People have always said that ammos below 20 pen do not fragment despite whatever chance they have on the wiki, but since the ballistic changes with the introduction of damage/pen drop off, do ammos that could previously fragment no longer do so if they are fall below 20 pen due to the drop off? Example: FTX slugs have exactly 20 pen and a fragment chance of 10%, but do the changes made make it so it could never fragment due to dropping below 20 as soon as it leaves the barrel?
@slerpn2 жыл бұрын
@@Kuubudaraa this tbh. I wonder if the fragmentation has changed at all this patch.
@DanExert2 жыл бұрын
@@Kuubudaraa this is a great question. I would *guess* that you’re right, and rounds which have less than 20 pen at the point of impact will not fragment. However, this needs to be tested and thankfully we have Co-Op with friends coming soon which will make tests like this much easier to do!

I considered covering it but it is a tough one, and would probably deserve its own video due to the huge variety in muzzle velocities on each platform. Generally speaking if a target is 200m+ away and you have a bolt action, you're going to want to wait until they stand still to ensure a hit as the follow up shot time is so huge and you could ruin an opportunity that may have presented itself seconds later. Perhaps I could cover it in a future video!

This is exactly the information I was hoping to find - particularly what ammo each firearm was "defaulted" to. MOA is also a very touchy topic in terms of extreme long range, 400+ m shots. For that kind of sniping I usually use the most accurate sniper in the game, DVL but the unsuppressed variant. It has a whopping .43 MOA, insanely low. That means that at a 100 yards, I have a .43 inch group. At 400yards that would be roughly a 1.72 inch group(Around 3cm). Now I have heard from sw_tower, a fellow member of the EFT science community that MOA works differently or something like that. I'll have to ask him about that and let him explain it to me even more once I have more time. Great vid Dan!

Overall good video, I would personally speed up the waiting time for the during myth busting and allowed for the blue bar/breath to be seen to make it clear to know when it is out easier. Im also quite fan of calibration of sights based on the ammo you preselected for such gun, I would also like to see that part as one of the options during presets, because well... preset makes gun to what you designed without unnecesary clicks every time, but that is just matter of preference I guess.

Great video although it does not explain how a guy on top of a lighthouse managed to land a hit on me from 1300m away on the first shot. I've tried a lot of long range sniping above 450m (longest zeroing point) and what I come up with is in offline raid you just test where your bullet lands for every single position and then aim there in online. Also you can add your shots to the list.

Hi Dan thanks for your video, i've learn a lots of things. I just have a question, at 3.50 of your video, you range is set on 50 meters and you aim pretty far. the bullet go straight to the head. Why is that ? maybe i misunderstood something Thanks a lot :)
@DanExert2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you found it useful! Good question, in that clip I'm using the M700 with M61 which has a very fast and flat trajectory out to around 200m, after which it starts to drop off on its flight path. This means you can have a bit of freedom with your zeroing as the point of impact is very similar from 50-200m or so. The human head is around 23cm from chin to top of head which gives you a fairly large target relative to the bullet's trajectory, and in Tarkov you can hit anywhere on the head to achieve a kill shot. I hope this makes sense! Please let me know if you require more info

I don’t want to be ‘that guy’ but do you find sniping to be a fair playstyle? I’m just watching from the outside, I’ve not sniped before but played 20 hours or so of tarkov, and considering the size and density of the maps I can’t think of any way that you can counter a sniper who has eyes on you. What would you do if you were on the receiving end, before and after you know a sniper is looking at you?
@DanExert2 жыл бұрын
Firstly, welcome to Tarkov! Tarkov is not a ‘fair’ game, players will do everything they can to get the upper hand on their opponent, whether that’s sniping from afar and using concealment, or pushing their enemy and overpowering them with aggression and superior aim. There is no gentlemen’s agreement; you kill your target or they kill you. In Tarkov 9 times out of 10 there’s loads of cover around you. Understanding the locations and vulnerabilities of each part of the map will help you minimise the risk of being sniped. Learning how to make yourself as small a target as possible when performing static actions eg looting, filling mags etc will help you stay alive. There are a few locations where there’s not much cover, eg Road to Customs spawn/extract on Shoreline, Lighthouse Long Road and the open areas on Reserve, but generally speaking there’s usually a decent amount of cover and limited vantage points, which makes locating snipers simpler. If you do find yourself getting engaged by a suppressed sniper, and their shots are passing close by, you will hear the crack of the round and be able to determine a rough direction. This will give you time to get to cover and plan your next move. Honestly, long range shooting is not hugely popular, as it can get quite boring for a lot of players waiting for a perfect shot, or waiting for someone to enter their kill box. You’ll usually find players being quite proactive and chasing shots they hear, or moving away from engagements depending on what they’re trying to achieve that raid. Again, don’t worry about what is ‘fair’ or ‘unfair’ - as long as it’s not against Tarkov ToS, you do what you gotta do to survive

How do you go about determining the lead you might have to give on long shots? I always feel like i never lead enough but then when i try to lead i miss completely
@DanExert2 жыл бұрын
TL;DR wait for them to stand still! It depends on the velocity of the ammo and distance to target, as well as the movement speed of the target. There are a lot of variables at play so it’s difficult to give a lesson on this, unfortunately! I would start by running the same ammo as much as possible, in the same weapon configuration, to maintain velocity and get a feel for how the round travels along its path. 7.62x51 M62 (and other tracers) can be great for watching the round travel but this will give away your position quickly! Have a look at your chosen round’s velocity and understand the distance to target; a round travelling at 800m/s will reach a target 200m away in approximately 250ms, of course the projectile slows along its trajectory which makes it exponentially more difficult the further away the target is If I am sniping with a bolt action, generally I’ll wait until the target stands still, loots, aims at something for example. My objective is to kill with the first shot, as the first shot is generally the most important, after that the target will know they’re under fire and will most likely make an attempt to either counter you or get out of your line of sight, which can result in your death or just wasted time.
