I got chatting to a guy on holiday with his Mrs in Poole and they had travelled down from Rugby on theirs. He had a really positive opinion of the machine as a two-up tourer, with the caviat that "but I wouldn't want to do prolonged miles on the motorway on it two-up". "An A road cruiser" was another term he used. I love the look of them, and at the price they are available at I reckon these are a bargain...just need a larger garage...

I got mine, new, 3wks ago so I got a LOTTA running-in to do. But, it's lovely - like a faithful, fat Labrador. Rode the 42mi home, from dealership - I hadn't ridden for 37yrs but, it's NOT heavy, it's NOT uncultured or thrown together & it had sufficient 'poke' as I nursed it home. I LOVE the foot position, too. No rev counter is a bummer & the trip doesn't have a good rep' but, I fuckin' love it. It looks cool.

Nice one ER, just goes to show that if manufacture's can get most features correct, critics can gloss over the few minor niggles so long as the location/weather/reviewer/day-of-the-week/time-of-the-month/closeness-to-payday etc are all good!😎

Very stunning down there indeed. Man this bike looks the nuts, would love to have a go on one of these. The leg position looks very natural, something that a lot of similar bikes take too far forward so that’s good to see. It definitely needs a screen, even if it’s only a small one, however like you said I suppose it’s built more for the single carriageways rather than a motorway 🤘 The bike really suits you mate, ever consider getting one? 240kg? Wow that has surprised me, it doesn’t look that heavy at all. Definitely seems to be good value for money, something that is proving harder to get nowadays. Great video mate, very well detailed, really happy with that. Hope you’re well bud 🤘

Great review thanks . I've got the 350 meteor, I did consider the 650 but find the 350 does everything I want , 1000 mile tour is no problem ( just toured Cornwall and Devon ), but obviously the 350 cruising speed is 55 ( or 60 of you regear like I have ) . I suspect for two up touring you would be better served by the 650. Amazing bikes not just for the price but really offering character no other manufactur can 👍👍 outstanding

Great review, thanks Steve. A few have "upgraded" from the Meteor 350 - according to my local dealer who has their old bikes in stock 2nd hand. But you're right regarding the thumping single vs the parallel twin - it's a completely different experience. This might be the same situation which faces the Classic 650 when it arrives. I found the rear shocks surprisingly firm too - even two up. The forward controls were a bit of a stretch for me. Hopefully, there'll be an aftermarket (or RE) kit soon to bring them to the mid position. Overall quality is exceptional for the price as you say.

The rear suspension is a point of common comment on RE bikes the 350 meteor was know to be a bit hard and harsh, which makes me wonder if they are made that way for the very bad India roads and tracks, I changed my meteor 350 for the endurance shocks, which improved the ride 20-30 %

Definitely the 350 and the 650 is aimed at their domestic market above all others. So yup the ability to take on dirt roads is important. Im on the hunt for more compliant rear shocks for my classic 350. I believe there are several makes around so i would think the same will go for the 650.

Nice review Exmouth and I think you got the pertinent points spot on ! Anybody thinking that this is just a bigger Meteor 350 needs to have a rethink. It's a completely different bike, the only similarity being that both bikes are "cruisers" in style. The character of the twin engine is completely different. The ergonomics are completely different. Maybe you can say that both bikes are friendly and easy to get comfortable with. But I actually think it would be harder for a Meteor 350 owner to fall in love with the Super Meteor than it would be for somebody who chose the Super Meteor having never ridden the Meteor before. For me it is clearly a well conceived, capable motorcycle but it really didn't have the x-factor that the 350 Meteor does. I think that probably way less Meteor 350 owners will upgrade than we perhaps all imagined when the Super Meteor was announced. I was surprised when I tried it and found practically nothing of the Meteor's DNA in it. Sidmouth rush hour chaos 😂 Quality ! Cheers Exmouth, love from la belle France, El Outro and Roby

@@exeterrider 😂 Age Concern concert ! 😂😂😂👍🏻 Yes, I should have stressed that more in my review but then I was somewhat overawed by the whole experience of actually having access to a demo bike and forgot 😝 Going from the Meteor to the Super Meteor will not be an intuitive switch. You will have to get used to a completely different feeling, mainly due to the ergos but also the character of the twin cylinder engine. To be honest, I am not hearing of too many of my Meteor owners making the switch. I was expecting half of them to make the upgrade but so far barely a handful ! Cheers Steve, Garry

You could be right on the upgrade from the 350, but to be honest I think that the cost is too much to make it worth it, given the price of the 350 meteor, you could literally buy two 350's for the price of the super meteor, so is it worth twice the price, certainly some will switch, but it's a heart over head choice 😊

Let's be right, the rear suspension is rock hard; I've ridden smoother rigids. It may well be it will start to soften up after a few miles (my Interceptor did). Would it stop me buying one, hell no, loved my test ride, and changing the shocks wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. I think you'll find the mudguards are steel. Not sure about the forward controls, I think I would prefer mids. Not sure about the mapping, it's not as smooth off the idle as the Interceptor.

