In my own experience, I know that as the reel gets older- the Shimano line lay still holds better on line filling in the spool. The line is straight and very compact.
@ifishcatfish2 жыл бұрын
how could the line lay ever change? Unless u wear the entire oscillation worm or locomotive gear inside.. But thats hard.
@watchman316ly2 жыл бұрын
@@ifishcatfish if you observe carefully the Daiwa spools have a small taper on the neck of their spools. The Shimano has a straight spool. Also the Shimano has always had a tighter line lay in the oscillation. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Daiwa's- I have a Saltiga Expedition 5500, Saltiga 4500, an Exist, Certate, Ballistic, Theory, and even the new Luvias Airity. All their line lay will have that taper as the line builds in the spool. But my Stella 3000 and Vanquish 2000 have a better line lay compared to all of these- lol!!!

I own both and you're right. The Exist feels smoother at home but in practice the Stella is just... better and feels smoother. On top of that - and something seriously to factor in - Daiwa's customer service is absolute garbage and Shimano's is amazing.

I can’t over state how accurate your review is , on paper the Daiwa is superior with its bigger main gear & tighter tolerances . Plus they look great but it doesn’t translate to a better experience on the water. I have a Luvias airity which is pretty much a exist minus a few inconsequential difference and I have to say… I’m a bit disappointed, I’m thinking of repurposing it to saltwater inshore use. I should of bought a vanquish 😭.back to shimano for me.

I prefer my two 1000 Stella's on my two Loomis IMX rods. Diawa don't last as long as Shimano's over time, that's a proven fact. I have both and not loyal to either company. I bought two Stella's for bragging rights. Most people can get a Stradic 1000 HG upgrade to all bearings and be just as happy which I also have and done love them equally.
@ifishcatfish2 жыл бұрын
bearings upgrades have the biggest bias in the world. People love them because they did the upgrade and they want them to be better. But if i give you two of my vanfords, one with bearings instead of bushings, and ask you to tell the difference? Usually the stock reel actually feels smoother. Disassembly always adds some free play and noise
@Sweetaccord2 жыл бұрын
@@ifishcatfish I agree with you. But after time you can tell the difference and under load you can tell a difference between a bearing and a bushing. Bushings wear out faster being brass or plastic. What I do is a step further. I shim everything on the reel. When I'm done, not only does it feel tight and smooth, but there is absolutely no play anywhere in the handle, or the rotor or the bail. That you can feel the difference and yes I can tell the difference.

If you want more even line spooling on the Daiwa, just choose a higher gear ratio. Spool flange on the Daiwa provides longer casts also.
@ifishcatfish2 жыл бұрын
I haven't thought of that, but i don't use high gear ratio reels any more. I guess if you reel 100 M of line on the spool with higher gear ratio you will hit the end of the spool fewer times.. As for spool, i see some intention in the design to improve casting, but Daiwas casting is not as good as Shimano in my experience.
@budosauce2 жыл бұрын
Cant go wrong with either reel but exist has the egde on smoothness. The price point puts these reels neck to neck.
@johnbetbabanta37242 жыл бұрын
To most of us, the Stella is like the dream reel. Maybe not in terms of specs, but when you look at the design and its price, its seems like something unattainable. I wonder how Shimano will follow it up in the next generation. Daiwa is on top of the game and always releasing new reels, so I’m not surprised the exist is more refined as you said.

@@ifishcatfish yeah I could afford one too, but I just refuse to buy anything more expensive than the tatula line up for now. My kage which is basically a tatula is the most expensive daiwa reel I own, mostly because everything above is just bells and whistles. As you said, in a completely quiet room, you can kinda hear the difference, but on the water its a different story. I’m not saying I’ll settle for a honda, but why go out and buy a Lamborghini when a lexus will get you just as far and is more practical for most people.

hi! I have the stella FJ 5000XG and I don't know if is a "problem" of my reel but when you turn the reel quick and stop Instantaneously you can hear a sort of "clack" sound like two metal in contact. Spot on vid Victor and on the 2min mark I knew you where going to say Daiwa is the smoother reel between the two. The tractor grease btw is what makes the reel quiet and smooth since I experienced this first hand when I removed the factory grease on my Certate LT. Thats the trade off to that silent buttery smoothness since the grease is thicker and as for what you said about not being able to justify the price tag on the Stella. I absolutely agree also since there are other Shimano reels that are cheaper that can perform as well as the Stella.
@ifishcatfish2 жыл бұрын
Even shimano put mini tractor grease. I removed the grease from all of my vanfords, and resistance is gone, but so is the quietness. They full of all kinds of noises now. I think daiwa is afraid to have their high end reels have noises like that and packs them full of tractor grease
