I did a 9 hour cruise on my Interceptor today with the Indian motorcycle club in the mountains of Idaho. I had no problem keeping up with those powerful bikes including some cruising speeds of 80mph. Go get an RE!

Good summation on the of the cruisers and the classic style TBW and this Super Meteor is for sure a classic style with similarities to the 50/60's Harley's and Indians as I would say they were the originals in that style . 👌👍

It is great when just going for a ride on a fine motorcycle helps one to gain perspective and reflections of how good life was. These RE bikes are easy to ride, sound good, and don't break the bank account. I rode a Super Meteor yesterday. It was a pleasant experience, for sure. As you have alluded to, the rear suspension could use some work. The one that I rode was set on the lowest click and was rough as a cob. Perhaps twisting it up a couple of notches would help, but I suspect a new set of more premium shocks would be in order. My only other gripe is the gauges. I don't like a speedo that is off to one side unless there is a tachometer to match on the other side. That "Tripper" thing is useless to me. I will not own a smart device and the speedometer already has a clock so the stupid little nav device is a waste. They could offer a Tripper delete option and put the speedo where it belongs. Guzzi does the same thing on a few of their models and I just don't like it. It's weird. I'll be keeping an eye on your future videos of this bike so I can see how you get along with it.

I sat on a Meteor 350 Friday and I found it very uncomfortable. I’ve had 3 back surgeries and the forward controls hurts my lower back. It’s unfortunate, because it’s a large segment of the US market.

She asked me to take her for a walk after I got changed out of my work suit, clever me thought I'll take her straight out, 5 minutes later I'm trying to light a cigar and sheba wouldn't wait. Down I went on a wet winter playing field........ I've been thinking about a super meteor, my interceptor is 3 years old and has 5000 miles, I think swmbo would not view a new bike favourably. Mind you I have just managed to save £2k on our new bathroom.......

i will agree and disagree on the comment you made about Indian and Harley not being adventurist in their models... i do agree that Indian have not made anything " radical ", but disagree regarding Harley, they made the v-rod which was radical for HD as it was watercooled, and now they have made an adventure bike in the shape of the Pan-American.... now my rant is over i do want to congratulate you on the purchase of the 650, it is an amazing bike,although as you are a seasoned biker i know you wont be binning the rear shocks until they have at least been worn in...thankyou for the reviews

Bingley, gotta let you know that at the 4:45 mark, you stated "not over excessoriIzing the super meteor 650". As an auto mechanic and car buff, I have to agree with you on that point. It makes a motorcycle appear UGLY! Do just enough to meet the needs and let the rest go by the wayside. I'm 59 years old and about to get my first motorcycle. I thought I knew the one I wanted to get, yet, when I spotted the video on the Internet of the super meteor 650-a GIANT wrench got thrown into the process! A classic or bullet 650 would definitely be worth a look. I wouldn't be surprised if they went down the bobber/shotgun road first though. Maybe we'll see something at EICMA?

I put a wee bit of preload on the rear and it helped. I also reduced the rear tyre pressure a little. It really suits a taller gent I barely fit on most bikes so its very comfortable.

Swinging the lamp... that's something us ex-RAF lads have been known to do on occasions! Nice to hear your enthusiasm about the Super Meteor, Dave. Such a pity that my 77-year-old hips don't like the SM as, being an old traditionalist like yourself, the styling of almost every bike on the market today - with the two exceptions you mentioned - leaves me cold. I was so looking forward to the SM's release here and it was such a disappointment to discover that just climbing aboard and sitting on the bike caused me pain. I don't need/want a big, heavy lump or a squillion horsepower, though I do need something capable of cruising comfortably on our long straight roads for extended periods at 110kph, which is our speed limit here in West Aust. On paper, the SM fitted the bill; alas...

Love my SM 650. Just wish they'd fitted a rev counter which I miss. Too many years of riding with them. Maybe Hitchcocks will make one like they have for the Classic 350.

Love my Interstellar Green, we are all different, I have always looked at small capacity cruisers, mainly with a grin as being so pretentious. I owned a VL 1500 for 20 years and this is my 3rd Enfield. I chose the interstellar green as my scoot as I already have an Adventure tourer. Purposely because I didn’t want an Americanised baby cruiser. I love the naked look of the SM 650 but as soon as there is a mid set of control option I might change the controls. Try moving the rear shocks down 2 clicks, it’s like night and day on mine, doesn’t bottom out over bumps. Great video though mate.

The bike is looking fantastic. Personally I prefer hard pannier bags after having leather bags on my last Harley. It was annoying having to keep everything wrapped in plastic bags otherwise all my stuff got soaking wet. Also soft/zipped bags are very insecure; scrotes easily get into them when leaving the bike parked.. I speak from experience. I’m waiting for RE to release the super meteor 650 touring version. I don’t want to start buying/fitting additional stuff. I fell into that trap with Harley. Not again.. I want everything already fitted as standard.

A really beautiful new machine, if i may humbly say, the colour scheme is really nice but if she were mine i would have to have a nice dark green with maybe a bit of red striping to set it off. P.s. i don't know why one would need anymore than a 650 cc as in my experience they are more than capable of going anywhere, any distance, the only restriction would be ones' own physical stamina as to how far you ride at any one time. Hi Dave, I bought a meteor 350 with a similar rear suspension problem. I realised that it wasn't the springs but the dampers. It sounds contradictory but turning up the pre load 2 - 3 notches fixed. It would be worth trying the same on your 650

I reckon that at the price, and the fact that they attract real motorcyclists, not the look at me brigade, they are likely to be kept for at least ten to fifteen years, but I know of a few local riders who have gone over to them after Japanese machines, and a few who have sorned their sports bikes and kept them as investments, while buying and riding the RE machines, and covering far more miles than on the sportsbikes because they are so much fun, and easy to ride, without the attitude problems you get with certain makes, yes you V twin riders always looking in shop windows at yourself and revving the engines !! ( that will get me lots of hate mail !!)

Strangely the rear suspension is very soft letting shocks come through when bottoming out. I'm about 100kg in riding gear and find shock position 4 for solo and 5 for 2 up is very acceptable, found out by a ride measuring active sag with a small cable tie around the shock piston rod. I don't know if there is a way of disassembling and inserting a ¼" or little more spacer under the shock spring, that would be perfect, as you say the front is very good. Edit: I have also fitted the Hitchcock's oval mirrors for about £22.

I like the panniers, they are a nice shape, they suit the bike, its sounds lovely as well, and the road holding looks good, are the back shock absorbers adjustable, or perhaps they think us brits are a bit bigger, as most Indians are fairly slim

I keep an eye on stolen bike forums, a few of the new twins have been pinched, usual suspects, from the local social housing estate are involved, not sure whether they have have chip and pin in the ignition key a decent tracking device is worth fitting for peace of mind, and also to dispute any parking fines, I can give free advice off line on this, and its not expensive either

Appleyards don’t do BSA you’ll need to go to Cobb and Jagger in Shipley. No Bingley doesn’t have a bike theft problem but it always pays to be cautious
