6 жыл бұрын
Good question. I would correct the imbalance and then do symmetrical exercises.
@Darkious6 жыл бұрын
I’m thinking of doing unilateral exercises to correct my muscle imbalances. If the concave side is weaker, I’m wondering why you wouldn’t recommend strengthening that side more? Thanks in advance.
@AlignTherapyUtah6 жыл бұрын
@@Darkious The cancave side is not weaker. They are both weak because of the mechanical imbalance. The concave side because of a short weakness and the convex because of a stretch weakness. If you strengthen the concave side without balancing the curve, it will just pull you more concave.

@claudiusmoi1084 жыл бұрын
@@leonghchan Yes, can reduce the curve. Do you know why you have the curved spine in the first place? Mine is due to wrong exercise, my right arm use more strength to push barbell than my left. The spine has a rotary curve. It can be cured by special back exercise, make muscles back to symmetrical, the spine too.