Re: the rear suspension (i'm not design engineer and im probably spouting a load of rubbish) But, the rear shocker is precisely lined up with the rider's coccyx and spine thus sending the shock right up the rider's back, meanwhile the feet are forward so all the riders weight is on that tailbone....... A nice honest review of a good looking bike. Although Meteor 350 owners might enjoy the bit of extra poke and more mile munching capability, while it's style catches my eye it's power to weight ratio still seems lacking to me. Though perhaps I haven't quite reached the age or reduced stamina levels to appreciate such bikes for what they are. As an owner of both a ZZR 1400 and a Rocket 3 GT everything else is going to be tame in comparison.

good review , rear shocks on a lot of bikes are often the cheap weak link in the price build of a bike ;; am sure this can be upgraded ,, all though i like cruisers - this bike needs the pegs moved to a more mid mount placing for the uk market - which will also take away some of the rear shock jaring as the rider will have more support from the centralised placement of the leg position , if i were the importer i would pursue this mod with some urgency ;;

Seems like with some bar risers and new rear suspension the Meteors are great priced cruisers. Would you say the 350 weight also felt manageable when maneuvering? And do you think the 650 is a better touring bike as it cove4s distances so well? Good review😊

The 350 is much easier to move around for sure. I have really fallen for the 350.. The 350 also can cover the miles , the 650 just does it slightly quicker and has a bit more left for roll on power. Both good machines. Thanks Lilly, Hope you and the family are well .

The rear shocks are probably rubbish, usually are on budget bikes, but they were set on the softest preload position. A decent set of Hagons would make a big difference for not too much money.

I'm no material metal expert but the metals that Honda use for example seems stonger than the RE ones, nuts and fasteners also seem of better quality on hondas for example. Its a minor issue but relevant to me at point of the review. Thanks

A point about quality of materials, RE engines need valve checks every 3000 miles yet a Honda engine with screw and locknut adjusters is about 4 times that.
@blearyview2254
@blearyview2254 Жыл бұрын
@@mikehurley5052 More and more of the Honda engines are mixed with screw and locknut on inlet and shims on outlet (or the other way around because I cannot remember 😁). It probably worth mentioning that it is easy access to the valves on the RE while my NT1100 needs a major strip down to access the screw and shim adjustment so if you get a dealer to carry out the work the cost at the end of the day will be very similar. I suppose each manufacturer has pros and cons, regardless of perceived merits of quality, but there is no doubt RE provide terrific value for money.

@@exeterrider My early Africa Twin 1000 bolts were made of 🧀. The quality on my AT1000 was nowhere near the previous Hondas I have had. The previous year had rusty spokes as well, luckily mine had stainless after many people complained. Having said that my Transalp 750 is way better. Gonna bite the Bullet and get an RE Super Meatier 🥩😊

It's a nice bike at a good price ER to state the obvious bit weighty tho for a twin but one could say it's a solid bike not sure on this one I think for me the inter takes it but it is a close run thing Enfield surely turn out some good looking bikes and in great colours I was surprised that it seems to have a bit more go than the inter though . Good one well done 👌👍

Nice review as usual. I am so annoyed with myself that I was underwhelmed testing interceptor and Himalayan. Virtually everyone loves RE but for me they have everything right, marketing, styling, nec stand at bike show, target audience and most of all pricing their best asset. However think how many more they would attract with competitive hp figures. So RE up yr bhp and I maybe a buyer😁 Oh and twin clocks pleeeeeeze

I suspect that power would need water cooled engines so they’ll loose the traditional look plus the resilience in the north of the home market. Then they’d loose most of their usp too. The Goldie has the right power but it’s got pipes and radiator to spoil the look plus it turns it into just another middleweight like a Hornet Z650 etc. certainly it’s a difficult one to crack

I love the looks of both…but for different reasons. I see the split along “generational” lines. I’d expect the Meteor to appeal to an older more mellow crowd. Perhaps a more traditional leaning rider. While the Vulcan S I see as a younger man’s ride. Sportier. At the end of day, I expect both types to enjoy the same roads, for the same reasons. And the pub stop at the end will have them at the same table enjoying a pint. (The Vulcan riders will, of course, finish their beer first!) 🤗
