So promise was actually composed and produced by Lay and chanyeol wrote his rap lyrics and Chen helped too with the lyrics for the Korean version, they made this song gift for ExoLs their fans as an apology song for other members leaving, since they felt that they broke their promise of their slogan. Exo We Are One.. Such a healing and touching song from them to us which we held dear and a similar song to this is Chanyeols song, Hands, which if you pay attention to the lyrics it talks about how much he stayed strong after all the struggles and problems of members leaving thanks to the rest of the remaining members and their 8 hands keeping him going along with the fans who stayed in the Fandom giving him strength through such a dark time in their life and career... "What if..." is one of my favorite songs.. OF ALL TIME... the attachment and love that I have for that song is immeasurable. I'm so glad yall loved it. The first several albums EXO is split into 2 subunits EXO-K (Korea) and EXO-M (Mandarin-China) depending on which version of each album u choose determines which members u get there are songs (like title tracks) with all members but it just depends EXO has 3 main vocalist (Baekhyun, Chen and D.O) Baekhyun and D.O were in EXO-K and Chen was part of EXO-M but that’s why this version is mostly Baekhyun and D.O. cause it’s the Korean version so with album listens it can be a little confusing if u are used to current day EXO with everyone together- just FYI

I wonder why no one told Dame that Chen was with EXO M and didn’t sing all the songs on the album. The album was one of my first Koop albums. DO is and will always be my EXO bias. Hurt, What if and Call me baby are my favs. My answer is next.

The reason why Bbh and kyungsoo was doing most adlibs is because these are exo-k versions. in the exo-m version or Mandarin version the main vocalists we're chen, luhan and Lay. So you'd here only them sing there. these albums were released when sm was still promoting exo as a two unit crew. They'd release 2 albums every comeback with Korean and Chinese version. Then they'd have big comebacks like wolf or growl combining both groups. That's where the whole slogan, 'we are one' came about. It's literally NCTs blue print. they're promoting the same way.

So true Ace, "My Answer" is my favorite song, I tell everyone that this IS the song that needs to be played at every wedding....I have preached this for the past couple years....I cried when I first heard it...then I saw the live version from the Exoluxion Tour in Seoul dvd...omg guys.....I cried again, it is so beautiful, live vocals were perfect..Exo can really move me to tears, no other group can do that for me.

so, since eXO is originally w/ 12 membrs dvded into 2 sub grps - exo-k & exo-m..exo-k producing songs in korean while exo-m in chinese..aftr kirs & luhan alrdy left d grp n 2014..exo's left w/ 10 membrs to comeback in 2015 w/ Call me baby together w/ Exodus album..still having exo-k in d korean ver of d songs & remaining exo-m in d chinese ver but w/ d.o w/ them mostoy & baekhyun in 1 song, I believe..also, d title track Call em baby lyk in Wolf, Growl & Overdose has all membrs taking part n d mv in both ver..it's jst that exo-k has more parts n d korean ver..same goes to exo-m n d chinese ver..They came back w/ Love me right as 9 membrs..promotong as one exo later in d same yr..aftr Tao left d grp..they were n d middle of their exoluxion ocncert tour back then..that's y we had Promise is a song as a result of evrything that had hapoened..a beautiful but also sad gift ffm them.. That's y in Promise, Tender Love & Love me right we have all 9 membrs n both korean & chinese ver..that's y we only had chen, xiumin & lay in jst 3 songs n what u listened to..coz u jst reacted to d korean/ exo-k ver of d album..Promise is originally written by Lay in chinese..Chen & Chanyeol wrote d korean ver of it (d 1 used n d prforance u saw).. Lay takes some of d rapping parts n d chinese ver...Promise is my top fave song of exo..coz of d melody, arrangement, instrumental, vocals, line distribution & lyrics...evrything..haha.. Call me baby, what if, exodus & my answer is on my top 20.. But I kuv d album so much..much more aftr seeimg all d live..esp in concert..haha.. Btw, d 3 mains chen, d.o & baekhyun aside frm having mist line in d songs..they have indvdually more of a positikn in d songs..lyk chen alwys have d highligjt high notes mostpy n d bridge, baekhyun d mixed tone high notes & adlibs while d.o d runs & riffs adlibs & full voice high notes..in a singer perspective, d reason would b on d tone of theri vocals..lyk chen's light, high oitched & twangy, so, when he does d highlight high notes d impact is great since it sounds way higher than it is, baekhyun has a powerful loud distinct voice so fitting to d most of those type of high notes in a lot of d songs frm d album..his technique w/ his tone is perfect in those type of notes r great, d.o has a full thick but a bit soft vocals w/c is perfect for rnb..that's y he's clled d rnb/ adlibs/ runs king..he does most of d adlibs or background & in btween runs..it's so amazing how he effortlessly does it..u can agree w/ me aftr listening to all exo songs or most of d songs, atleast, knowing who's singing w/c part of course at that..but there r videos w/c clearly show line distribution of each membr in each song..there u get to know even who's singing d adlibs..coz in lyric videks..they only show it in d main lines of d aongs..if u have questions..go ahead..try my best to help.. Promise actually originally composed and written by Lay in Chinese. He tried very hard for this song to be sang by EXO. he made some managers listened to the song, but their reactions were just.. just say that they're reject the song.. but in the end, there's a manager that said the song was quite good (Lay played it in the car).. and then the company agreed to include this song in the album.. Chanyeol and Chen participated for the Korean ver.

This technically is a EXO-K album era hence only the members from the unit are singing the korean album. At this time EXO wasnt formed as an entire unit yet, but due to unforeseen circumstances they decided to merge the 2 units into 1. I still think EXODUS is still one of EXO's top albums such a classic. I just love the 90s rnb vibe influence they got in this entire album.
