Sir, I am in 3rd year and thinking of only appearing for xe because i started my prep from august only and i think I could just complete the subjects related to xe in a good manner. is my approach wrong?

No, it will be good way..even if you start preparing for mechanical u will be completing less syllabus compared to xe by the end of your 3rd year. but preparing for mech in 3rd year seems to heavy syllabus and less time..u will be clumsy. so start for xe and continue for mech in 4th year....remember one thing maths and apti are the power source for confidence..try to bring them to your finger tips for gate level.

You should solve PYQs parallely. That gives you an estimate of what types of questions are relevant/asked from that topic.
