Removed wheel, removed inner fender, removed heat shield. Found rearmost, top bolt broken off. I took a chance and after hosing the bolt down with penetrating oil and extracting it with my vise grip, replaced the bolt with lots of anti-seize. Tightened it up and the leak is gone!

Question: I have the same vehicle also a V8. This video shows the passenger side manifold but is there a manifold on the driver side as well?

Add anti seize on all bolts when going into aluminum heads.

Several times, the car started and then DIED! The engine turned over, so it wasn't the battery. Then I stalled. But eventually it started, and I later learned that if I gassed it plenty (which I would never otherwise do), I could avoid it stalling. So that's my issue...an intermittent problem...it always starts, but then only occasionally stalls out, not driving, but before I get anywhere. Once I got back a foot before it happened. I realize part of the problem is that for those of us who just drive, the details are not easy to delineate and explain, which I'm sure is frustrating to those trying to understand.

All the nuts and bolts came out without heating with a torch? Mine ('05 Dakota Laramie Quad cab 4x4) seems to be leaking around the joint to the rest of the exhaust on the driver's side and everything looks like it's a lot more corroded than this so I think I'll need to torch everything apart. I was hoping there was a gasket at the joint that just needed replacing but I guess not.

As far as the driver side. Did you go in from the top or the bottom as well? I am getting ready to install some headers and looking for any pointers to make it go as easy as possible.

Sorry I did just the passenger side. I think it is still a good idea to go through the wheel well to get to the bolts and such, but I think the steering wheel shaft will be in the way to pull it out, so then you may have to go up and out. Best of Luck with the headers

Dra Smith Water from the outside, like a huge puddle of water or rain? No do not really think water can get in from the outside.

i guess i'm just having a bad day or something, but i got a new gasket for my 3.7, as it had an exhaust leak from having essentially no gasket. i ripped the new gasket entirely and can't get my manifold back on

silly question but I haven't been able to find any info on it... does anyone know if that flange downstream from the manifold (connection from cat/manifold) is supposed to have a gasket/doughnut on it? Mine appears 'loose' and not sure if it's because doughnut disintegrated or just need to tighten/replace bolts.... It's an 07 5.7 hemi but setup looks pretty spot on to your vehicle in terms of manifold/cat/downpipe connection...

No there is no gascket in this location it's a pressure fit and if your flange is rusted out you'll need to cut it off and weld a new one on.

Is it similar on the drivers side? My dodge Dakota manifold to pipe is loose but the bolts are rusted.and its hard to access from underneath.should i remove the front right wheel?

try hitting the face of the bolt with an impact hammer or punch and hammer after heating it up with a torch (propane might be ok but MAP/acetelyne will be best)... impact hammer might do it after soaking with lubricant (PB Blaster is amazing stuff)....

haha.. Live in Canada. 4 bolts snapped. not so easy. Salt sucks!

torch, then spray it with kroil or PB blast. Then put a punch in the center of the broken stuck and WACK with a shmedium sized hammer, and WAM BAM thank you mam. They you should be able to take a sharp chizel and by tapping at the edge of the stud it should begin slowly spinning out, at the point its sticking out enough you can put a pair of channel locks on it, or spin it by hand the rest of the way. ( for re-install remember Aluminum head = dont crank the new ones in there tight... just snug them down barely 15-20fl lbs, maybe carry the wrench in the truck and re-snug them down a tad more after the first drive )

no one ever shows the joyous removal of the broken manifold bolts. What method did you use and how long did that aspect of the project take you?

my boss actually welds a nut onto the broken bolt/stud and they eventually do come out. Otherwise they have extraction kits, drill a hole in the middle of the bolt and use an extractor to take it out, not always as easy as the tool maker says. Drilling into a steel bolt in an aluminum head can be challenging.

How many manifolds are there on the vehicle? I have been having issues with a vacuum leak (per the check engine code) and had it read by a trusting mechanic (person A). He ruled that it was the manifold. I was under the impression that the vehicle only had 1. I'm not too savvy with cars, can't you tell. lolAlso, I just had to have the transmission rebuilt, due to a different mechanic (person B) recommending a tranny flush. The truck never had one prior to the one that was done. After the flush was complete, the truck wouldn't move out of neutral. I was told by 2 mechanics (a different one and person A) that it would have to be rebuilt. Will the manifold have any ill effects to the transmission? +Douglas Lengyel there are 2 exhaust manifolds. Most every V6 and V8 engine that I know of has 2 manifolds, one for each side of the engine.

Clean truck but i wanted to make sure it is indeed a manifold leak so that led me to youtube :) Is the 03 much different than the 04? And it looks like you put a new manifold on too, why? Thanks

OMG 4 years later I'll explain. You have 1 INTAKE manifold on all cars, and 1 EXHAUST manifold for a 4 cylinder or 2 EXHAUST manifolds for a v6 and v8.

I own a 2006 dodge dakota club cab and it is popping the heads off the bolts why is this happing and iss dodge going to do anything about it at least change the grade off bolts I had one pop and the very next day the one that was above it did the same thing this should not be happing

I had 2 vehicles with a 4.7 Liter, one was bad and was was starting but very small leak, this is why I refuse to own another vehicle with a 4.7 Liter.
