Love the lightalarms, emergi lite units that you have, but can you do a video of the older exit units with the faceplates that have the classic arrows. You know the exit faceplates that have the tiny vertical rectangle holes you see on each side of the word "EXIT" , and the EXIT lettering on these faceplates is spaced wider than on newer units starting from the mid 90s which faceplates featured narrower EXIT lettering, and the chevron arrows!
@ExitSign2503 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have a few future plans to make episodes with vintage signs like you are describing.
@garyroden4513 жыл бұрын
@@ExitSign250 Well the most common older exit signs that I come across these days are white metal cooper/Sure-Lites exit units, and I think there are three different versions of this unit. The oldest version of this sign on battery backup units has the test switch and charge LED on the front of the unit, with cursive Sure Lites Engineered Lighting Systems printed on the front, and the combo version of this sign usually has the heads mounted on the sides of the sign and are more rounded in the back. The second version I think is a little newer, and has the sure lites logo on the side of the unit in Caps with a black Highlight, and test switch, and LED on the right side. Third version is pretty much the same as the second version, but has the faceplate with narrow EXIT lettering and chevron arrows!
@garyroden4513 жыл бұрын
I also forgot to mention the Second versions of these Sure Lites combos have the Emergency light heads mounted on the front of the unit, and are more pointed in the back, and I also think they look more yellowed in the back also! The same for the third version!

Unfortunately, a lot of older signs that I have come across have been swapped out for generaic white plastic signs, and I do not come across too many older exit signs, but I am very interested in the older Emergi Lite, Lightalarms, and Dynaray units , because these seem to be more rare to come across! There is one particular older sign by Lightalarms, but I thnk this sign is also branded by Dynaray that is extremely rare to come across! It is a white plastic unit, but it is stylized as an older metal unit, has the faceplate with the classic wide EXIT lettering with the vertical rectangular marks on each side of the word EXIT for the arrows, the faceplate is also silver and metal in the older versions of this sign, and plastic and the same color as the housing in the newer version of this sign with still the classic wide EXIT lettering, and rectangle arrow marks on each side of the word! But most of these signs that I come across are black, and are the older version! I want to see the white versions of these signs, because they glow orange rings out the sides and back when lit!
@garyroden4513 жыл бұрын
I also think these older Lightalarms signs are called the UX series, and I also think Emergi Lite makes these same signs called X10 series but I only saw these in metal housing and usually white, and they have a newer.chevron faceplate version of these metal units! I don't know if any of the older Emergi Lite X10 units were manufactured as plastic housing signs! But I think some UX lightalarms series signs were also metal housing!

There are some of those emergilite units at my Costco
@ExitSign2503 жыл бұрын
Costco has a contract with Emergi-Lite. For the longest time they used the Escort signs, emergency lights, and combos. More recently they have started to use Emergi-Lite’s fully LED models.

ExitSign250, how long did the Escort combo last for before it got dim enough to the point where the lettering was no longer bright?
@ExitSign2502 жыл бұрын
That is pretty much at any point it is in emergency mode or on AC power.
@WilmingtonOHProductions Жыл бұрын
Honestly now its not too hard to replace the LEDs with say modern day ones and you could put all in but with how bright today's are you can probably put half of them in and more the less it would still be bright

Wait I thought Emergi Lite, and Lightalarms were owned by Thomas and Betts, and not Cauffel!
@ExitSign2503 жыл бұрын
As mentioned in the video, Kaufel was the previous owner of Emergi-Lite and LightAlarms. (As well as Dynaray) It wasn’t until 1998 when Thomas and Betts purchased Kaufel and thus were the new owners of Emergi-Lite and LightAlarms.
@garyroden4513 жыл бұрын
@@ExitSign250 So Kaufel was the company when the older units of lightalarms, and Emergi lite were manufactured in the 80s and early 90s when they had the wide exit lettering with the vertical rectangle marks on each side of the word! Right?
@ExitSign2503 жыл бұрын
Yep. Not sure when Kaufel first purchased the two, but Emergi-Lite and LightAlarms have been together for a very long time.
@garyroden4513 жыл бұрын
Just a few more questions. So Dynaray was the very first company to manufacture the exit/emergency units as part of the Kaufel/Thomas and Betts line? And what about the brand Lumacell. Was Lumacell part of Kaufel back in the day? Did Dynaray become Lumacell at some point like when Kaufel became Thomas and Betts? Or was Lumacell just a new brand that formed when Kaufel and Thomas and Betts merged? But I also heard that Lumacell was a branding for that Kaufel/Thomas and Betts line of products that were manufactured in Canada!
@garyroden4513 жыл бұрын
I should also mention about the older pre mid 90s era Emergi Lite classic faceplates! There was a different variation of the classic faceplate used on these older Emergi Lite units usually these units were white, and the EXIT lettering on the faceplates was slighty narrower, but the arrows on the faceplate were just the triangle part of the arrow, no bottom of the arrow, but still had the vertical rectangular marks on each side of the word, but less common is the classic Emergi Lite faceplates that have the arrow bottoms integrated more similar to the more common classic Sure Lites Exit Units, Or Less common it's sibling older Lightalarms Units these are usually black units, but if they are colored white the faceplate is usually silver, or yellow plastic! I should also mention I think there are older pre mid 90s Emergi Lite units with plastic housing, but I think their only available in black, but the older Metal housing Emergi Units were both available in black and white!
@josiah19982 жыл бұрын
Since you said that Costco has a contract with Emergi-Lite, does that mean that every Costco store you would go in would have an Escort combo installed?
